This is basically all of the game design promise of early era Yugioh coalesced into a format. It's so unbelievably fun.
I wish they would have a pre insector format
@@juliend5047 Tengu Plant is what you want
I 100% think this is one of the best formats in this game. As someone who enjoys Goat, Reaper, Edison, Tengu Plant, Baby Ruler, and HAT formats, Edison's def #1. Wish I was old enough to get cards around the time though, I was 9 when SJC Edison rolled around and there's no shot my parents would've bought any of that stuff, let alone bring me to a card shop where "weird people" hang out lolol
I'm somewhat new to yugioh so I wish someone made a video explaining what each of those formats are
@@mrhondo12345 Cimo and MBT's History of Yugioh series is a good example primer of old formats. They're up to late 2015 so it covers up to the most recent past format people play.
This 100% was the best format in the game, the meta was extremely diverse up until TeleDad took over, but then after Tele died the meta became diverse again
There was everything, Zombies, LS, stun, TeleDad, GBs, Hero’s, so many decks going around, now there’s just floow and tear…
Edison is overrated and so is Goat format.
Agreed Tengu is better
Imagine think Oppression and Dustshoot are healthy
Edison is my absolute favorite format of all time. I've been playing several retro formats over the past year (goat, edison, starstrike, prov, tengu, meadowlands, etc.), but I keep coming back to edison. My locals has had a strong edison scene for a year now, and I'm confident it will keep growing in irl events. Would love to see more edison content! Thank you so much for introducing it to many current players!
I saw you on the discord! Cool fairy deck btw
@@CFxRenaissance Thank you so much! I hope that everyone gives Fairy a try at least once in edison. It's a rly fun deck to play.
@@SunnyYGO Well i'm a try Krystiasworn
I c u king 😎
Josh vs Prostorm next???
I topped 16 Edison. Lost to Jeff Jones. I also topped nats 05 "goats," and 08 nats glad/tele-dad format. Those were some great formats.
Oh right you played Synchro Cat with Gravekeepers and Caius in the Main at Edison, didn't you? Must be pretty cool to be part of the Yu-Gi-Oh History in such a way.
@@IyoMaestro yep
Love this format! I actually attended SJC Edison. My roommate for the hotel got 8th place: Edwin Ortiz
They really need to give these formats relevant events. At a YCS if you "win" a 60-player Edison event you get a generic mat off the prize wall and 4 OTS packs. Making these events 6 rounds + top 8 for a Giant Card would be insane. (Rather than just selling all the Giant Cards to the highest bidder on Saturday morning. ;) )
They did make an awesome exclusive Light and Darkness Dragon playmat for Time Wizard which is actually selling for a lot of money (I know because I desperately need it in my life and havent found one that isnt insanely expensive)
@@JoshuaSchmidtYGO On one hand I like the American system of having 8-player pod Time Wizard tournaments, on the other hand I really like the idea of these events being bigger. Maybe they could have 1 big event per dag for a different format every day, and also have 8-player events running on demand for the other formats.
@@RyanAtlus Hey hey bro we played Round 2 in the Tengu Event in Dortmund, I was the Zombie guy. Something like top 8 would be the dream but it does take up a lot of time.
Like I was saying in Dortmund, just a fifth round would be a very big improvement
I love that Edison is just “play the game as intended by the creators and don’t desecrate their wishes for this creation!”
I’ve recently become addicted to Edison, it’s so much fun and collecting the cards has been a blast!
Why do you say this though?
Genuss! ~ awesome to see u cover some Retro YuGiOh, personally i played some Goat and Critter tournaments recently, and of course Yugi-Kaiba, the authentic caveman YGO experience.
Those WC/Tag Force (2010, 2011 and TF5) games don't lie, this IS the peak of Yugioh.
Why do you say 2010-2011 was peak Yugioh?
I really wish Konami would give a format like this more love. We need officially supported formats available on master duel.
I imagine this format is the one most people really want they come into yugioh
Love seeing you play edison. I hope we'll get to see more of it.
Edison is so great, this is basically when I started playing yugioh competitively (I was 8!) and I love going back to it occasionally just playing GB for nostalgia since it was the deck I kept playing with for years until dragon rulers came out.
For a moment, I thought Keegan misplayed at 32:00 when he activated Kuraz's effect of its summon through Mausoleum; Mausoleum is not treated as a tribute summon, so cards like Caius won't activate their "tribute summon effects". However, Kuraz doesn't specify that it needs to be tribute summoned which allows his effect to activate from inherent summoning through Mausoleum.
Was fun to watch! I'm an OG edison player here!
yeah, even summoning kuraz with the effect of call of the haunted or black garden will trigger kuraz. very cool card
I love edison. I think tengu plant format is my favorite, but edison is top 3 for sure. I would love to see more edison content from you! This was awesome!
HAT Format?
Synchro era is my fav era, and I played Flamvells for a long time. The decks back then were so cool too.
