WOW Nelson Aspen has so much energy! I love these revelatory series from Kjersti Flaa and her guests, because it is fun and juicy of course but most of all because it forces me to stop idolizing people, putting them on pedestals... it does help
Wow, that so interesting. He seemed like a Hollywood insider like Joan Rivers was. What’s funny is when he mentioned the publicists would tell him not to ask certain questions that have been asked over and over again at junkets or red carpet. It reminded me of your bad Blake Lively interview. I think she hated the term “ baby bump”. She was probably congratulated over her pregnancy many times that day. The main problem with Blake Lively and Anne Hathaway types are what I would call sorority girl type. If your an outsider they treat you like crap. Meaning you’d have to be a sorority girl to get along with them. But then it would mean you were superficial like them. Ryan Reynolds’s is basically a frat boy type.
I really enjoyed your talk with Nelson Aspen, this was great! I have to admit I have had mixed feelings about your channel and seeing things from the journalist, interviewer’s prospective. At times, totally agreeing with you about how clearly rude the celebrities were being (Blake interview) and then watching the one with Ann and thinking I don’t blame Ann for not wanting to sing her answers and thought it was a little rude of you to push it after asking her first and her being clear she wasn’t interested in doing that. I do have compassion that the celebrities are just people too at the end of the day and I can understand anyone, everyone having an off day or simply not clicking with an interviewer. what I really appreciate about you and your channel is the message you are making clear, that the bottom line is, these celebrities get paid the big bucks to preform and be professional and that these interviews are a part of that job and should be handled professionally. They should bring that same charm and professionalism to the interviewer who’s trying to get a good interview for the public to enjoy, as the celebrities do when they are in front their audience, or when accepting a award. I think it’s kinda cool that you are bringing attention to, shining a light on this need for all of us to step up our game when it comes to politeness and how we make others feel, it really makes me think twice about my own behavior when having a bad day, I don’t want to hurt anyone. Honestly before watching your channel, my thoughts about the job of a journalist was how very glamorous the job must be traveling the world, interviewing the most beautiful and talented people in the world. I definitely have a different level of respect for you guys now after learning how hard you guys work, how much prep-work goes into trying to get a great interview and realize it takes a brave, strong person to think outside the box and get a interview that stands out and realizing it’s not all glamour. It’s a very interesting prospective to learn the hard work that goes into your job and see it through a different lens. Thank you for sharing and making me think on a personal level, just how much a brief interaction can stay with another person, even if it’s just allowing someone in the grocery store to skip ahead of us because they only have a couple things to check out, our attitudes can make a day better or worse, and what we might not think much of, others can ponder on it long after we have forgotten. Our behavior great or small really matters. 😊❤

