Lions sleep at night. (This was supposed to be sarcastic but then I had this thought..) In fact Lions sleep most of the day, so I’m surprised there even was a film
Herbaman The point is, if you’re showing this to a *human* audience, us *humans* relate to something more that has a connection to us, such as facial emotions, etc. A quarter or half of people in the audience probably don’t even know shit about lions to appreciate to accuracy of its photo realism. The moment you make a lion talk, realism goes out the door. Plus, the animals weren’t even moving like they naturally would in *real life* so it’s either you commit 100% to photo realism or not at all.
When Scar said to Mufasa “Long live the king.” In the cartoon it gave me chills but when Scar said that to Mufasa in the live action movie it wasn’t as deep and meaningful as it was before. 🤷🏻♀️
I feel you on the animation version, but you had more context as to why the betrayal was going to occur in this version. I mean his brother whooped his ass for the throne and you think he's not gonna take that chance to grab that clout, pssh.

Frog Whisperer honestly some people are such retards. They get excited for real looking lions and yet get angry when the lions don’t look exactly like the animation. Obviously he’s gonna look all mangy he’s meant to be the evil brother.
@Rabbit The whole first Narnia film has terrible Cgi. Aslan looks like shit. Even in 2005 Narnia was outdated. Peter Jackson's King Kong and Star Wars episode 3 came out in the same year and put Narnias CGI to shame. Lion King 2019 has breathtaking visuals, the I can't wait to be King sequence alone is worth the price of addmision. Narnia's CGI is garbage.
DerrickAntonio85 tell me you’re kidding. When Aslan talks it doesn’t feel like words were just simply falling out of a mouth. Can’t say the same for the 2019 remake.
@@DerrickAntonio85 i'm not gonna deny that the cgi in the lion king remake is amazing it's just that their facial expressions look dead. They could've atleast animated little squints on the eyes, make them go wide, and have the brows scrunch up a tiny bit. Especially mufasa's death scene, they should've atleast animated simba's ears going down in that scene but they didn't, they did do it to nala though when scar took over the pride. If they did it to nala why didn't they do it to simba especially in such an important scene? What i'm trying to say is that aslan is a more expressive lion 14 years ago than the lions in the lion king remake. It's not about cgi at all, it's about the emotions that the characters portray in the film and how they can connect with the audience with it, something that the lion king remake unfortunately lacks.
They removed my 2 favorite scenes the one with rafiki when he talks about the past hurting and hit sings over the head and the scene where the hyenas and getting shivers just saying Mufasa’s name
That one scene where Nala screams "Lions... ATTACK!" aggravated me the most. Felt out of place and could have just been a her roaring and jumping in and everyone following suit.
Aw seriously? "ATTACK!!" ???? sounds really pathetic for a lion. 10/10 would be better if she just roared and jump in. Action speaks louder than words afterall.
