I used to watch this with my Aunty every time it was on TV. Don't get programmes like this anymore. Loved The White Heather Club. I remember tuning in for New Year with the King of Hogmany, the one and only Andy Stewart. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Quite a historical document. Good , bad and indifferent all brought together by the good old BBC . The programme was watched in our house. and we all enjoyed it.

I find these little time capsules just beyond fascinating!! From the fact that the men doing the Scottish Country reels move their sporrans to the side (keeps them from flapping forward in a most 'uncomfortable' position while dancing) ...to the songs like 'Johnny Cope' and 'March of the Cameron Men' that I grew up with at the Highland Games at Grandfather Mountain.

It’s great to refresh my memory of what we all loved as kids in Glasgow. I’ve only recently realised that some of what I was taught at school was Highland stepping, not Country Dance stepping. So I get told off by the RSCDS police in England for my unusual pa de ba where I leap to the side, just as Highland Dancers do. I also got told off for swinging my legs side to side, or back and forth. “That’s not allowed!” I’m told. I’m sure that in older pre RSCDS days, setting steps varied according to local or personal wishes. At least it’s still OK in an Eightsome Reel when you are in the middle.

It's neither Scots Gaelic nor English but a kind of "39 Steps" hybrid patois, now only found on shortbread tins. Bloke on the piano's a fucking genius!

Hi all. My mum was a dancer in the white heather club, she was 22 I believe when she started there, possibly from the start? She is one of the smaller dancers her real name was Rosemary Manly (stage name Cindy Stewart).she was desperate to find one of her dancer friends Avril Fleming who I believe moved to Australia if any one knows these names get in touch, I’m the son. Thanks
