Bruce was supremely focused and disciplined on becoming a musical artist, player and a songwriter. I've heard Van Zandt say another time he does not recall Bruce ever taking a non music job. I think perhaps the most dominant quality Bruce has had throughout his life is to be supremely focused on what he wanted -- a dog who would not let go of a bone. He said in a bio that when he taught himself guitar, (I wanna say starting at 14?), he'd shut himself in his room with his guitar and some 45s and work at teaching himself to play from 6 hours to as many as 10 hours per day, for days at a time.
All I can say is...get his autobiography on audible or whatever. To hear him read his own words is just fantastic and it's a thoroughly enjoyable book. I wasn't sure who I wanted to see most on their current tour, Bruce or Stevie. Both brilliant.
'When the greatest art being made was also the most commercial'. That´s certainly rare in modern history. Beatles really changed music and some of the bands that came right after them (Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc.) were awesome.
Was saying to my son the other day [after attending concert at Villa park] I know you have your music, mostly gaming inspired, but I don't see any artists today that will have a similar following when they reach my age [he loves music from 70's/80's he is 22].

My 1st recollection of SVZ was at Mandela Day at Wembley in 1988 when he joined Simple Minds live onstage and blurted out the United Artists Against Apartheid track - fantastic presence on stage that day and that performance has been typical of Steve ever since in moreorless everything he has done.
Bruce is another Italian kid with a Dutch last name. Steve said something about rock’n’roll that I always noticed about the Beatles: They were the best, the most avant-garde, and the most popular at the same time. As he says, that’s really, really rare.
This has to be a re-post of an interview from before this year because Stevie is way back down to his early days playing weight on tour this year, and this interview is Stevie before that.
I'm 71 grew up with rock and always loved the rebel/question authority aspect, felt it was important for society. I have to say it breaks my heart to see Springsteen, N Young, Joni, Dylan all doing and saying exactly the opposite of what Seeger, Guthrie, and our old-timey REAL heroes would be saying now. WTF happened, too rich, too much pure unadulterated echo chamber, what? It is so obvious our media, our schools, our gov't has been completely taken over gutted from the inside, and what do we hear from our rock and rollers we have lover forever? Crickets or even worse. Thankfully we have Sound of Freedom and Jason Aldean; but I guess bruce et al are busy counting their millions.
I'm not far behind you age wise lol, Pad. Interesting comment you have there, well here is how I see it. # I don't know, care, etc, anything about Jason, other than he is Country, todays Country , which was take over/coopted by pop, a several years ago. Jason's new song; 'Try that...' is a good song, a great song, and political on top, which is a rare combination, a song that actually works. Again, a good/great song. NONE of our heroes from the 80's, following the era, are / were able to write anything that measured up to their old level of writing, NONE... ZZ Top, came out with something recently , last year or two, it isn't even close to what Gibons was writing in the 70's 80's ... once again, it seems that NO ONE today can write anything really worthwhile compared to the music they gave us in the 80's ~. Lost City of Atlantis, like their soles were taken from them lol.
Aldean really? Like his new song? Filmed in front of a courthouse where a black man was lynched in 1927. So is Aldean a racist or just too stupid or ignorant to understand history?
It was possible then....now I don't know...still writing and playing without traction. You gotta be a freak now...writers not welcome. Sad. I'll never forget getting off the greyhound at the Freehold junction though....under a drizzled sky...thinking it was perfect...only because that's where Bruce was born....it was a mecca. From there hitchhiker to Philly the next morning.

He says rock and roll is his “religion.” I pray that he turns to Christ, as a guitar won’t bring salvation into heaven. Only Jesus Christ will.

Dan Rather is a great journalist, a great American. What have You done lately?....
He was an idiot, for quitting the group, before the huge 1984-85 tour, to pursue a, umm, solo career.

He’s not a great musician but he’s very entertaining when he goes off on an unhinged drunken TDS rant about conservatives