@@cookiemocher388 it wouldve been fine but Disney went out of it's way to defame Kimba. Even going so far as to slander it as a cheap knock off to the Lion King. When you look at early interviews, even Simba's voice actor thought he was playing the role of Kimba and wasnt told otherwise until later (he himself was a fan of Kimba)
@@pluna3382 True, they could've at least acknowledged the show or gave it a shout out or something, it's incredibly disheartening considering the fact that the creator of Kimba loved Disney.
So like.. do they only own the land at certain times? Y’know, since at certain times of day the sun casts different shadows as it moves? And at night do they even own anything?
Original: Scar pretends to save Mufasa but digs his claws in his paws instead. Mocks, and then kills him. Remake: Scar halfheartedly paws at Mufasa's face and Mufasa lazily falls into the ravine.
Dude said “man I only knew Mufasa for 20 minutes” THAT TOOK MY OUT 😂😂😂😂😭 because true and that scene be having almost everyone crying no matter how many times they seem the movie 😭😭😭
Problems with this film: 1. Bad voice casting. Scar as a character was destroyed mainly because of the lack of impact and sinister intent in his voice. Many of his iconic scenes were rendered useless and just sounded comical and desperate. 2. Many great scenes in the cartoon were cut out for others. For example: "I just can't wait to be King." in the original it was fun, colourful, and all around nearly impossible, but that's what made it entertaining. The remake had two CGI fluffballs running around other CGI animals, which was just repetitive. 3. Be Prepared was an amazing and intimidating scene, again the voice actor couldn't do it justice, but it just wasn't the same without the green smoke, bubbling lava, and army of hyenas. 4. THE HYENAS. Whilst the voice actors of the supporting characters were great, the main one, just sucked. Un-intimidating, seeming to change her character motivations at whim, as though they wanted to give her a personality but were unsure with which one. 5. They also cut out the bug eating competition scene. I loved that scene. As well as the 'hula drag' scene. :(((((
Indeed those are problems, just to name a few. That's pretty much what you get when you try to transpose a cartoon animation into so-called ''live action'', and try to make it photo-realistic. Moral of the story : PLEASE LET GO OF THAT GODDAMN FORMULA ALREADY, DISNEY!!!
Let put it this way The cgi lion king removes a heart warming life lesson about the past hurting and ether we run from it or learn from it. And instead we get 5 minuets of a dung beetle rolling poop that happens to have Simba’s fur
Instead of Disney remaking their classic animated films from the 90s they should make live action remakes of their movies from the early 2000s that get literally no attention like Atlantis the lost empire and Treasure Planet. Especially Atlantis I think would look absolutely amazing in live action because it’s all human characters and there’s a lot of epic scenes they could make with CGI for example: the crystal chamber scene. Idk tell me what y’all think 🤔 Also Atlantis is a amazing movie and One of my favorite films.
@@fire-du8jr, except it turns out real lions actually have more emotion and facial expressions than the ones in the movie, which means it was purposefully made that way.

