13 year of experience. where you grabbing the fiber for the mix? i haven't heard of this and your mixing using concrete? is it a morder/cement mix your doing with this fiber? and you mixing latex and applying on surfaces for a better contact bond on resurfaces?

I didn’t do this repair, just highlighting, a repair that failed. If I would have done this job, I would have approached it differently. Now all that crap has to be removed before fixing the crown properly. which will cost the customer more. Thanks for the view and comments.

Issues!!! Should be 2" of CONCRETE, mesh or fiber like you said, sill seal around flue and cut down and topped with sealant. Not rocket science, just correct products and methods.

This is EXACTLY why people need chimney 'chase covers.' These are not the same as a chimney 'cap.' Look 'em up.

I install chase caps all the time, however, chase caps have there own inherent problems. Solution to both is having a chimney professional inspect chimney and fireplace atleast once every three years.

Erik , I would encourage you to avoid saying “masonary “. This is not a word. It really detracts from your otherwise knowledgeable presentation of what you are observing.

A proper concrete crown will solve that issue.
