I’m sorry I’ve not done that route before. Sounds like a good excuse to go back to Zadar on holiday 👍🏼

Novalja on the island of pag i presume?
Well get out at the bus station, and buy a bus ticket for novalja there, check on the info center at the bus station which bus, when and from which platform you board.
You'll have some ride till novalja, first to the bridge of the island of pag, then across the island, as novalja is on the opposite side of the island, perhaps even bys goes that way, coastal way and the crosses onto the island at novalja with the ferry, but from zadar strictly it probably goes across the bridge and traverses the island then, but it doesn't matter, just ask on the info booth or the ticket booth and they'll tell you everything.
The ride may last maybe two hours even, maybe less, but over an hour for sure, don't know, the bridge is dunno, 20-30 kilometers from zadar, at least, and then more or less the same across the island, in the season traffic, but depends dies the bus stops along the way and so on, but will take and hour or two for sure, but it won't be complicated, and the bus will be decent, and you'll have grat views along the ride.

Is there any other way to get to and from the city? Heard that taxis are complete scammers in Croatia.

No, just taxi or bus. You could negotiate a price with the taxi driver before departing the airport though which might help.

Very helpful! But then again ure destroying the business from that Taxi agency who runs the airport. Zadar Airport - Zadar old town only 120euros 🤣🤣🤣