Having gotten an Aspie diagonis myself recently, having delved deeply into the subject matter as one does when on the spectrum, I immediately made this connection too. I could imagine that the best interview with de Niro would be if he got the questions beforehand and that they tend to be technical and reminiscent in nature, not related to feelings and emotional reactions like how he imagine things to be. It is not uncommon for us to have "sub-syndromes" like alexythymia and problems with interoception and introception, which means that we will be stumped by questions, totally at wits end, not knowing even how to interpret the question. Personally I have no problems with eye contact, but that is a recurring theme for people on the spectrum. You have to give kudos to the guy for being available at all. The interview setting must be really draining on his energy, and the unconventional set up is made for him to be as comfortable as is possible during the circumstances. The behaviour has nothing to do with him being disrespectful or overly self-important. It is strategy to get through the day.
I’ve seen him on awards shows, on street interviews and on many talk shows… I really don’t buy this excuse after seeing years of him in these situations.
I didn’t know that about De Niro. Kind of their own “mean girls” moment right here. My son is autistic and I was diagnosed last summer. We know we’re awkward and it takes a lot of energy to try to fit in and not stand out like a sore thumb, so I’m glad De Niro has found a way to make it work. It’s disappointing that interviewers cannot fathom a star who doesn’t love the spotlight. I wouldn’t do another interview with them, if I were De Niro. 🤷🏽♀️
IMO Tom Cruise is perpetually acting, his ability to pierce people with his eyes is a trait learned in the cult of Scientology. (They literally have stare offs) I have liked his movies but when I educated myself on Scientology and how high up he is in this extremely abusive cult I can no longer watch his movies. He gives me the creeps and his cult is very very disturbing. That's why he doesn't stick around for interviews.. he doesn't want any reporters asking him about his cult. He knows his fans won't. If a reporter wants to ask about it ... well you can kiss your career goodbye, his cult will crush you. I also don't think other actors like him because he is a control freak. He is 👎
Omg did he say Ryan Reynolds’s publicist “knows how many times I have entered him?!😂” Toooooo funny not to mention!!! Luv the tea you both spill, Luv the behind the scenes dirt! People need to Stop covering up for these celebs behavior
Why am I not at all surprised at how sweet the celebrities are when they are starting out, then become jerks as they start being successful. These people are interviewing them for the celebrities own good. What if no one asks to interview them? Let's try that!!
The nicer the person the more I question how genuine they are. I always thought Julia Robert’s was Americas Sweetheart until I learned that she was the biggest reason her stepsister unalived herself- and before anyone asks the deceased left a handwritten letter which she stated how awful Julia treated and bullied her. That blew my mind. The only genuine person that exists in Hollyweird I think is Keanu Reeves. That’s it. Which is so sad considering how many celebs are out there.
I've watched quite a few of your videos lately, but this is the one that made me subscribe to your channel - definitely a very very good one! Brilliant guest who provided a very rich content.
Fascinating interview. It seems newer celebs are more entitled and have less professional decorum. We all have to do stuff we don't like for work. The amount these folks get paid, they can suck it up and try to be professional humans. Bizarre!
Hi Kjersti. What a great show today. Nelson was a blast. Hope he comes back. It's so generous of you to have him on, and you know we are all getting his books. Who doesn't love some Hollywood gossip?!!!! I'm curious who the female singer is who has an aversion to wearing underwear during interviews. If the lady is over 50, I think I have an idea who it might be.🤔
Anyone else had a revelation about celebrities? Be it, sports, musicians, actors, models, fashion designers, politicians,I’m over the vanity, and holier then thou attitudes. I’m sure there are some lovely ones out there but NO-ONE is more important then another. Don’t tell us what to do, don’t act like ur the King/Queen of the universe. Rant over.
Wow this is SO juicy and interesting! I've never met people doing your jobs before... Years ago, I saw a friend's brother's life change one night, he had jumped onstage or something, and took pictures of Depeche Mode in concert. He became a paparazzi after that. The adrenaline coming off him was intoxicating, and his pictures were indeed incredible.
They’re certainly not the same kind of personality at all, but this reminds me of why I loved & miss Dominick Dunne so much, their lives full of interesting people & events, so many stories wonderfully told. One just knows the stories they DON’T tell are even more fascinating. The ability to notice small details add so much color. Nelson Aspen is effervescent! 🫧🫧🫧
Ahah! Good ol' Nelson. His entertainment report was always the bright spot of Aus morning television for me. I always wanted the show to hurry up and get to his segment 😂
Not being able to look in someone’s eyes when you talk to them is a social anxiety issue… people on the spectrum have that problem and also fully autistic people have it. Just because Robert De Niro is a star and a good actor doesn’t mean he doesn’t have major social anxiety. As an actress myself, I’ve worked with a few people like that over the years. I also dated someone like that. He would look me in the eyes, but if we went to a store and he asked the person behind the counter a question, he couldn’t look at the person when the person answered him so the person would look at me and answer me instead. It was pretty bizarre, but I knew he has social anxiety issues.
Honestly, I don’t know what’s with the hype of Ryan Reynolds. He has played the same character since that show ‘Two guys a girl and a pizza place’, the sarcastic trying to be funny guy who’s got a love interest. For me to consider someone an A-list actor, they need to embody every genre there is not just the comedies and the romcoms. There, I said it.
@@stolio223 Never liked him or his idiot wife. Snobs the pair of them. The great thing about them being together for however long it lasts is that they aren't inflicting themselves on anyone else.
Celebrities are simply human beings like the rest of us. Sometimes, we all just don’t feel like smiling and being nice. 🤷♂️ The important thing is to apologize, afterwards.
I am an introvert to the extreme so while I have obstacles in social situations, I have never had one encounter where I wasn’t ready to smile and be nice to someone. Unless they do or say something really nasty that was unwarranted, I can’t imagine having such an awful disposition toward someone who is at no fault, no matter what kind of day I’ve had prior. No wonder people think I’m weird 😂.
@@Gina-Montana Exactly. There is no excuse for their rudeness. IF, an interviewer upsets you, be professional about it. Don't try to belittle them or embarrass them. You know like Blake Lively did. Again though, I still think the best action is don't interview them or give them the attention.
@@Gina-Montanaright. I just retired. I started working at 14. I showed up at work ready to be polite to and thoughtful with everyone I encountered, even when I went through very difficult times.
@@GwenMotoGirl I was thinking the same thing. I recently retired after over 40 years in customer service related jobs in banking and property management. WOW Nelson Aspen has so much energy! I love these revelatory series from Kjersti Flaa and her guests, because it is fun and juicy of course but most of all because it forces me to stop idolizing people, putting them on pedestals... it does help
So happy to hear that!! Thank you
What a fun conversation! Thank you!