I remember seeing The Lion King play with the lads, and we just kept making jokes about Mufasa's deathike "Yo My Boi got BODIED, Scar didn't have to MURK him like that, Jeez!" XD
The thing is James Earl Jones is sounding older. Darth Vader in Rogue One was sounding more gravelly than he did in the original trilogy, so I would not be surprised if he's sounding more gravelly in this compared to the original Lion King voicing.
What did you mean by females? Do you mean there was no obvious junk on any of the lions? Not surprising, I have a unicorn poster that I've owned for 27 years now (it's showing, it's a bit faded and the laminating is splitting some spots) and there is no junk on the unicorns.
Age changes people's voices, that's natural progression. In movies? A good ear can pick it up, especially when an actor is reprising a role decades later.
The Lion King 2019 photorealistic remake was good but it had flaws music not as good as the original and lacked emotion due to photorealistic animation I prefer the original.
@Evainoir The movie was great: the animation was amazingly done but it lacked emotion. The songs made me feel nostalgic but they were lacking. I like both.
Ok after reading so many comments on this movie i feel like i am the only person on this PLANET that thinks this movie is better than the original, the songs are better and just that it looks so accurate makes it ten times more emotional. Yes maybe the voices aren’t as emotional but the look of it makes up for it. But idk i seem to be the only one who thinks so
I still think the creators were lazy in their designing decisions of the characters, I appreciate their effort in evolving technology to make the film look good, but the Lion King, which is known for its animated liveliness, is not the right choice to make realistic . I mean, they're still able to do it though without the realism, they couldve still been able to both refine and make the film lively. I mean look at the good dinosaur or Moana, it's Disney, anything's possible.
I agree. The animation WAS beautiful....but they made it look TOO real and it lacked ALL the emotion and expression and power that made the original Lion King so epic. Even in scenes that are done with NO dialogue (for example, when Rafiki comes through the crowd and greets the King and does the ceremony at the beginning.) Not a WORD is said in that moment, but you still see clearly, the respect and reverence the other animals give Rafiki, the look of joy and pride on Mufasa's face as he sees his friend and goes to greet him. The deep respect Rafiki has with the King when he bows to Mufasa, but the friendship as well, when they hug and go together to see the baby. Then he goes to the Queen and you can clearly tell this is a special moment as he blesses the baby and presents him to the other animals. I saw NONE OF THAT in the new one. No reverence. No respect. No epic moment at all. Even the SONG wasn't as epic. The original is DEFINITELY the superior film in ALL ways....not the least of which is that it gave ALL of these characters more emotion and life and heart than any ONE character in this so-called "live-action remake"....EVEN in scenes where its word for word and shot for shot the exact same scene.
@@CeltycSparrow Indeed, I agree with everything you said. And what's more, I personally find even the very IDEA of remaking such a classic, to be insulting. I mean come on, did this film really NEED to be RE-MADE?? Of course not. And with this new installment, we can clearly see why.
@@rigelb9025 Absolutely. The original is WELL-KNOWN as being one of Disney's greatest animated films to date. It took 20 yrs for another movie to best it at the box office. This movie DID NOT need a remake. For one...They VIOLATED poor Scar in my opinion in the remake. SWEET GOD they raped his character. His look was PATHETIC. Be Prepared (one of the most iconic songs IN the movie) just....fizzled. And then he wants to bang his brother's Queen. SERIOUSLY???? They made Mufasa (one of THE MOST powerful and regal characters in Disney PERIOD) sound old and exhausted. You HAD James Earl Jones's voice from the first one. There was ABSOLUTELY NONE of the emotionally epic scenes from the first one. It all just looked....dead. There was NO discernable difference in Simba's expression between him singing "I Just Can't Wait to be King" and when he finds his dad dead in the ravine. NONE. As a film critic, I say this is honestly one of the WORST Disney remakes they have done. Right up there with Dumbo and that RIDICULOUS Pete's Dragon.

