So happy to be the best (virtual) instructor you've ever had Zaid! You're very welcome! Hope the semester ended on a high note and I'm already working on the videos for 2nd semester! Happy studying!

Chad your videos are literally saving me right now. I just have a quick question regarding the formation of new C-C bonds. I understand up to this point (going in chronological order of your video lessons) that the vast majority of reactions we have learned do not form new C-C bonds. However I was just wondering about an Sn2 reaction involving the nucleophile CN- Even though CN- is a distinct functional group, would you be technically forming a new C-C bond when it does a Sn2? Thanks so much.

Hello Andrew! You're exactly right! Doing SN2 with cyanide is the only other C-C bond you've learned before learning about acetylide ions in the alkyne chapter. It can only be used to add a single carbon so it's not nearly as useful as the acetylide ion where you have the option to add the number of carbon atoms you'd like. At this point in the semester I often tell students that they haven't learned any other MAJOR way to make a C-C bond, and I state it this way specifically to account for the SN2 reaction with cyanide. Nice spot! Happy Studying!

You are terrific, this is the second time I'm watching the videos , but the first time I can solve the problems easily and thankfully. Thanks millions millions and millions ❤

Hi! Thank you for this video! When we are combining our acetylide ion and our alkyl halide, where do we place the ion if our alkyl halide is a ring? For instance 1-bromo-cyclohexane

Does your master class for Ochem have all chapters available for viewing?

Hey Ryan! I'm replacing the older playlist of videos in the master course with this newer set of videos as they are produced. They generally make it into my master course a few days before they are posted here on youtube. The master course currently has been updated through chapter 9 with chapter 10 coming later today. But chapters 11 through 22 are still populated by my older playlist of videos. I have also appended the older playlists to the end of the course for students who may have been in the middle of using them. Check out this page: courses.chadsprep.com/courses/organic-chemistry-1-and-2
If you scroll down on this page there is a table of contents you can explore to see all of the videos, quizzes, final exam reviews. practice tests, etc. that are available in the course.
Hope this helps and Happy Studying!
