- Let's take a step back in time and review the highs and lows of Sebastian Vettel's glorious Formula 1 career... but not all of it was perfect.
To this day, Sebastian Vettel still holds a number of Formula 1 records.

The 07 crash ar Fuji Seb was penalized, but after reviewing the penalty was lifted as it turns out Hamilton was the reason for the crash due to his erratic pace behind the SC.
As always, Hamilton. He's a dirty driver but doesn't get penalized enough
I’m not crying, you’re crying. What an awesome video Blake, seriously. Loved your own insights as well, congrats!
Thanks, Fal! This one was a lot different. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
My the most favorite moment is Seb Germany 2018 pole. The quali was pure magic and seb was sintellating.
Please, dont give me ptsd by asking about the race.
2018 was Seb’s chance to strike back at Mercedes. That race in Germany had me believing he was really gonna take the dance all the way, and then such a heartbreaking end…
I always learn something from your videos, Blake. I had no idea GP was Perez’s race engineer before Verstappen. The F1 workforce, like most niche disciplines, is such a small world.
Great video as always!
Thanks, Will!
What a ride. I'm one of the lucky ones to have witnessed Seb's entire F1 career and parts of his junior career as a spectator.
Anyone who thinks today that he always won everything because of the car has probably missed his early years...
Fax
Mick won F2 and struggled as a F1 driver. Early career success doesn't prove anything.
Latifi was 2nd if i remember correctly in his early years of f2 or f3 i don't know what category it was that years...
"I was faster, I passed him, I won." Savage
Overall great video but would disagree with some of the assessment of 2018, the mistakes were a problem, but the car development going backwards and away from his style definitely didn't help, which led to the points deficit being bigger than the sum of his mistakes
V interesting point about the loyalty from him during those years, many would have thrown them (deservedly) under the bus! Maybe it was just his love for Ferrari or that's just what he's like
I think you could be right. It's been awhile and the season's nuances weren't fresh to me. But a few mistakes here and there. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you very much for the feedback 🙏
People ranked Vettel's ability down several ranks because he had lost to Daniel Ricciardo while using a completely new type of chassis/car. Yet Hamilton, many who would say is the GOAT of formula 1, got beaten easily by his new teammate in 2022, and Ricciardo got completely destroyed by Norris. One single doesn't mean everything.
It wasn't just losing to Daniel. It was also the recurring errors at Ferrari, especially 2018.
Vettel advantage over my heart locked in for years. You don't need a wind tunnel to see that
Amen, Dave!
"But here comes Sebastian Vettel" will forever be one of my absolute most cherished moments in F1 history. Literal tears in my eyes.
He was kinda like Kimi. When the car was to his liking, he was literally unbeatable. He had back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back GP wins in 2013. Who does that? Seb! Who else? No one! Not even Schumacher, Senna, Prost, Hamilton, Fangio or the likes. To be fair though MSC would've probably won 12 races in a row in 2004 if he hadn't have that DNF. Let's also give some credit to Nico Rosberg who won 7 races in a row (2015-2016)
Euhh??? 2013 tire change?
@@S2KEVIN That definitely messed up Kimi's and Fernando's title challenges to a degree
@@swampthing94 to a degree? it entirely ruined the season and looked rigged.
Certainly in the top 4-8 on an all time scale. One of the greatest frontrunner ever, 7 times top 2 in the title as well. Certainly won't forget that 1st victory for Ferrari!
Vettel was an absolute Monster in the RB. It is difficult for any driver to accept that he was the reason a race became undone, especially right after the fact. Multi 21 has many similarities to the 2022 RB Brazil "incident", but ultimately in both cases, the benefit to the other driver would not change the outcome of the championship while it highlights the very thing that got both of them and all F1 drivers in their race seat: Being extremely competitive. Despite that, Vettel was always respectful to his rivals. Alonso and him still have a very good relationship and you can clearly label him and Hamilton as friends. Alonso and Hamilton's rivalries were explosive and messy and speaking about Verstappen and Hamilton currently has no value, as it's covered everywhere.
I'm a Ferrari fan and seeing Seb in red felt weird for the first part of the 2015 season, but, it was obvious that you could see something in the team changed when he was part of it. Great drivers do not help the team only by driving fast, but by leading them to create a fast car.
