Agree the solo was more evolved in 73(The Song Remains The Same MSG) but the whole concert(including WLL) really gave the idea how huge & versatile they were going to be.

You know which channel I think is super underrated? Metal Piano Music. The guy spends weeks composing classic metal songs into classical/relaxing piano pieces and he hardly gets any views. I love his arrangement of Holy Diver by Dio. That dude deserves millions of followers 🤘🏻

Cool story. I only got to see them once as a band in 1977. I’ve seen Plant & Page a number of times and Jimmy and Robert solo. Saw Jimmy at the Ritz (a relatively small club in NYC) in 1988 which was cool.
I was 12 when I heard the intro of BLACK DOG/ I have been playing that song ever since. I am 62. And there were 3 albums alteady released. I love the Harmonics on the intro of this song and it just builds on and on/ Nerver saw this version. Been playing this for 50 years/
@@philosopher0076 In all the live footage I've seen of them and ive probably seen all of them this was the first time I seen him like this, probably because this was during the beginning of the band and I also saw them live at MSG in 1973 and he never moved but instead made contact with Bonham most of the time....iam curious to see other footage of him moving around like that actually! In the first years of their existence he moved a bit but then he just stood on the side from almost all the videos I've seen of him
Got to watch this 2 or 3 times to to watch Plant & Page and then to watch JPJ and Bonzo. The drums here are insane. And JPJ was rocking it with him! Just a great performance. Loved watching it with you

First concert I ever saw was Led Zeppelin, 1975, in St. Louis. That was the Physical Graffiti tour, and our show was in Feb, a month or two or so before the album itself was released. Still remember hearing Kashmir (for the first time) at that show and being amazed. The show was 3-1/2 hours long and included 3 encores. The final encore happening spontaneously, with the house lights up and everyone in the process of leaving. The story I've heard is that Page got the idea of the cello bow from a fellow sessions musician, who asked him if he'd ever considered it. It has since become a signature move for him. And, yes, they were a very improvisational band. I've read that they purposely structured their songs when they wrote them with certain "jumping off points", that allowed them to smoothly transition to an extended solo session, song medley, etc., and then just as smoothly back into the original song. You can see the evidence of this in any live recording. I'm not sure you could find two live recordings of the some of their songs by them that would actually sound the same. The original studio version of this song is 6:27 and appears on their first album.
Yes, it's a cello bow, bigger cousin of the violin bow. It fetches some pretty fantastic sounds, of which Jimmy is master. Me- I love the call and response between Robert and Jimmy, that any blues lover would be proud to know. Next you might want to check out their FUNK prowess: Trampled Under Foot- Live at Earls Court 1975.
Yeah violin bows do NOT work well with guitar strings, but cello bows do. Very fun way to play guitar with some delay and reverb to make it all the more ethereal
Your reaction (which is great) reminds me so much of myself and many others I've seen over the years when they get first dose of Zeppelin. I'm jealous of anyone who saw Zep live during their first four years of existence '68 through '72. Those were their lean & mean pre drug & alcohol abuse days when Led Zeppelin were regularly turning in 3 to 4 hours of the greatest live rock performances in history. Yes, I know they were also great after '72, but those first 4 years were invariably mind boggling.
It is performances like this that caused their celebrity to just blow up. They were the biggest thing going and became that way super fast when the word got out - and without email, texts or the internet

Rush is a Canadian band that had a 40 plus year career. They changed their style through the years. Started out more hard rock, then prog Rock, then New wave then back to rock and later got heavier . Xanadu from Exit Stage Left is from their prog era. Also La Villa Strangiato official music video. They are playing live to a closed set. YYZ live in Rio Working man live in Cleveland Enjoy Cheers

I'm afraid this will be a decade that we will lose so many greats from Classic Rock. It's already begun. This performance was recorded on guitarist Jimmy Page's 26th birthday. This is a reworking of a song by the same name by Jake Holmes and yes, it's about relationship problems. Jimmy reworked that song to perform when he was with The Yardbirds, then reworked it yet again for Led Zeppelin. Jimmy wasn't the first to use a violin/cello bow on the guitar, but it has become synonymous with him. Believe it or not, the live version from MSG in 1973 is even better. It's about 10 minutes longer (28 minutes total) and while you may notice some similarities it is truly another beast altogether. Zeppelin easily had 3-hour concerts because the improvisation was off the hook. I hope you do a reaction to the MSG version of this - it is worth it. If you do, you'll get to see Jimmy's "fantasy" sequence. Each member had one due to having to fill time because they had filming problems. This entire show is the best zeppelin ever captured on film in my opinion. Side note, it was Jimmy Pages birthday (23rd?) and his mom knitted him that argyle sweater vest….be still my heart.
This is a great version. Zeppelin still in their infancy. Jimmy is a young guitar god here. Robert was 22years old Jimmy 26 Bonzo 22 JPJ 24….but ….now fast forward 3 years to Madison Square Garden live concert made into The Song Remains The Same movie….it’s 28 minutes that is a total game changer!!! You see not only as musicians how they’ve matured but how Pagey in particular can send you on a one way journey to happy town with his most EPIC guitar solo!!! Violin bows were getting shredded at MSG for sure. I believe most reactors shy away due to the length but…. It goes by so fast imho bc I’m just so transfixed on each member doin’ their thing. But that guitar 🎸 solo oh that is just other worldly!!! Even if you don’t do it on your reaction channel then I would not be a true blue Zep fan if I didn’t encourage you very strongly to watch it on your own time!!! Cheers !! I'm glad you did this version, I honestly think it's the best one out of all the live versions available. It's less flashy than the MSG one certainly, but it's not really even a performance, it's... a ritual, maybe? Something along those lines. I'm sure Jimmy Page would agree. It's also the best footage of Jimmy playing his guitar with the bow, allowing us to see the technical details of it.

