Marcel was a beast. His boxing record was just insane --in his first 109 fights he was never beaten, only disqualified twice for low blows, and in one of those fights, he knocked his opponent down 5 times. He was finally outpointed at age 32, and the only other loss was from a dislocated shoulder against Lamotta. Certainly the greatest European champion.

The Best French boxer. From Russia with love!
Jake LaMotta once defeated the greatest boxer ever, Sugar Ray Robinson and fought him 6 times overall, losing most. LaMotta is considered one of the all-time bests. When Cerdan fought LaMotta, he had to fight him with only one arm, and gave him hell before having to quit in the 10th due to having a dislocated shoulder
LaMotta said that Cerdan was the only boxer he would rate up there with Sugar Ray Robinson. Marcel Cerdan was the perfect boxer, there will never be another one like him. And just like Rocky, only a plane crash could've stopped them.

Mon club de boxe en France est une salle appelé « Marcel Cerdan » ici tout le monde le connait et le respect, c’est un exemple de bon boxeur.

I don’t go back as far as the Cerdan era but I’ve been a keen fan of boxing since 1956. I have seen every single significant fight since then live or on TV. I have seen most of the old timers 20’s 30’s etc Marcel Cerdan was the only boxer that actuall escaped me as, for some unknown reason I punched in to YT to watch his bout against the great middleweight Tiny Zale. Wow what a performance by a 32 y.o. Cerdan !! He was one tough customer that night. Cerdan didn’t even like boxing because he was so good at other sports but the money was in boxing. He made the Algerian National soccer team and he wasn’t even a professional like the other members of the team. He was a paratrooper during WW11. Can only imagine how good he’d have been if WW11 never happened. A bout between Cerdan and the great Sugar Ray Robinson may well have supplanted the first Frazier - Ali bout as the greatest bout ever.

One of the best middleweights ever and probably one of the best fighters in history. The guy really never lost a fight. And he was a really good puncher, who had a great chin.
There's one thing you should know about Cerdan : he didn't like boxing. He prefered football or soccer if you are American, he was actually so good at it that he played for Morocco's national team despite never playing professionnaly. The problem was that football did not pay well at the time and when he was a teenager his father forced him into boxing because he took 100% of his gains and was always short of money. Many historians of boxing says that Cerdan oftenly avoided hitting his opponents too hard, either because he liked them or when he thought that it was not necessary to secure victory. He was definitely more of a gentleman than a fighter

@@PykuOff Alors on est deux, mais de sûrement éloigné ^^ mon grand père nous en avait parlé, et à mon père (son père) plus jeune aussi, et c'est qu'il y a deux ans qu'on a pu avoir des extraits officiels, en remontant l'arbre généalogique (casse tête ce truc en plus).

I agree cerden is defo one of the best pound for pound ever. 124 fights 4 losses .never lost a fight legitimately in his whole career. Lost 2 by DQ and 2 on injuries so technically his undefeated. The man was a Savage in the ring and his power was devastating. He was unbelievable on the inside. He would overwhelm opponents with nine stop aggression and power. I believe he would have beat lamota in the rematch what a tragedy.
i would love to agree because he's the only really famous french boxer but being completly honest to myself i can't imagine him standing a chance against the actual champs: sloppy technique and he leaves a whole lotta opening. however he show a tremendous heart

@@davidfitzgerald4683 Cyrille Delanoit beat him the first time. Most in attendance thought he won. He lost the second. Both fights were stinkers from what I've read. Anton Raadik KO'ed Cerdan in the last round but he was saved by the bell. Wish there was footage of that fight. Still a tremendous fighter Cerdan.

You have to know that some French reporters thought that Delannoit wouldn't even last 3 rounds against Cerdan... How hilarious when you know he actually fought 30 with a legitimate win over the French "deity".

Bonjour tout d'abord dauthuille et villemain sont venu apres cerdan ce n'est pas exactement la meme generationt villemain tres rapide complet mais une absence de punch qui la empecher detre chammion du monde dauthuille meme generation que villemain dailleur en 48 jour du championat de cerdan dauthuille navais pas le niveau de tenir devant la motta cest alor que sa carriere etait en regression ce quil a fait quil puisse atteindre un niveau suffisant cest sont depard au canada qui a tout changer meme voler contre gavilan malheureusement ont connais la suite avec lamotta et il avait ses deux .mains cerdan encaissais les coups de lamotta san probleme avec un bras quil a faillis perdre puisque celui ci etait devenu entierement bleu source un ami de cerdan et meme du pere cerdan ,que jais connu enfin comparrer cerdan a villelain ou au tarzan de buzenval cest comme comparer muhamad ali a paterson par ex
Dailleur il y a 33ans motta etait inviter au dossier de l'ecran car daurhuille avait pretendu quil avait ete droguer ,drogue ajouter dans sont jus dorange a la minute de repos de ce dernier round a detroit ,lamotta avait repondu cest celui la quil la droguer en montrant sont poing guauche.
Dailleur motta disait de cerdan cest le meilleur boxeur que les europeens nous ont envoyer et sur dauthuille je savais lor de mes combats contre dauthuille quil n'avais pas la puissance de frapoe necessaire pour me mettre ko bien que dans sont deuxieme match il a eu les cote casser.cerdan ont le compare avec un seul ray robinson.

This "frog" looks lethal, PINOCCHIO-legit. Those short, fast, compact hooks, esp. right hook, looks very PINOCCHIO-dangerous. A "French boxer?" A rarity, almost never heard of it.

I don't know about being the greatest French boxer, more like just the overall best. I'd pick him against any middleweight and probably lightheavyweight, including Robinson. I'm not even French, although I did have a croissant for breakfast.

@@jskypercussion Robinson was never KO, I doubt he'd suffer his first KO against a guy who shamelessly ducked him after the war. That is without mentionning the fact that Zale never KO a man of the caliber of Robinson. As for Cerdan, considering Robinson beat two guys (Belloise and Villemain) the French didn't want any part of, I'd rather bet on the American personally.

Les grands boxeurs rendent ce sport brutal beau. Tant de soufrance et de sacrifices pour arriver a ce niveau. Il y a souvent la comedie d'avant match pour attirer le gogo.
Il y a souvent un perdant qui ne ressemble plus qu'a un pantin.
Par contre quand c'est terminé le vainqueur va voir le perdant et discute un peu par respect. Il sait qu'un jour lui aussi ira au tapis.

@@Ivan-nu2um effectivement sur le CV 120 victoires ça impressionne, maintenant, il faut aussi comprendre qu'au delà du fait que le nombre de licenciés en boxe dans le monde était plus important, une grande partie de ces combats étaient face à des boxeurs "semi-pros" qui n'avaient pas vraiment de références. Il faudra à Cerdan plus de 35 combats pour disputer le titre de champion de France des poids welters, face à un Omar Kouidri adversaire qu'il avait déjà battu par le passé. D'ailleurs toutes ses défenses de champion de France des welters auront lieu face à Kouidri qui était très léger pour un welter et aujourd'hui combattrait en "super-léger" ou "light-welter" (c'est dire l'absence de concurrence derrière).