That might just be my perception of it though and majority may in fact not share my view on it! But whatever...that is how i perceive it so there is that...My problem is that proportions of the eyes compared to the rest of the facial features looks kind of odd to me, like one of those gigantic anime-style eyes! The way the handled it in Alita Live Action movie worked, cuz she is human! On animals big eyes like that look weird and creepy! At least to me!
@@Summon256 It looks pretty good. Its not perfect but things like scar look way better. Its just using deepfakes to overlay the face so it isn't production level perfect but it shows that if they went more cartoony it could have been better.

This would have been an awesome movie.... if it wasn't for the fact The lion king was already perfect... if they wanted the photo realism they should have kept the facial expressions.. it's the emotion and fantasy that made the lion king so great... take that away and you just have a shell of greatness.. it's cool to look at.. but if you seen the original you will forget the new movie in a heartbeat... I watched it and when I try to remember a scene I remember the original scene instead
I didn’t even think it was that bad. Sure it could never live up to the classic but I went in with an open mind and it wasn’t atrocious it was just...okay
I personally just miss 2D animation. CGI animation is fine, but it doesn't HAVE to by this hyper realistic thing, and it just takes the magic out of the films for me. I just recently watched into the spiderverse, and literally wanted to CRY several times JUST because of how amazing the animation is. They used a combination of 2D and 3D animation, and it's just breath taking. Animation is getting treated like a lesser medium these days, and that makes me so incredibly sad. It's treated as something that's 'just for kids' now, or stupid adult cartoons like Family guy. It's not taken seriously anymore. And yes, super realistic CGI can be amazing to look at, and see in film, tv, and video games, not EVERYTHING needs to use it. Lion King doesn't NEED a CGI remake. Treasure Planet doesn't need a live action/CGI remake, Atlantis, CHIP AND DALE. They don't NEED this treatment. Giving them that treatment just further undermines animation, and I hate it. I miss 2D animation. I miss animation being treated with respect. My favorite films are all animated, and seeing some being remade in live action just breaks my heart. Because of all that ^ Into The Spiderverse just really hit home for me, because it reminded me of how amazing animation can be, when it's not trying to look like real life. It reminded me of how unique and cool animation can be, and how far it's come. It elicited an emotional response from me that no film or show has done in years. Animation is amazing, and limitless. I hope Into The Spiderverse can get a series of films, or even a show in the same style the first film is, because it deserves it, and it would make me so incredibly happy.
I've watched the Lion wisperer.... Real lions show more emotions than this cgi mess... My girlfriend's cat shows waaay more emotion than anything in this movie..
yeah this lion king is shit, this movie removes the emotion and expression, something that is key in the original! Now the emotional scenes for instance are JUST riding on the music. And when you look at it... kinda looks stupid to have a realistic lion talk. I think the only respect for this movie I have is the quality of it. The man work in it. BUT this movie should never have been made
Precisely my thoughts. I thought the Jungle Book Remake Mowgli was a solid film because the animals were animated with non-photorealistic models which allowed them to show expressions like in the original. It followed the original story closely, but not exact. This movie just felt like Disney flexing, which is why I wasn't sold on the VFX like others were. If Disney is going to remake these classics, they need to hold true to the main features that made the original great as opposed to shoveling their mass bank of resources at the film and trying to wow the audience with pretty colors.
It’s a live action version for a reason, if you wanted to see emotion there’s a animated version for a reason, you don’t see any lions smiling or showing emotion
@@BLU3DeViLXbox well that would be fine if it was a completly different stpry. This story needs expression als it simply is stupid... and sorry but this movie is riding on those who seen the orginal, this includes me
i think it's great. I don't understand all the complaints about emotion, it's animation vs cgi, you can't expect the cgi to keep up. Both films are good for different reasons
Pitting the CGI Lion King (yes, I REFUSE to call it "live-action") against the 1994 animated one...it's like throwing an imp into a trial by combat against a mountain that rides horses without a champion.
I still feel it’s super soulless and lazy. Also As a huge Animation fan it pisses me off that John Favreau gets so riled up when someone mentions its animated, as if it being animated makes it a lesser product. And if boring hyper realism is the direction that cgi animation is headed instead of imaginative fantasy innovation then that sort destroys the point of animation
@@Stratelier i guarantee if the mcu was the same in storytelling and quality, only in an animated format instead, no one would care about it. It's sad that the notion that animation is for kids only still persists.
@@elmuchacho3379 I may not buy that guarantee, but yeah, an animated MCU certainly would NOT be dominating half the top-10 list of the biggest movies of all time.
@@elmuchacho3379 but at least the live action MCU chracters can show emotion. Look at Rocket racoon in end game when he finds out his only family is gone to dust. or any of the other scenes hes in the the guardians of the galaxy. I'd say (as I've said in the comments reply section higher up a few seconds ago) that it's more like a two-hour long tech demo. A National Geographic-style documentary would have been far more captivating.
I love the lion king so goddamn much that one time when I was 12, I sent Disney studios a letter telling them how much I loved it and they sent me back two prints of Simba. One when he was a kid, and one when he was an adult, and on them they wrote “to Sarah , from Simba”. It was so precious and I appreciate them for that. The 1994 lion king is so important to me and honestly I think the new one is alright. It’s not terrible, but I’m not gonna see it again. I cried at the opening scene and the score always gets me. LET ME TELL YOU THOUGH- Simba and scars battle at the end is and was my absolute favorite part of the movie.

When you mention how Disney kept calling the movie “original” but kept referencing all of this older stories... They were willing to compare it to EVERYTHING but the Kimba story that they stole from the little guys. Smh.

