Enjoyed the avata flight here at dunure castle, how epic the landscape and coastline is. Impressive when you took it overhead at the castle, i enjoyed that! another excellent flight here
You got a lot of great shots, but my favorite must have been one of your first of the day, at 03:02 before the sun came up, where you creep up on the pigeons before flying through the gap in the castle wall. Nice!
cheers John still learning this whole fpv thing. Yeah had to make a few runs past the resident birds to get them used to the drone so they would not fly into me and they did settle down a good bit once they realised the avata was not there to eat them lol.
Lol, of course you were thinking that. I was very tempted, but with the birds and people walking within the castle, safety was my concern. Plus, I was flying in stick mode, so much tricker to fly.
yeah its a weird thing, one of the things i struggled with, still do, is throwing the quad and lowering or zeroing the throttle, obviously it still has attitude control but that initial throw.... feels like i'm out of control, even though i'm not. also its funny how having hard objects, as opposed to trees, makes everything that much more difficult hehehe. i also struggle with any artistic thinking when i'm flying, usually only get good ideas when i'm home watching the footage, then i have to go back with the best shots in mind. i had a look at dunure castle a while back i think theres some nice rocks to the south would make a good low approach then swing around from the shore avoiding showing the village, although, apart from sitting on top of the castle i'm not sure where you could get the shot from hehehe
Yeah.. I was pretty bricking it yesterday as not had it up in a while and was on the sticks. a few times I felt like I had lost control but obviously hadn't it just gives you that feeling and think that's the first time I had it over water there were people walking in the castle and the resident birds so was being super causis but a enjoyable flight all the same.
@@jimthorleydronefootage oh i know that feeling hehehe, yesterday i tried to fly a playground, pure blue sky, nobody around,no wind, not too cold. took 8 packs, about 20 minutes flying, to even begin to feel like pushing a little, think i got about a minute and half decent shots, i was gonna post it calling it ''go home grandad freestyle'' hehehe. as a rule before a big adventure i fly everyday for a week, about 10 packs. i suppose though, flying scared is something you have to be able to do, i got the fear last year trying to film the waverley leaving arran, and even though i enlisted somebody to watch my back and claim my landing space, i heard a bunch of people approach where i was sitting, completely lost my nerve, flew back and landed after 20 seconds hehehe. thankfully my sspotter kept a spot clear and i got to land. then we got swamped with people. it was a little pier off the main one beside the 5 lanes of cars waiting to get on the next ferry, obviously as the waverley started to pull out everybody wanted to get out and onto the pier, so i just had to abandon it. then the waverley pulled past and all the cameras came out, i missed a truly stunning shot. you can't mess about with a 5 inch beasty, dogs and kids and distracted parents are not predictable,
@Madmacs FPV I try and keep my distance but like you say people just come walking right upto you. That's fine with a gps drone but not fpv all concentration is needed at all times
@@jimthorleydronefootage lol first two years of fpv, all i could manage to say while flyin? '' hod oan'' hehehe, i'm ok now but a full convo i will just hover in a safe spot. you dont need to learn to hover the avata but i would advise its a vital skill hehehe.
Thanks jaq love my avata and thanks for the heads up I never knew about those guys or show casing videos. Loved yours that was very well done. I will get a look at your other videos and sub 👍

Cheers, buddy. I was bricking it yesterday as I had not flown the avata in a while, and in manual mode, it's bloody tricky to keep it in the air, lol.
I was wondering if this coast is so epic or if the Avata made it that way. In any case, this was a fantastic flight, Jim!
