Good video! I've had the Mate 10 Pro about a week and love it! Im a heavy user and the battery lasts all day. It fully charges in about an hour thanks to Huawei's supercharging technology.

I couldn't decide between the Mate 10 Pro and the S9+. The deciding factor for me was the battery. I'm a heavy user and I usually have to charge my phone twice per day. The 4000 mAh battery and super charging capability on the Mate 10 Pro made my decision easier. I love he S9+, but I put Nova launcher on my Mate 10 Pro and its just awesome! Lots of cool gestures (knuckle, navigation dock, etc.) and a great camera made this my choice for 2018!
Huawei is just as fast if not faster than OP, but Huawei charges a larger battery (4000 mAh) than a OP device (3300mAh) so it does take a little longer. If its just a current charging a battery through a cable, why does an iPhone take so much longer to charge?

Yes I have the Huawei Mate 9 and for some reason they send the Mate phones with the camera set at a VERY HIGH saturation level. It's an easy fix. Swipe right on the camera. Scroll all the way down. Click on "Image Adjustment" then you can fix how it will take photos. (My settings that I like mine at are Saturation -1, Contrast +1, Brightness +1)

Exactly, the differences are so slight that it honestly doesn't justify the price increase. Same processor, same battery, same everything. Sure, the back looks strikingly good, but how often do people look at the back of their phones anyways? Plus, you definitely need a case for a fragile, glass back like the P20's. Very slight differences in the cameras but honestly triple cameras are more of a gimmick than an actual feature. Also, the additional AI functionalities of the P20 will also be passed down to the Mate 10 in a software update. I don't see $150 worth of features here!

Agreed, and to me even more so, I just consider the camera one aspect. People have different needs, I don't take a lot of photo's with my phone. As far as getting another phone right now, I would like to see what the new One Plus 6 is going to be like, the new Nokia's 9 or X and if willing to spend more the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium.

For all intents and purposes the processor performing the majority of CPU tasks is the same. These phones even benchmark within 20 points of one another.
The rear sensor on the Mate 10 Pro is EVERYTHING. It makes all the features on the P20 moot. If they put that on the back again on the next version, it would be great!
And yet I bought it because it's at the front!

Apparently the p20+ has an extra color sensor which may explain the slight tint on the mate 10 pro.

Me. I compared the mate 10 pro and p20 pro selfie cam. Mate 10 pro had better selfie shots to be honest. But i think the front for p20 had a little advantage.

Still using my P9 lite, has a headphonejack, NFC, FM radio, fingerprint on the back, good camera..very snappy phone, fast webrosing, all day youtubing and still battery leftovers on the end of the day.. thats all i need in a phone.

Awesome just the vid I was looking for. Recently got hold of a P20 Pro and then found out about the Mate and well.......doubts started creeping in. To hell with it, glad I stuck with the Pro 20 and didn’t return it under the 14 day cooling off period.
I love my Mate 10 Pro...great price..and the screen doesn't have that slightly yellowy hue that Galaxy S9 / Note 9 have..very bright. The battery life is, as said on many reviews...amazing... and that is a deal breaker for me.. Oh.. and the monochrome camera is great...if like me, you are a bit old school.. hope this helps =)

Nice review, on your imported P20, do they support AT&T and T-Mobile(US) LTE bands? And on either, can you disable, delete all or most of the bloatware?
Yep support LTE on both. I've used T-Mobile and AT&T sims so far. Even get VOLTE on T-Mobile. Pretty much all of the bloat can be deleted. Of course you are stuck with a ton of stock Huawei apps you might not want, but if it bothers you then you can install a third party launcher and hide those.
Jeff Springer I have the mate 10 pro and I get better lte connectivity than any other smarphone I have ever owned I never used to hit 200mbits . average would be 100+ or less not anymore this thing destroyed the note 8 I had.

I guess you demonstrated the reason without mentioning it.
If the Mate 10 Pro didn't have a chin, I agree the notch would be silly, but as things are, the notch gives you more screen real estate while there is no difference to the chin, and *even more* by disabling the on screen buttons, so it does exactly what it's supposed to.
I have a Mate 10 Pro and am waiting for my preordered twilight P20 Pro, since I am very keen on the camera and prefer navigating without on screen buttons. I switched from an iPhone, so the Android buttons always bugged me.
Two things struck me. The addition of a slightly bigger lower chin allows for no on screen navigation keys, this outweighs the slight size increase. Of course the majority of people actually do prefer a front fingerprint sensor, though naturally this is subjective. Also why do you guys never just set the screens not to go off? All phone reviewers are constantly tapping and clawing annoyingly at the screens to keep them on. It’s so simple.
Mainly because then I forget to go back and change my display settings to time out and drain my battery the next day. RUclips isn't my job and I'm a busy guy so tapping on the screen is a better option for me. Also, you can use in screen navigation keys on the P20 Pro I just elected to use home button based gestures. It can be switched.
I find it's better to have the finger print sensor on the front so you don't have to pick the phone up to unlock it.
You can face unlock too though no?

