The voltage and current at the LED terminals won't possibly harm you as they are downsized by the circuitry. Of course, any electric work is inherently dangerous and a warning was appropriate.
@@gopalakrishnanmsYou willing to bet your life on that? First, they're wired in series.10 LEDs equals about 35V. The current is enough to kill you... takes hardly any. More to the point, we don't know why the unit failed. Maybe the voltage is too high. Lastly, as I said, they're wired in series. The foil bridge has little resistance, which means the voltage for 10 is now divided between 9 LEDs. They'll run hotter. If they cause a fire and that modification is discovered, your insurance claim will be refused. You could kill yourself or worse, someone else.
You forgot to mention that the LEDs inside the lamp is at HIGH mains voltage (depending on lamp design) since there uis no galvanic isolation and pose a SERIOUS risk should you inadvertantly touch any of the components on the PCB. Do not try this at home!
That sounds interesting! What's the purpose of pouring glue on aluminum foil? Is it to create a new super adhesive or just to test the glue's features?
@@maricarmenjordantorrent7575I'll bet they haven't caused a fire either... yet. LEDs are meant to last a very long time, so there's a good chance there's a fault in the circuitry, then you add 10% more voltage to each led. If they cause a fire and the modification is discovered, your insurance claim will be refused.
Soldering a decent sized wire in place of the dead LED would make a much better contact than gluing aluminum foil across the contacts. You might get an intermittent connection and arcing. Replacing the LED would be the best. Keep a donor bulb to fix others that fail.
Thank you Creativeholic for this handy video. Thank you to the Community Members who also provided useful information as well. Best Wishes to all of you!
Do not solely rely on the switch before starting to remove the LED. Most of the switches cut the current on one line, therefore if you connect the switched line to Neutral (you have 50% of chance) then the live line will not be interrupted and you may get a shock when you touch the burned LED (depending on the position of the LED on the LED string, especially if it's close to the high voltage side) with a conductive tool. Totally unplugging the system from the mains is the best choice.
Better way to do #2, just fill the existing hole with superglue, let it sit overnight & screw the hinge back in place. The fiberboard will absorb some of the superglue, the rest will harden in place, and you'll have a small dimple in the center where the screw goes. For hardwood doors, use superglue or wood glue and a toothpick or small diameter dowel.
"use superglue or wood glue and a toothpick or small diameter dowel" .....and go the added effort of centering the holes. That hinge isn't going to re-install properly.
On #2, you could have just stuck toothpicks in the original holes and screwed everything back in place. The screws create new threads in the toothpick as you screw it down. Much easier than what was shown here.
Some interesting ideas. I’m not sure I’d take the time to deal with an LED bulb like that though. It was still a “shaky” lightbulb. That would drive me crazy.
Please don't take this personally, but number 4 is one of the worst ideas I've seen. It is dangerous, for two reasons. First, you never work on anything while it is plugged in. You should edit the video to put a warning message about that, immediately. 4:04 Secondly, if one led can stop the rest of the leds lighting up, that means they are wired in series. This in turn means that each of the ten leds gets the right voltage ONLY when there are ten of them. Leaving only nine means each one is getting about 10% higher voltage. They'll run hotter. They could cause a fire. If they do, and the fire department finds your led bulb, and can see the modification you made, your insurance won't pay out. That's a good outcome... a bad outcome is you kill yourself... a devastating outcome is you kill others. Yep, number 4 is a very, very bad idea.

For number 2 use a few toothpicks and a bit of wood glue or even simple white glue.
I agree...toothpicks are a zillion time faster n easier than all those steps!

Saw-dust mixed with woodglue using a dowel or toothpick. Keep your saw dust and wood-chips for these repairs.