Ran out of ideas? Idiot. Disney's animated classics are based on classic stories that already exist. You never run out of popular stories. But they take a RISK that people won't like their version. So they do remakes for guaranteed income.
@@SaikoKujo So what's your point? Remaking everything (well technically it's only two movies but you get it) may be an easy cash grab but a business is a business. That remake statement from Walt Disney was proven to be fabricated, and some original ideas have been put on the back-burner because the teams are being forced to focus on these terrible, 90% CGI, "live action" remakes. Moana, for example, almost wasn't made because Disney wasn't confident that it would turn a profit, and they didn't have the nostalgia factor to do all the marketing for them. It really is tragic because these "live action" remakes suck. They're just lazy cash cows, and people are falling for them.
This wasn’t a movie, this wasn’t a remake, this wasn’t a retelling. This was a show off of Disney’s Fancy computer graphics. This was them sayin, “ Look at how realistic these characters look!” Without caring about actually telling a story.
I saw it today in theaters, and several people started laughing hysterically when mufasa died, mostly because of the goofy zoom wide-angle thing around simba's face but anyway it definitely did not pack the same punch
Okay but even though the remake is kinda wobbly 😅 I took my nephew to see it and I would glance over and he would be reacting and singing along to the music and cuddling with me at the sorta “scary” parts it warmed my heart; and dang it when he realized that he was watching the lion king in theaters he turned to me and said thank you I was like 😭. Like seeing it with him made it actually enjoyable 😅.
I think what they accomplished with this version of The Lion King, visually speaking, is amazing. The rest is really passable in the sense that the original is better. Also to people that hated the changes to Mulan: Remember that the animation was HATED in China so cudos for Disney finally making a more accurate version

@@DerrickAntonio85 King Kong was okay...however I have to give you the side eye on your opinion of the Anakin trilogies lol

Problems with this film:
1. Scar has the same VA in both versions tho
Umbrella Driver chill the fuck out there’s no reason to call ppl names

The thing is James Earl Jones is sounding older. Darth Vader in Rogue One was sounding more gravelly than he did in the original trilogy, so I would not be surprised if he's sounding more gravelly in this compared to the original Lion King voicing.

Animated junk is just as WRONG as real life naked junk. Don't want to see it.
Ok, so they didn't need him again. They didn't recast anyone else, so......
He's sounding older? So what's your point?
Age changes people's voices, that's natural progression. In movies? A good ear can pick it up, especially when an actor is reprising a role decades later.
The Lion King 2019 photorealistic remake was good but it had flaws music not as good as the original and lacked emotion due to photorealistic animation I prefer the original.
You pretty much summed it up.

@Evainoir The movie was great: the animation was amazingly done but it lacked emotion. The songs made me feel nostalgic but they were lacking. I like both.
@Evainoir 😂🤷 it aint that deep
So, 3D animation vs life-like CGI. I get it, I get it.
The lack of facial expressions on the animals made it very hard to emotionally connect. Felt like a dub of a nat geo show
NONE.

It’s a live action version for a reason, if you wanted to see emotion there’s a animated version for a reason, you don’t see any lions smiling or showing emotion

i think it's great.
Chicken Draws Dogs well it’s 100% not live-action & I don’t remember if they ever said it was themselves but someone needs to be slapped.

