    Right on!!! This outstanding tribute to one of the world's most widely recognized faces on television and the big screen is long overdue, and I am so very grateful to you for sharing this extraordinary information with us. I must confess I knew very little about Ms. Martin's early stage career and was pleasantly surprised to learn about her lifelong friendship with Orsen Wells.
    What upset me rather profoundly was that I had not once heard her name mentioned in any of my classes and forums during college- including one course exclusively centered around early Black Hollywood. Martin's pioneering role as a co-founder of the Negro Theatre Company and her trailblazing efforts to integrate Hollywood and increase the visibility of Black actors in the eyes of the viewers is unparalleled.
    As a Black Studies.major, it is absolutely inexcusable that I walked out with my diploma in hand thinking that Helen Martin was just that fabulous old lady with the awesome pressed hair leaning out of the window on 227.
    Thanks to you, however, I now have a renewed sense of respect and reverence and admiration for Helen Martin. Thank you for sharing her legacy with the world and helping to preserve a rightful place for her in the forefront of our collective mempry

    What else was she supposed to do? The love interest? Come on, guys...

      Jane Fonda is 83, she isn’t always playing grandmas. Neither is Lily Tomlin (81). Helen Mirren is still a sex symbol (75). Judi Dench played M in the James Bond movies until she was 81, and continues to play non-grandma characters. Olympia Dukakis (89) isn’t typecast as a grandma. Should I continue?

    • @PancakeDiaries
      @PancakeDiaries 3 года назад

      @@deshaunx776 respectfully Martin DID NOT look like Jane Fonda or the others u named, so the love interest shit would've only worked with the right writer and director to bring that form of love (it definitely exists) to the screen and it comeboff like it was supposed to. She also played memorable grandmas too much, so after awhile the studios who're always looking to max on a draw ONLY want her in films as the grandma because of the audience's interest in that role. Alfre Woodard has played love interests into her older age as well, but to her credit and none from Martin, she's always looked good for her age

      @Will Diesel I didn't say anything about having sex. I said they weren't type-cast as grandmas. But even then, look at the Golden Girls. That ran at the same time as 227. They were in their 60's and beyond having sex damn near every episode.
