Great review, very useful. Was planning to get this at some point, but your review has resulted in me ordering it now. Looking forward to it! Thanks for the review.
Anno 1800 was just like Aquatica for me: I wasn't expecting that much from it and it just punched me in the gut how good I felt the game was. How much I enjoy playing it. It is a great game! I am curious now to try Le Havre, the way you compared it to Anno.
I really enjoy this game. The setup is a bit of a beast so I have only really been playing it on TTS, also because it is a fairly dry euro so my wife isn't really into it. It holds my attention better than Brass for some reason though.
I actually find the setup really easy if you stack the tiles in the order of the board. First setup was a real pain but every game since has been a breeze.
Noooooo! I’m been resisting the urge to buy this but listening to you struggle with finding something you didn’t like… I’m sold! Thanks for a great review!
there is an official Solo add on already, i don't know if it is only awailible in german language right know but it will come in english for sure soon if not already is. cheers
Thematically establishing production chains that covert raw materials into ever increasingly complex products to meet demands of your workers/citizens seems very similar. Successfully completing some of the end game scoring cards seems analogous to completing scenario objectives in the video game. So seems to be representative of the overall feel and concepts of the video game without incorporating mechanisms that would be too fiddly to be fun in the board game.
Starting to use those half point gradients in your 5 point scale more often. How long until you start using quarter point gradients? "It's a really strong game, but for the reasons listed, I'm rating this one a 4.2783. Clearly better than the previous title which came in at 4.2357." jk, love your stuff.
A fair question :) But yes, the .5's gave me a lot of room on some games to be more specific....I make no guarantees to the future, but I really don't want to go down further than that. My goal is I should never have to remember a rating....it should be instinctive. And I doubt I'll instinctively know if it was a 4.2357 vs a 4.2358 If the answer changes every time you ask, it's not a rating so much as a whim.
This one's been calling my name a lot. Really enjoyed the video game. Your review just made me want it more. Only reason I resisted so far is that there is no solo. My game group already as a lot of games and I got addicted to kickstarter so lot more coming in ;). Also, we don't meet that often so it would probably not get played a lot. Saw that there is an official solo mode, need to look into it. Maybe soon ... ;)
Brass Birmingham or Anno 1800? Brass is one of my top 3 games and I’m seeing a lot of similarities with Anno. The layout of all the tiles, the interaction with using your opponents resources. Is Anno 1800 like Brass without the area control?
Has anyone an opinion about the hero quest reprint? The mythic edition has arrived on my doorstep yesterday and I'm not sure if I should try it or sell it right away.
I'm looking to buy this soon, also for people reading comments, the solo mode in English is now up on BGG along with the campaign
Thanks!
How good is the solo mode?
@@paulhamrick3943 no idea mate I'm still yet to buy it

So solid, and you have to try Le havre!
I can really see this game climbing the BGG rank slowly but steadily towards at least the top 50 of BGG. Really enjoying it.
I'm not sure....I like it a lot and it's a really solid Wallace design but don't yet know what the mass adoption will be like.
Looking forward to this one. Martin Wallace is an excellent designer.
Yes!

It's on BBG already in English, you just download the pdf's, there's a solo campaign also
Anno 1800 great game, your reviews are very honest, keep the excellent job, god bless your family.
my goodness all the tiles laid out in front of you seems like it would be a pain in the butt to setup and tear down.😅
The firs time yes, the subsequent times, the way I stack them in bags actually makes setup a 5 minute proces.
Thank you Alex 😁 is your list updated with your new rating scale?😇
No sadly, I haven't yet reworked the board.
I have both Brass games with the clays and upgraded components... and I haven't played it yet.
Great game, one of my favourites of the last year.
Such a solid game :)
Alex did you try the solo mode?
Is playing over points nessary? Is there a way to play just to fulfill as many cards as possible instead?
Nice review!!! I'm curios about how much is connected with the videogames...
Haven't played it, bit it seems high level connected.

@@JohnClem56 Thanks sound promising, I will consider it!!! (not now I have a lot of back log)
This game looks interesting - thanks for the review!

It does not feel similar to me.

Ohhh I see some solo games behind you, you like them and keep them? (Friday, oniverse games)
Yep to both :)
@13:36 Your discussion of card luck gives me pause---I hate that in otherwise thinky euros.
Fair, it's present but I don't feel it strongly
