He's doing what he's doing because he needs the Yggdrasil tree to create a mana seed so he can go home and plant a new mana tree for his planet so it won't die. He doesn't need to harm the tree in anyway, but he's seen what the mana cannon does to it (via time travel) and tries to convince the humans to stop developing it. The man developing it betrays Dhaos and uses propaganda to make Dhaos out as a demon. Dhaos, having no other way out, has to wage war on the humans to destroy the cannon.
Dhaos isn't really an evil villain, he's just a victim of circumstance and is forced into the position. He's really a noble, peace loving king back on Darris Kharlan.
MajorTugh jedi ***** that's why the philosophy of the game/story is 'IF THERE'S EVIL IN THIS WORLD IT LURKS IN THE HEARS OF MAN" as if to say you can be a human, an elf, a fairy, an angel, a devil or whatever kind of being but nobody is evil until evil lurks in someone's heart. You can be anybody but being good or bad depends on what you are inside. This is why I love this game and it's story. Because if you would think of it deeply and apply it to real life, the philosophy and the story of the game is basically speaking about "COEXISTENCE" people maybe different but nobody is evil until they choose to be evil. And that doesn't make the rest of their kind evil.
the excitement, story telling action and graphics were incomparable to games these 2018 people of this era dont have the heart any longer...hope someone funds tales of phantasia revival in PC not PS4..ps4 games based on graphics only...again it must be PC!!!
Aside from the "You're weapon kills mana" "I didn't know!" thing (didn't he said he'd accept responsibility if anything went wrong in episode 1?), this actually wasn't that bad of an episode... I like how they're driving home the true nature of Dhaos
I like Dhaos, then I don't. He works so much to help the planet by correcting the mistakes of those who harm the planet, but then he himself is willing to trade the planet in order for a ticket "home". If only he could work with the citizens of the planet to make a home where he's at. :(
I know this comment is nine years old, but I feel like it warrants a reply. Dhaos was never going to trade their world for his, or for a way back home. Extracting a seed from Yggdrasil during the blooming would have done no harm to Aselia (this being the name of the world Cress and co. are from), but it would have allowed his own world to be saved. All those deaths were senseless; they could've been avoided if people had just taken five minutes to hear what he was saying. His world was dying as a result of a scientist there firing of an extremely powerful mana weapon, which killed their world tree. The people of Aselia were on the verge of making that same mistake. Rather than merely thinking only of his world, Dhaos was trying to warn them for their own good as well.
Hey, its been over a year since you commented, I don't even know if ur gonna see this, I've always been a fan of this game, but I didn't know any of this. Is it from other games in the franchise? Or from the creator's book that was the original project?
If Yuri from Tales of Vesperia were here, he would of at least beat Dhaos but show mercy and get Dhaos to think of humanity the different way. I mean when Yuri deal with the final boss Duke, he had a same thinking as Dhaos which is turning their back on humanity.
The game wasn’t really supposed to make you feel that way. If it did you missed the point. Dhaos is the antagonist, but he is misunderstood. He is trying to save his own world, but before he could do that he had to stop the humans from destroying their own (he needed the mana seed but Midgard and their MagiTek was killing the source). The war and the people he killed was due to human ignorance and fear. Dhaos wasn’t a hero, but that’s only from the human perspective. To his people, he was a hero. (yeah 4 year old comment i know, don’t care)
Yeah, it’s kinda complicated. Cress and Mint are fighting Dhaos based off peoples fear telling them he’s evil, and attributing their slain family to him. But their families were slain by the Black Knights who thought they could use Dhaos. Dhaos didn’t give a damn about the Black Knights and killed them. He did kill a lot of people himself so he’s not the Martyr this series seems to be ring to make him out to be. Just another person who has a vested interest in the survival of the tree. There are no “good guys”
Dhaos is a hypocrite, his own people misused the mana on their planet so he just jaunts on over to aselia to take theirs, he even has plenty of time to do this if you consider tos which is supposedly a prequel to phantasia, but no, he decides to wait till it's almost too late for his home world and jaunts on over, then uses demons of all things to get what he wants and then wanders why everyone thinks he's evil, dhaos is either, a bad dude who's set his mind on damning himself to save his people, or he's a good guy who's just too stupid to realise he's going about this all wrong, either way dhaos is an asshole, not a hero, MAYBE an anti villain, actually, he's the perfect definition of anti villain so yeah, not a good guy, at least not in my opinion
Again... The Bitter Black Wind Begins To Howl... Very well... Come if it is ☠️ that You seek! Battle with Magus - The Musical 🎶 The Demon is Within Yourself. This will lead to Apocalypse... The Future Refused To Change... 🕛
Dhaos is most likely judging other planets without thinking about his own sins. So far, not everybody in Dhaos' planet are bad people. It is Dhaos who misrepresent his own planet which is blaming Cless and his party's planets. Lloyd and his party members don't seem to be bad people. Lloyd and his party members also come from the planet Derris Kharlan.
@Nittelect, if you watch the anime in Japanese you'll see that what he really says is "Watashi wa" wich means "I" in english. Also after that he ask what he can do to repent for his sin. Believe me, I had been around dubs, and this dub is by far the worst I had seen. I rather watch it in Japanese.
how is it that the feminist movement hasn't destroyed all anime already? they ruin lives of comedians, politicians etc but anime just lives on like a teflon don! amazing!
"Good men can make mistakes because of their ignorance or because of their arrogance or because of fear."
Best quote.
"If you seek demons, then turn your gaze within"
Holy shit.
I've always liked how Dhaos turned out to be not what they had expected.
"Your weapon kills mana"
"I didn'nt know!"
*flashback*
"Your weapon kills mana"
Liar much?
"If you seek demons, then turn your gaze within" Dhaos is the Magneto of the tales series no doubt.
That is a good analogy.
Be safe and be 😎

I always felt like Secret of Mana and Tales of Phantasia were connected......
Dhaos isn't really an evil villain, he's just a victim of circumstance and is forced into the position. He's really a noble, peace loving king back on Darris Kharlan.
Rod of Might He was probably usurped.
He got possessed by pure chaos
To this day I wonder if Martel still remembered who she was originally. Or if Dhaos, for that matter, knew she had once been a native of his world.
I love Johnny Yong Bosch's version of Cress! He sounds so young and heroic!
So Dhaos isnt that bad for a demon

Yes in fact the name Yggdrasil in itself means "World tree" Or "Tree of the World" depends on how the name is used or translated.
What about the unicorn turned staff