Amazing guest! Candid insights on the dynamics of interviewing celebrities.
I am definitely checking his books out!
So happy you enjoyed it
Wow, that so interesting.
I really appreciate you taking the time to write this thoughtful comment. It means so much to me! Thank you!!

15:45 Robert De Niro is on the spectrum, and has a child who is non verbal autistic.
That makes sense actually
@@Flaawsometalk I appreciate your constant open-mindedness. It’s such a valuable trait for any human being to have…even more so, a journalist!
(They literally have stare offs)
I have liked his movies but when I educated myself on Scientology and how high up he is in this extremely abusive cult I can no longer watch his movies. He is 👎
yep
If you work on the film set, you are forbidden to talk to him or look in his eyes.
Omg did he say Ryan Reynolds’s publicist “knows how many times I have entered him?!😂”
Toooooo funny not to mention!!!
Luv the tea you both spill, Luv the behind the scenes dirt! People need to Stop covering up for these celebs behavior

Always liked Keanu Reeves. He seems like just a genuine normal guy. He doesn't have time for all the Hollywood rubbish.

Fascinating interview. It seems newer celebs are more entitled and have less professional decorum. We all have to do stuff we don't like for work. The amount these folks get paid, they can suck it up and try to be professional humans. Bizarre!
What a great interaction. I loved the video! Cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷
Hi Kjersti. What a great show today. Nelson was a blast. Hope he comes back. It's so generous of you to have him on, and you know we are all getting his books. Who doesn't love some Hollywood gossip?!!!! I'm curious who the female singer is who has an aversion to wearing underwear during interviews.
What a fascinating man. Great video

I always wanted the show to hurry up and get to his segment 😂
aww
Yeah, I think you are right
This was so interesting, would love a part two 😊!
Hugh Jackman was probably the best to interview because he's an Aussie, us Aussies don't take ourselves too seriously.
True
Well an australian's ideal ontervoewer is a toad
Well at least we know he didn't take his marriage too seriously either
@@heather6668 so he should stay in a marriage even if he is unhappy?

It would be amazing to see you on the red carpets on the upcoming awards season - any chance that will happen?
Lovely interview… by two pros!
Ryan Reynolds, my opinion, kind of comes off as a snob...or that he thinks he is all that.
He has anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem issues.
Ryan Gosling is such a far better actor and it's not even close, he also seems a lot more genuine
Everyone puts Ryan and Blake on a pedestal it's not healthy.

What a beautiful title ❤
One of my dad's favorite expressions. I hope you'll check out the books!
@@Gina-Montana
Exactly.
I had two sudden deaths in my family and still had to greet customers with a courteous smile. It was part of the job. The boss (the bank president) said this applied even if we didn’t like the person because when we were at work we represented the bank, not ourselves. Good advice in all work related situations.
@@GwenMotoGirl congratulations on your well-deserved retirement! 🎉
So interesting and insightful!
Kjersti, you and Nelson are just so nice. If I were a celebrity, I would be relieved to talk to the two of you, because I know you would be nice and fun and it would be easy and breezy. The whole not looking at the journalist who is interviewing you is totally bizarre and insulting and uncomfortable. I'm totally getting Nelson's "The Hollywood Years" book!
That’s fantastic!! Thank you