@Jeff Springer have you tested put the MHL or usb c to hdmi ability on the M20P ? It works excellent on the M10P and since I live in an are where the fastest wifi available to me is 5mps i generally use the hdmi adapter to screen share Netflix or or Hulu to my TVs
I have a 10 Mate Pro which unfortunately was dropped and cracked the back and now the mic won't work. I have dropped it about 20 times withh their case on so it's not easily cracked. I love it. The major con I can think about is the video stabilizer, it's no good. Otherwise all good!
You left out the IR blaster did they remove it from the p20 pro I have the mate 10 pro and was one of the reason I brought it was for the IR blaster for my RV where everything is controlled IR and not Bluetooth...
The nav button / finger scanner on the bezel is good, but the p20 takes the aspect ratio to an even crazier extreme than 18:9 (18.7:9). This is really going in the wrong direction. The extra real estate (to the extent there is any) hardly adds anything useful, just a bigger notification bar and bigger black bars. Regular mate 10 is still my favorite; tiny bezels without all those compromises.

Great comparison video Jeff. I do prefer EMUI 8.1 over 8.0. I was going to pick up the Mate 10 Pro at Best Buy but the price is back up to $799 so maybe not. Bummer.

I saw the Mate 10 Pro's price on Amazon for $650.00 which seemed to me like a good deal. Also Mate 10 Pro is sold and shipped by Amazon, as well as having a warranty. Which is important. Buying from a reliable vendor is important.
Got one yesterday with a price match from Best Buy for $650.00. Love this phone. Now all I have to do is win a pair of Aptx headphones and I will be set as this phone supports it.
Here in Portugal the Mate 10 pro price drop from 880€ to 615€ and was the best news for me because i bought this amazing phone
The mate 10 Pro will get emu 8.1 and android 8.1 so the only difference will be the the notch and the triple camera which really does that justify an extra $200 in the US market... Is Australia the mate 10 Pro is still $749 and the p20 pro is $1399 so too us $651 for a notch a triple camera is certainty not worth it.

P20 pro twilight is the best looking glass back on any smartphone to date. That alone makes it turn heads out in public.

I thought at the beginning that Huawei's choice was a strange one putting the fingerprint sensor on the front but they did it on purpose for the user to try the new gesture-based navigation via the fingerprint sensor as android is still not made for gesture control.

I reckon you should take the p30, the performance is a fair bit better, and it will also get OS upgrades longer than the mate 10 pro, I believe support for the mate 10 pro only goes up to Android Q(10), then it's only security patches from there on, and you'll also have a better camera

just love the p20 pro way more only becouse that the finger print is on the front. i simply can unlock is when the phone is on the table to check messages without taking it in the hand. also i like where the camera is placed more it happend a lot that my finger is on the camera when the camera is in the middle.
you miss one thing Mate 10 has desktop mode when plug in using hdmi

I’ve just purchased x2 mate 10 pros for just over £700+ they were £600.99 each that is a deal at £363 each. loving the huawei brand after being an apple person for a few years .but I will not not pay £1000+ for an I phone when huawei are steamrollering the market with superb phones at much cheaper prices . I'm going to buy one of these on Friday. I like. The camera setup on the mate 10 Pro but I prefer the front on the p20 Pro. I also like the shiny back on the p20 Pro. The p20pro also has an easier camera setup by the looks of it but is it worse that extra money the fact that there is slight more screen on the mate 10 Pro is great. I'm so confused.

You missed a great chunk of info regarding the difference of the front camera. I hate how reviewers tend to put less importance on the selfie capabilities of a phone.
Isn't it possible to adjust the red saturation in mate 10 pro to elimate the tint?
Think there was a space issue on the P20 and thats why the sensor is on the front bottom and not the back.
I noticed there are two speakers on the bottom of the phone. Left side is not working but the right one is. Is the left one a display only or my phone broken? Lol

This phone comes installed with EMUI 8.0 which fades audio in/out whenever any audio is played/paused from any source. There is no setting to change this behavior which can make certain applications that play short bursts of audio useless.

A front facing sensor means more screen real estate due to no onscreen "home, back, apps" buttons. Why is it that no reviewers understand that?

For me, there is no way I'll put out the cash to "upgrade" from my Mate 10 Pro, The differences are very small, and some are more of a personal preference (fingerprint sensor etc.)

I had a Mate 10 pro and had to return it due to slow scroll in some apps. Facebook app was one of them. Read some other complains about it online. Does the P20 has the same issue? The thing is when scrolling down and up in some apps, it is sluggish and slow compared to other phones.