As for 2018, you can argue that after Germany something changed in Seb, something he didn't shake off for at least one year, if ever. The expectation that Ferrari would be there or thereabouts every weekend looked more unlikely weekend in weekend out and with Kimi being where he usually was, it was mostly Seb, even if Mercedes had clearly outdeveloped Ferrari. I am more than happy however to have supported Seb in those years. He was one of the best drivers on the grid for the majority of the seasons he was in the sport and in later years he clearly demonstrated that he was a person that was more than good.
It's not just the public displays of defiance of what F1 or the host country says at the time, it's the little stories that get little to no media coverage, like how he always makes time for fans, or how he has helped fans find tickets to their local race when they cannot, how he responded to fan mail, how he understood that he was more than just someone who had to turn up to a race track, drive, debrief and then go home.
The fact that he was one of those drivers, that on their final race the whole F1 world, from drivers, to TPs, to staff and fans, no matter who they supported came together for a goodbye and everyone who was interviewed about it, didn't just stick to the classic "He is an amazing driver with whom we have fought/worked hard in the past and I wish him the best" but actually had a feel good story about him speaks volumes.
And Blake, as always, amazing content, keep it up!
Wholesome comment
He was a monster in the RB but after 4 consecutive champs, he got washed by a rookie in his team like ricciardo was...
@@kolour7611 Vettel was so good in 2010-13 because he mastered, faster than anyone, including Webber, the blown diffuser. It's difficult to know exactly how or why Ricciardo beat him, but when the car was where he wanted it to be, he was magical.
@@kolour7611 because of that dogshit Renault engine made in 2014
Everyone going crazy about Alonso in Aston Martin... Vettel was far further ahead of a fully fit Stroll last season.
He would have had a 2nd and a 3rd.
If Vettel had a better team at Ferrari, he would of won at least 1 championship or 2. 2017 seb drove incredible but unfortunately strategies and reliability cost him. Then 2018, strategies again and yeah seb ultimately made the mistakes but most of them was due to ferrari incompetence to make basic decisions
Yep - also there was a...let's say "substantiated rumor" going around the press in Italy, back in 2018, that the Hockenheim mistake was actually caused by the pitwall pointlessly hurrying him along and constantly coming onto the radio with unwanted updates, as they were afraid of Hamilton's comeback through the pack. Now, this might sound like "press embellishment" but consider this: historically the Italian motoring press have had people well within the 'circle' at Ferrari, or that are at least close friends with someone in the team...so while not everything coming out is 100% reliable, it's also usually not completely bullcr@p.
Alonso would have won the title in 2017 or 2018 with that car. You can't just blame everything on the team. Vettel had some abysmal races and mistakes on his own the team isnt solely to blame man
@@srxt6758 in 2018 yes he made mistakes, though majority I still think Ferrari made or initiated. 2017 though has nothing to do with seb, I struggle to understand how people blame seb for 2017
He's also the youngest double, tripple and quadruple world champion you forgot that ;D
Excellent point!
As a new Formula 1 fan, honestly these videos had been quite helpful on breaking down the behind the scenes of racing, and give clear and concise information vs. the flimsy press media videos on who's poster boy of the day...
Never expected to be hooked, but hey, its been an experience so far!
And I still have lots to learn!
Edit: I'm still trying learn more about Formula 1 and Motorsport racing over all, if anyone got any great educational videos/articles/book recommendations that I should check out, I would really appreciate it!
Give driver61 ago great insight to the sport with technical analysis
I feel bad for you. F1 today is a shadow of it's former glory.
There's a whole industry trying to hold on to what it was. This channel included.
They HAVE to promote it in order to save their channels/income.
@@nomas9893 I realized how much different F1 from before is to now, wished I began sooner... I mean I want to see technical analysis and racing commentary... not poster boys and media drama (including the "extreme" type of fans...)

And then his highs off track, such as placing life sized images of his team members on the stands during COVID homerace
Sounds to me like someone owes you a favour. A podcast appearance kind of favour.
No one owes me anything but it would be really cool...
He wasn't the best driver on the grid. Even when he was dominating. That was Alonso and Hamilton.
Really?
@BrrrakeF1 for sure. I'm a big fan of Seb. But he has never been on the ultimate level of those 2. Hardly a controversial opinion.
I feel every champion has had an arrogant phase
vettel was a real contender in 17 and 18, in this season alonso's comment about hamilton's wdcs; he undermined vettel's fights and I think it was a huge disrespect to vettel's efforts in those years
it wasn't just the car, ferrari was run by the italians not even alonso could get a championship
You left out his biggest low of missing out on you as his performance engineer
Blake, given how you were uniquely a previous performance engineer for both Checo and Max, would you consider making a video comparing the two driving style wise, and your thoughts on how it affected their balance of power the way it did along the course of the season?
