It will work with any numbers, both just need to be 14 or less. Ideally less than 14 to better disguise the selected cards.

You could probably use two dice for them to get a random number. The highest they could get is 12 👍👍

You said the spectators have to cut less than ten and that the numbers can't add up to more than 15, but what if both spectators cut nine cards?

Does it alway have to be fifteen? Suppose you are with a group of friends and/or family and they ask you to do it multiple times. Would seem kinda "sketchy" if you are always using 15, no?
I believe you can change the number, you just need to make sure you note the prediction at that number and then make sure you deal one less than that number following each selection. Hope that helps! 👍