And guess what, these original movies were also risky which is why, as mentioned in the video, Disney didn't even put their A team to do it.
You risk, and you either succeed or fail. Nobody likes it when you play it safe.
You need to go do your history on Disney, he (they) have never had an original idea in their life... they have stolen every cartoon/animator/animation in their history. If you want the story of good and evil its clear where Disney stand, Don't know where to begin but tell you to start with 'Kimba the white Lion' then you can go back and start at the beginning.
Dude this is all about copyright. It is used to take the the old movies and extend the copyright control.
@@dizzel115 it is the life of the producer +70 years.
I would love to see a remake of Hercules. But I somehow know that casting Meg would be hard.
Erica The Friendly Pisces what about Elizabeth Gillies from Dynasty and the Nick show Victorious? I feel like she would be perfect 👌
Zendaya comes to mind for Meg
Samantha Martinez yes, she’s perfecr
escially since hollywood seeming hates red heads and wants to disapear the only red headed character that hasnt been raced swapped or hair colur swapped i can think of in recent years is aqumans wife
Wilma Perkins Meg is a redhead? Lol Hollywood hates red heads? Wtf are you taking about
That remake statement from Walt Disney was proven to be fabricated, and some original ideas have been put on the back-burner because the teams are being forced to focus on these terrible, 90% CGI, "live action" remakes. Moana, for example, almost wasn't made because Disney wasn't confident that it would turn a profit, and they didn't have the nostalgia factor to do all the marketing for them. It really is tragic because these "live action" remakes suck. They're just lazy cash cows, and people are falling for them.
i always said this, when you do something out of boredom, it always turns better then with intent
Ok i saw that chilli clip, you know what you need to do after tonight.
I lost it at Jon Snow
The emotion in the new one is nonexistent. Even the voice actors just... give up.
How? Not being rude😂 I just wanna know I'm curious
I agree! I was so excited for James Earl Jones to come back and he sounded SO BORED the whole time.
This wasn’t a movie, this wasn’t a remake, this wasn’t a retelling. This was a show off of Disney’s Fancy computer graphics. This was them sayin, “ Look at how realistic these characters look!” Without caring about actually telling a story.
Yeah, Jeremy Irons deserves an Oscar for that voice performance in the original Lion King
Timon and Pumbaa were pretty good though 😁👌
I saw it today in theaters, and several people started laughing hysterically when mufasa died, mostly because of the goofy zoom wide-angle thing around simba's face but anyway it definitely did not pack the same punch
"goofy zoom wide-angle thing"
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolly_zoom ?
You're welcome!
BRO I BURST OUT LAUGHING TOO
Bro you should hold that laugh, even if it’s funny 💀Mufasa died y’all
Okay but even though the remake is kinda wobbly 😅 I took my nephew to see it and I would glance over and he would be reacting and singing along to the music and cuddling with me at the sorta “scary” parts it warmed my heart; and dang it when he realized that he was watching the lion king in theaters he turned to me and said thank you I was like 😭.
Stardust Comet we’re not boycotting Milan because we don’t like the changes bro
Teacher: what are you laughing at?
Me: nothing.
Me in my head:
Roofasa
Okay but why did I laugh so hard
I must say, I didn't hate the new Lion King, it was ok and it made want to rewatch the original (I've been rewatching it for almost two weeks and I have no regrets)... But I was really angry that they took out the scene of Rafiki saying one of the most iconic quotes in history...
@Ecowolf 1995 Things in the past matter
„asante sana squash bana wi wi nugu mi mi apana...“
Ari Aster has taken a toll on you. Almost every reference is about hereditary or midsommar lmaooo
that chilli clip is from euphoria so I’ll be expecting a euphoria lme next video. thank you in advance
3 YEARS TO DO THE STAMPEDE?! BLOODY HELL.
When watching the original lion king I never bothered to listen to "Be Prepared", but I did listen to it during the live action one............
I was so underwhelmed
Bro I kid you not I saw Lebo M and I was like is that the "Aahhh"" man from the opening scene and you did. ALONG WITH THE TITLE. Today I learned, that I can now say that Lebo M is that man.
My husband felt like he was watching national geographic but i didnt 😂
Based off a classic and ripped off Kimba the White Lion.
which was based off the real life story of some random lion no one heard about until a talking parrot had a chat with Shakespeare's writers.
at some point someone goes back in time and makes sure that a lion ends up with the exact copy of this story to complete the circle. ;D
THANK. YOU.
The only thing I really liked about this remake was that one comment on a woodpecker and timone singing “be our guest” and that’s pretty much it
i kept crying when i watched the new lion king in the theater and the girl next to me kept looking over at me concerned