Jimmy was is and will always be the greatest guitarist of all time what makes him the best is his versatility and experimenting with sounds you have never heard with the guitar, and that's why he's better than jimi hendrix imo, fire

GOATS! Robert Plant Singer, Lead Guitar Jimmy The Man Page, John " Bonzo" Bonham and on keyboards and Bass Guitar John Paul Jones!! These guy are my fav band and the best ever!! I seen Jimmy Page with the Black Crowes in 1996 and it was truly unbelievable!! Ever song is a hit! Play some Black Sabbath and you will love them!
There is allot of anger in this song……Of course, listening to studio version is always good, but really, just looking up the lyrics will be enough to understand. “Been dazed and confused for some long it’s not true….wanted a woman…..never bargained for you”. At one point he says “Soul of a woman was created below”. He’s really pissed off. This is an excellent version, but the real mind blowing one is the 1973 Madison Square Garden version…..about 27 minutes long…and since it’s from Zeppelins movie The Song Remains the Same, there is a fantasy sequence in it as well as concert footage. It is a dream-like sequence of Jimmy’s in which he is seeking for knowledge about meaning…and comes to find that the answer is to found within himself. The fantasy and Jimmy’s playing mesh so well together that it’s gobsmacking. I hope you react to it …..we would all like to see you do it.

This entire show is the best zeppelin ever captured on film in my opinion. Side note, it was Jimmy Pages birthday (23rd?) and his mom knitted him that argyle sweater vest….be still my heart.

This is a great version. Zeppelin still in their infancy. Jimmy is a young guitar god here. Robert was 22years old Jimmy 26 Bonzo 22 JPJ 24….but ….now fast forward 3 years to Madison Square Garden live concert made into The Song Remains The Same movie….it’s 28 minutes that is a total game changer!!! You see not only as musicians how they’ve matured but how Pagey in particular can send you on a one way journey to happy town with his most EPIC guitar solo!!! Violin bows were getting shredded at MSG for sure. I believe most reactors shy away due to the length but…. It goes by so fast imho bc I’m just so transfixed on each member doin’ their thing. But that guitar 🎸 solo oh that is just other worldly!!! Even if you don’t do it on your reaction channel then I would not be a true blue Zep fan if I didn’t encourage you very strongly to watch it on your own time!!! Cheers !! I would encourage him to watch the entire movie. I own it just so I could watch anytime I wanted. I believe that was before RUclips was even a thing.

@@Kashmir.820 I can imagine it was! The only option we had was The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It was fun at first but got old after a while. The only time we went was if there wasn't a party to go to, and there was usually a party! Definitely wonderful times!

I'm glad you did this version, I honestly think it's the best one out of all the live versions available. It's less flashy than the MSG one certainly, but it's not really even a performance, it's... a ritual, maybe? Something along those lines. I'm sure Jimmy Page would agree. It's also the best footage of Jimmy playing his guitar with the bow, allowing us to see the technical details of it.
Great video selection, I'm sure you noticed how high they were on stage yet they never skipped a beat bands today can't do that, they won't even have a beer before they go on stage

Jimmy's using a cello bow on the guitar. This gig was jimmies 26th birthday. They regularly did 3 hour gigs no breaks and iirc the longest was over 4 hours straight

Jimmy was is and will always be the greatest guitarist of all time what makes him the best is his versatility and experimenting with sounds you have never heard with the guitar, and that's why he's better than jimi hendrix imo, fire
@@MrWolfgang129 you have the right to your opinion, I have the right to disagree with you though my opinion is that Jimmy Page did not steal any of his work yes he is heavily influenced by Robert Johnson but Jimmy puts his own vibe that is not copying Robert Johnson but emulating and paying homage to the great blues guitarist (Robert Johnson)

There is allot of anger in this song……Of course, listening to studio version is always good, but really, just looking up the lyrics will be enough to understand. “Been dazed and confused for some long it’s not true….wanted a woman…..never bargained for you”. At one point he says “Soul of a woman was created below”. He’s really pissed off.
This is an excellent version, but the real mind blowing one is the 1973 Madison Square Garden version…..about 27 minutes long…and since it’s from Zeppelins movie The Song Remains the Same, there is a fantasy sequence in it as well as concert footage. It is a dream-like sequence of Jimmy’s in which he is seeking for knowledge about meaning…and comes to find that the answer is to found within himself. The fantasy and Jimmy’s playing mesh so well together that it’s gobsmacking. I hope you react to it …..we would all like to see you do it.