Don't you dare remind me of Germany 2018... i'm still hurting in my heart from that.
Never cared much for Seb when he first started racing in F1, thought he was arrogant and dangerous on track, what i was seeing was basically a kid who did grow into a man over a few yrs in his racing career,he became likeable honest a gentleman, hope Seb has a great retirement 🇮🇪☘️
Also: youngest 2 time, 3 time and 4 time world champion. Not so corny if you think about it
Top video, thank you! Following F1 since 2019, quickly warmed to Vettel, he is so authentic, no wonder him and Kimi got along so well!
I think the issue with 2017 and 2018 car was that, even with slightest of touch the car does a 360 and that has costed them much. More than that, the car became a tractor after the summer break.
1. Stopped upgrading and start making downgrades after summer break
2. There’s no issue with the 2017 car
3. Ferrari’s constant mistakes forced Seb to go beyond what his car can do in order to keep up with the much faster Mercedes and thus making more mistakes
4. His 2016 and 2015 car are much more unstable and he still is the only one who can challenge Mercedes on merit
5. It’s not all about the car, it’s about Seb not getting enough support from his team and his teammates, whilst constantly having bad luck
I can't get over the FIA DSQing Seb at Hungary 21 over him having used too much fuel. It was ridiculous
I can. It was a clear breach. Thems the rules. This is coming from the guy who used to do fuel strategy and management
@@brrrake they don't allow teams to run lower fuel loads?
@@ElDoggo141 teams have to provide 1L sample. He couldn't. Therefore disqualified.
@@brrrake huh. Never knew that lol
Brits always hate a successful sportsman or woman who are not British. Indeed we have hated Senna, Schumacher, Alonso, Rosberg, Verstappen, etc. too. So sad.
rinnnnnnnnng digggg dinnnnnnng!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This the classic phrase seb used every time he won a race
22:15
Welp, it's 2023 now, and looking back, he did help, a lot
Edit: I mean, it wasn't solely him, you've also got all the designers, engineers and the rest of the team working on the car, but he did help
I think Seb still could do an amazing job on the grid, and we may see him back
You can rly tell his frustration with the team after 2017 and how he cracked under the enormous pressure in 2018. He kinda just tried to recover after that
I think so... I miss him already.
It's my first time here on this channel, but it's a good introduction
I grew up with Seb, his first win being the last race I watched. Even while everyone else hated him, I was always a fan. I don't honestly think the sport will ever be the same without him
I agree man. An absolute legend and fantastic person
@@brrrake I like to think of him almost as someone who grew up as I did, hard to believe its been 15 years
9:34 Do remember the Twitter reaction to this as it was the early days of F1 Twitter. It was rather interesting, Also a shame that you didn't worked with Seb
Vette never made a mistake. Most of the best drivers think like that.
blessed to meet him when I was 12y/o in Indian Grand Prix
This was extremely enjoyable and edifying to watch. Your content is amazing. The images and footage used are perfect and your commentary through the journey of the video is captivating and comprehensive. Thank you for this wonderful tribute to a wonderful champion.
That means a lot to me. Thank you so much. My editor also did an excellent job on this one. Very much teamwork

The sun... is it really that hot or bright. Is water really wet.
the car was THAT good, sometimes illegal
Awesome Vidéo, Amazing Delivery. but This Looks Deservant of a Series ?! Do Lewis Hamilton next and Lets Really make it a Series !!
I think his most impressive performance was Brazil 2012. Having his car damaged in the first lap, broken radio so he couldn't talk to the pit and still securing the WDC is arguably the most exciting season in F1 in the past couple of decades.
And his point about the team working together being the most important thing: When I applied for my first IT security job, I had no idea of firewalls, proxies or any of that stuff. In my interview, my boss said that technical knowledge is secondary, you pick that up along the way. The most important thing is that you fit into the team. And I'm totally convinced that he is right. A team working as a team is about more than technical know-how. Another example is the 2014 FIFA football world cup. The German team did not have such great names as the Brazilian team did. But they worked as a team and oh boy, did they work together well.
I disliked him because he came off like a spoiled prick. His personality was TERRIBLE when he was young...but I really liked him when he matured. For these same reasons...Verstapen has really lost me as well
Conclusion: he wasn't that good. He was overrated. If he was that good, he would have won the DC in 2018. The car has proven to be a competitor to Mercz.