It's great to see you covering TimeWiz in terms of Edison! I hope you keep it coming!
Well done!
First time watching any of your content, but seeing QUICKDRAW DANDYWARRIOR being legal made me sub. That has to be my favorite deck in history. No two games were alike and sometimes you'd lose to yourself because it had so many combo lines.
loved the time back then, after that i had a 12 yrs break. i also ordered edison stuff recently! love the nostalgic feel :)
Whats this? Joshua making a video on my favourite Yugioh format?????? Month of Christmas indeed 😀❤️
The 🐐 playing Edison you love to see it
While I don't really have fond memories of Edison, 2010 was the year I got my first big break-through as a duelist new to the scene, and my 1st regional tops as well
Old format content is awesome :)
i played the game since the release, in 2008 i began to build my frog deck, in 2010 there was the breakthrough of the frog decks, and thats when i began to win tournaments, i have nice memories of this format, and the best thing is that rarely you had mirror matches... people were playing x-sabers, blackwings, vayu turbo herald, lightsworn, infernity, gladiator beast, frogs, frog monarchs, macro monarch... there was so much variety and you never got bored. sadly they banned my substitoad and format kinda turned into a gravekeepers vs x-sabers format right after
the idea behind old school priority, is inherit summons don't start a chain. Now when you summon a monster, the game state closes and you can only use spell speed 2 or higher effects but back then you could use any ignition effect, with priority, after summoning a monster.
Bro I started with Edison format in 2010. Was 15 in highschool, a group of older dudes who played got me into it and at my first regional I played Flamvell cat. What a small world
I hope to see both goat and edison format videos. I like them both 😁
17:25 X-Saber mentioned in Edison. You love to hear it.
I was playing yugioh then, but I was 9, so with friends at school, and in the world championship ds games. I think my deck back then could best be described as generic warrior synchro. going back and playing the ds games again with my matured sense of deck building, lightsworn is crazy fun, but my favourite deck has to be reptile control and or venominaga turbo. the reptiliannes are such cool and fun cards to play around with. it's a bit slower than the explosive combo like blackwing or quick draw dandy, but I think it's great.
Edison format in master duel.. im begging. I won my first locals around this format in late 2009 with black wings.
I played hero beat back then. Loved having ulti neos alius and gemini spark and all that. I should buy a deck of that era myself.
This is what yugioh is supposed to be...
Very good support that a lot!!!!
I hope we get a edison ycs in Europe this is my dream.
Yes!! never clicked a video so quick!!😮
Amazing video, thanks a lot for this video !
Man I really hope with a this Edison traction we will soon get a Edison db ladder if rush duels and goat can get it why can't Edison
I played in 2010 with a dark synchro tele dad like deck, so much fun back in those days!
best game i have watched in a long time
Format named after a city in my home state. Love it.
yo 7:45, that deck topped YCS rhode island a bit post edison times, i remember that being one of my favorite decks and I was destroying mermails with it
20:12
You do not have to mill with Ryko in Edison format. The way it was ruled back then was Ryko's effects were sequential, not simultaneous, so you could chose to not use the mill effect if you wanted.
I loved lightsworn during this era
this came on my tl right after playing edison
I was playing early versions of chaos dragons at the time. Was super fun
Edison format was the format alot of people in Toronto came back there was a weird ygo boom during then with alot og high schoolers and its the Era that people love synchro Era so much
Enjoying edison as well, better than current rn
Would love to see some IRL deck lists from you!!
Still think Yugioh peaked in 2014, as all the formats in that year were like Edison but less sacky. At least to me. Still great formats!
100%
Vegas and Fire-Water were less sacky than Edison, HAT was definitely more sacky than Edison due to Soul Charge. Losing to Turn 1 Soul Charge isn't fun. DUEA Format was dominated by Shaddolls and Superpoly and Soul Charge were broken sacky cards.
If i not make it to day 2... suffering from success
More Edison format content pls
i like hat more because of the more varied extra deck options
Priority can be beat with counter traps iirc which why divine wrath was as good
I played machina during this format, and it the first strong deck i built. But Quickdraw Dandy imo was by far the most fun format, and continued into 2011 formats with plant synchro.
I remember playing billy brake in 2011 (ycs Brighton) with gravekeepers and beat his plant synchro. Dude was so salty lmao
i just learnt my old machina cards is an edison deck? im hype
Really love edison, they starts to get more attention now thankfully but i wish they got even mlre later. At least to be covered by live commentary on ycs (not like that time wizard pre recorded exhibtion stuffs).
I miss real back and forth YGO like this. I feel like there were way more skill with older formats. Predicting future turns, resources management as card advantage also matters more back then. Also more cards to play around like heavy, mirror force, torrential, gorz that each requires u to change ur playstyle to play around em.
Tho GOAT is too slow for my taste, but edison is just perfect. Hope u cover alternative formats like this more often 😁
His voice is so cute with the accent here.
