I worked at a Peterbilt dealer for 11 years, we did plenty stretches and also cut some down and made sleepers into day cabs. Looks good to me! we usually put double frames rails in the rear suspension area.
I just admire you guys so much for trying everything not caring if things may not work which I’m sure they will, this Pete is going to be next level screw the haters 💯💪
I'm not gonna tell you what to do. But I wouldn't use short arc to weld that together and I definitely wouldn't weld it down hill...you should also put doubler plates down both sides of the frame...
Hummmm.....I have never seen this done by welding first. I was always told first inner frame rail bolted to old frame, and then new rail bolted to the inner frame witch helps to align and then welding the new rail to old......so you have two ways supporting the frame where it is cut.
@@larrydraper2118 I was always told by welding instructors on heat treated frames always bolt the inner first and then weld properly with a stick welder not a mig. I was cert. stick, mig, and tig, for steal, stainless, alum., flat and pipe. Not saying your wrong there is always a different way. Over heating frames can weaken them. I have seen both ways and prefer the inner bolted in first because the chance of wrapping in far less likely.
@UpInSmoke735 Sounds like you're way more qualified than I am, I was going by what I've seen and told by the guys that have stretched frames. Thanks for the explanation, makes perfect sense to me!
What are yous up to John, if there's one thing you need to know about welding, never weld vertical down, you can't the penetration you need, not good watching you vertical weld down,
You're going to run into a hell of a problem when you go to put cross members in and when you go to Bolt the fuel tanks on and when you go to bolt the sleeper mounts on and when you go to put them axles and you're going to run into some problem too that frame should be the same width inside and out because it all has to be metrical inline top to bottom side to side so that's why you take measurements of the old frame and have a new frame bent the same width and thickness just asked Tim Gentry he'll tell you

By welding outer rail first it can be welded inside and out. Then ground smooth before bolting in inner rail.