I became a fan at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix and stayed a fan for the whole ride, crashes and booing and all....I'm also a Jacques Villeneuve fan, so I'm ok with villians...
My favorite driver ever, the Raging Bull, 4 time champion🔥🔥🔥🔥
Well done! I proudly drive around with a Seb #5 sticker on y car, along with one of Michael's helmet!
Make this a Series !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People loved to hate on Vettel for passing Webber. But if you were honest to yourself. Would you have enjoyed the race more had Vettel just listened to team orders and slowly puttered behind Mark?
Great content Blake! I'll be watching more of your video's. 👍
I hope he comes back to F1 with a strong team and wins at least another couple championships before retiring again 😭😭😭 i will die a very happy man if that ever happens
That flickering CRT filter is really unpleasant to look at. Enjoyed the rest of the video and glad I looked up the channel
So no, he was not. Failed spectacularly when put to a real test. Scammed Ferrari and made hamilton look good.
Im so happy I found about your channel! Im also from Texas and have the same passion on either becoming an engineer or mechanic in F1 so this is like the perfect channel for me.

seb had so much bad luck in ferrari. crashing due to others or spinning some of it was due to him too but he could had much better if not for these reasons
Yes.
I think u missed "Not bad for a number 2 driver".
Vettel being cocky was so much fun
2016 wasn’t that bad merc was just op
Seb really was a villain in the eyes of the media, a little like Max today
I'm a fan of you, and vettel I miss him already but excited for Logan Sargeant, Lewis retires Logan will beat Alex Albon and get the seat at Mercedes. Lol my F1 dreams
I'd say keep dreaming.... But we'll have to see what happens this year #
No, he wasn't.

That one sticks out in my mind as well
Hey Blake, great video! Love this format and would like to see you continue to use it. Just one small suggestion, use more music. It gets a little repetitive to hear the same beat repeat in the background of the video.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Also noted!
If those Ferrari would be just nearly close to those RBR on 2010-2013 I'm 1000% Seb wouldn't have 4 titles.
Only 2012 was a debatable season in terms of was he really the best during that season. 2010,2011,2013 he was the best driver
If Ferrari was close to Red Bull last year, or the race director applied the rulebook in Abu Dhabi in 2021, Max wouldn't have 2 titles. If Williams didn't screw up in 1991, Senna wouldn't have 3 titles. If Williams/McLaren were close to Ferrari in 2002/2003/2004, Schumacher might not have 7 titles. If Ferrari didn't screw up development in 2017/18, Hamilton wouldn't have 7 titles...you can take the "if" game anywhere. In F1, you need the best car and a team that runs like clockwork to win, end of the story. The only time a driver on a semi-uncompetitive car won the title in the last 40 years was Prost in 1986, and it was largely due to Piquet+Mansell+Williams being great on each own, but collective bellends when put together :D
Hey Blake! I really enjoyed that video, that's a different style from your others, but you really did well, and I hope we'll have more of this!! Thanks a lot
Thanks man. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Oh?
What? Is not true?
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Nope next
I could very well be mistaken but didn't Mark turn down his engine for Multi-21 (& its difficult to turn it back up once you've done this?)? Great video by the way.
Great video. I sure as hell am a Vettel doubter. In the end of the day, a less than average teammate (Webber or a way past prime Kimi), allied with a ridiculously good Red Bull made him look way better than he actually was. Never liked him, and I like him him even less for his politics shennanigans.
Edit: I remembered an 2012 or so interview with Fernando Alonso, in which he said Seb's talent would be tested when he had a midfield car in hand. I think his Ferrari and Aston Martin answers Fernando's doubts.
He had a dominant car that absolutely fitted his needs and driving style at Red Bull.
At Ferrari he just showed that he can't adapt to a car at all. - Fernando Alonso has done the exact opposite, considering he's racing in F1 for two decades now, with cars that have changed so dramatically more than just once.
Yes he was THAT good. Although his car was dominant, he raced against a very experienced/talented grid. His teammate Mark Webber was great, Alonso, Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Jenson Button, Robert Kubica, a young Rosenberg, the legend Schumacher came back, and Koboyashi who was slept on (24 LeMans Lap record).
So yes he was that good.
I’m not impressed by Verstappen as much because the grid is so weak. It’s almost like watching Fabio Quartararo win against nobody. If the grid contains too many young drivers/riders then it’s honestly not great racing.