Would 3x pot of avarice be good in this deck? It's a bit risky with Witch and Gallis, but its conditions are really easy to meet
I enjoyed
Waiting for an Edison or goat YCS main event .........
More edison!!!!
if anyone from rome seeing this video, i'll let you know that we regularly held edison tournaments with 20 to 30 every sunday
Old yugioh: (not even 10 years ago)
Both players play the game, there is a lot of back and forth. +1 in card advantage is really powerful. Battle phase matters. Multiple draw steps makes players have to play around cards their opponents might draw for multiple turns of the game. Negates are incredibly rare and difficult to set up, and are usually 1 for 1's instead of free +1's.
Modern Yugioh:
One player plays the game a LOT. Second player tries to play the game while the first player tries to not let them play the game. Only cards the opponent current has matters. +1 is mediocre, decks aren't good unless they have 1 combo starters that end in +7 or more.
Future Yugioh:
Both players play on every turn. Every single card in every archtype is now also a hand trap or quick effect that can happen at any point in the game. Fusion monsters contact fusion from the deck. Link 0 monsters now exist and players can summon them from the extra deck by revealing cards in their hand. Players can conduct the battle phase on the first turn. Pot of greed is at 3 because it's too slow and doesn't impact the game on your opponent's first turn making it a dead draw going second.
coolest deck in edison? vayu turbo, strongest one? blackwing, most skilled deck? quickdraw synchron
The need to bring the game closer to this level. Fast enough for combo decks. Break my boards donlt exist, battle traps are still relevant. Stall is still a strategy etc
Also cards that reveal hand information such as mind crush
right now this is nice and all because people where so bad at deck building back in the day but what happens when we do to retro formats what we do to modern day yugioh and find the thing that kills the format
more edison!
Childhood, best.
hey my old Gravekeeper deck can almost go right in here unchanged* almost..with a few cards banned and a few restricted...
I have played this game since LOB
What are you talking about in the 7 min, priority is one of the few rules that kept the game from being negate & puke city.
Play instead of effect negation was super rare/at a high cost (for the game state unless already losing) and very limited even up to 5Ds era, so there was no need for decks to have to be able to puke out 3 boss monsters a turn because chances are 2/3 at least would be negated and blown up.
I HATE playing retro formats, but I mildly enjoy watching them.
Bro what do you think about branded bystall
Played so much armed samurai ben kei and mataza the zapper
What do you think about dark world right now? A good rogue/t2 or just 4 fun? And do you think that despia can be a good metacall with the right build?
Dark world is fun but not competitive in a format with bystial and ishizu in every deck
Branded feels like disciple lock or die but the lock is really strong so idk
How do you play dulling network
I found out about this format, so... Edison format is practically Yu-Gi-Oh Classic?
The only thing edison needs to make it perfect is making it so going first you can't draw.
What game is this? None plays edison in ygo omega...
Edison format website W!!!
Yoo! There’s even a website for this?😂🤣 imma just trade in my tearlament stuff for an Edison format deck right now!😘💫
We really need more tournaments like this I think the modern duel masters era yugioh is just not fun at all
19:46 i think you couldve summoned frog and tribute summoned fortress
So I know GOAT and Edison exist: but Is there a format for the xyz era?
HAT
@@yuseifudo6075 thanks
Tengu-Plant, but it's early-Xyz (only 11 Xyz monsters in that format, period).
Also tengu is not that diversified, unfortunately
E D I S O N
I prefer goat. Edison feels too linear at times.
edison cold be 1/2 years latter to get full six samurai, dark world...
Tengu Plant format is more FUN and skillfull IMO
Why couldn't the GB player havre used Starlight Road?
Edison Format is best format
Yugioh roboot series supported by Konami with prize cards like SJC did would make yugioh great again! They could sell soooo much new product just reprinting old cards they could gain back90% of the player pool that is feed up with current trash.
April 2016 format is better, Tengu is just the Edison DLC expansion, H.A.T. is the next trend like Edison was the trend after GOAT and people would be playing TOSS or INOV if they could agree on a banlist, or in INOV's case whether the D/D/D structure is legal
April 2016? Like 6 viable decks and half of those were Monarch variants. Mediocre at best. Copium, game went down the toilet after HAT.
Turn player priority literally never made any sense. In retrospect its a lot like duel links skills, where konami just uses mechanics outside of the cards to make the cards themselves viable. And then change their mind on a drop of a dime to sell more cards.
"Ryko targets. No wait he doesnt target, he chain blocks. No wait, nvm he doesnt chain block and he doesn't target either. Just keep buying...."
I can't understand priority ruling
I think Mar2011 /Sept2011 are goat
Edison is the best alt format.
Master duel implementing an edison ladder is maximum copium
Shoshuasmidth
i prefer 2011 march over this, real sad its not getting as much love
