- Alabama's next head football coach landed at the Tuscaloosa airport before 9 p.m. Friday night.
DeBoer was officially announced as the program's next coach earlier Friday night. A team meeting is expected to be held on campus Friday and a press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. That press conference will air in its entirety on ABC 33/40, our website, and across our social media platforms.

As a graduate of the University in 2001, I have seen my share of new head coaches come and go. I just pray that our new coach will continue to do the things that got him to this point. Being the Head Coach at the University of Alabama is completely different than being the HC at any other University in the country.
We will know quick, fast, and in a hurry if he has what it takes to be successful in the S.E.C.
The game has changed so much for the worse that I do not blame Coach Saban one bit for hanging up his whistle. There is absolutely zero loyalty in college football anymore. The transfer portal has completely ruined what used to be. I think in certain cases and under certain criteria that a player should be allowed to go to another school.
For example, I had a player who was an exceptional WR for me at the HS level. He went to Southern Miss. to play for coach Larry Fedora because he employed the spread offense which is what we ran at my HS. My kid goes to Southern Miss and starts as a true freshman and even earned an espy award that year and played in a bowl game.
Coach Fedora takes the job at North Carolina and the HC that comes to take his place was a two tight end set running the I formation. Basically left my WR out there as a decoy 90 percent of the time. My kid should have had the chance to transfer to another school where they ran an offense that suited his skill set but he was not allowed to because there wasn't a platform in place for him to do that without having to forfeit a year of eligibility.
Now you have every Tom, Dick, and Harry hopping into the portal every year and it is forcing head coaches to have to recruit a kid every year instead on just his senior year in high school. A literal night mare.
I saw last year where two defensive starters from Georgia who had won back to back national titles transfer to another school. WTF?!? Why would anyone even consider doing something like that.? Oh I know why, they can be paid openly now. No loyalty from players to their schools has and will continue to diminish the pageantry of college football. It has become no different than the NFL and the only time I watch an NFL game is if one of my former players happens to be playing on television that day. Other than that, I could care less about professional football.
I can say that when Coach Saban retired form college football so did I. I will always support my beloved Tide but it will never be the same again.

So let me ask you this did Paul Bear Bryant have loyalty to Kentucky and A&M before being hired at Alabama? If you day yes then why did he coach at Alabama and not stay at either school before Alabama? Also, it was not until the '90s that NFL players could decide to go where they wanted to play as a free agents did the players have loyalty to the teams and NFL that dictated where they could go as free agents before the '90s?

Katie I’m wondering the same thing. Much of the Bama deep pocket donors and radical fan base could force DeBoer to leave before giving time to build a championship program. Hope I’m wrong but what worries me is much of the Alabama fan base will be expecting greatness right out of the starting blocks….which is seldom reality.

Thank you, Huskies. We were pulling for you against Michi. I can relate to how crushing it is to lose a coach. Our coaching staff got wiped out every year. Nobody stayed loyal to Saban, but they went for HC positions and assistant coaches went for opportunities. The Saban coaching tree has many branches that cover most of the US map. Apologies for some of the lesser fanbases and their derogatory comments. Please just ignore them. They don’t get out of their trailer parks and backwoods very much, and it shows. Just ignore them. I know that type is everywhere but they are so embarrassing. Wishing UW the best.

Deboer went 25-3 at UW with no top recruits. Imagine what he can do with a bunch of 5 stars. He’s no Saban but as long as Alabama understands and accepts there will never be another Saban, Doboer is going to be terrific there.
Transfer portal and NEI make it impossible to build and keep a team together now. Every year a coach has to start all over

I'm a UW Husky... Nothing personal but remember Willie Taggert and Mario Cristobol. Ask how great it is for them when they left Oregon. I get the money. I am older than you Kalen by 12 years. You are a nice guy and great coach but my generation of athletes feel that college football is ruined and it is all about money and greed. Very sad!

Before being the head coach at LSU Nick Saban never had experience recruiting in the SEC nor did he have any sort of coaching job in the SEC before being the head coach at LSU.
