His cymbal work is amazing through out the whole song. Check out his other videos.. He plays funk, jazz, latin, blues.. all kinds of stuff. Hes definitely the most versatile drummer around. Hes pretty solid. I love Roddy.
i've met him. he's a nice guy. Death Metal musicians are very approachable dude. Very few of them act like rock stars and think they're above you. Most of them love meeting their fans and just hanging out.
No, because watching and hearing it like this makes you really appreciate the talent that drummers like Derek have. You're going to tell me you don't enjoy watching this amazing drumming???
Many people don't understand how rare this level of metal playing was before RUclips and Korean child prodigies. These modern players are truly standing on the shoulders of giants.
I love Derek Roddy. He's the funniest drummer to see live, because it looks like he's just sitting at the drum kit and not doing anything, yet there is the most glorious wall of noise emanating from his vicinity.
Hey, thanks for the reply. Ive been playing at about 200-210 for about 4/5months i think? Maybe a bit longer? the pain goes after the 4 days pretty much. I normally play for about 2-2n half hours with breaks. I think i overdone it abit in that session, i normally get the pain but no where near as bad as it was when i commented 5 days ago.
@Winonarydertube your initial comment was a little vague, are you disputing that slipknot is nu-metal? because it has all of the characteristics of nu-metal, down tuned guitars, highly tuned drumkits, a DJ, rap styled vocals (though i admit there isnt as much in slipknots music as in korn or limp bizkit)
flies, and secondly, this is in the extreme metal genre and niche market, therefore yes, it is impressive, because, it's difficult, it shows skill, and all fans of extreme metal, not just drummers, can watch this video and enjoy it as this style of drumming is a prominant feature in this genre of music.
First off, let me tell you people something... triggers don't make you drum faster for thoughs that think they do. They simply give a constant distinct sound which is necessary for live shows, to be heard.. thats it. You still have to hit the head of the drum the same way without using triggers.
No he is using the slide method which is almost like heel-toe but a bit different, and a video i also saw of him is that he plays doubles with his toes, 2 right 2 left and when he builds up speed it sounds really fast, faster than the original right left right left pattern...
Being a drummer I can appreciate the time that's gone into learning to play something like this, the dedication to getting your feet moving that fast etc. As a music lover however this is really not my cup of tea!
he is but i think hist wrists are still moving a little, it helps a bit, because wrists give more power so you can get a harder and faster rebound for faster blasts
he makes it look soo easy, my favorite drummer, im gonna somehow download all his drumming vids to my ipod so i can listen to them while walking down the streets haha
@GGov86 no sir, you are not tripping. i saw it too, its cuz he has heel-toe pedals. so he uses both right beaters then hits one left and repeats. very efficient
@Kankuro1138 Tim Yeung is known as one of the fastest drummers in metal. In 2006, Tim hit 872 bass drum hits in one minute at a World's Fastest Drummer competition, which earned him the Fastest Feet Title for that event, though not the world record, which clocked in at 1407 hits in one minute, held by Tim Waterson who was using doubles, as opposed to single strokes. this is a quote from wikipedia. maybe you should do some research!!
Around 06-07 I downloaded this video off limewire and used to watch it on a sansa video mp3 player 😂😂 Still some of the best extreme drumming out there
@Rezurrektion Because his music isn't commercial? It's really not that hard, A7X makes music for mass consumption and people aren't very interested in death metal. Roddy is really only one of several unknown masters of death metal drumming.
Ye exactly... and he uses a slide method. It basically a up and down motion with his feet, he gives the first hit with his toe and the second with his heel... It works best with doubles, so he completes a slide on each foot, doing rapidly so he increases his speed. He explains all of it on 1 of his vids :P
Morgan Agren with Fredrik Thordendal:the most extreme concept and the most extreme quality at the same time.Really outstanding metal drumming (with jazz and progressive influences, but definitely metal drumming).Regards!.
he's probably doing a double step technique, which is when you slide your foot up and down (more like back and forth) to achieve double hits on the bass drum, which would make his legs look like they're moving slower than he's hitting the pedal.
no. in this video he's using flatfoot. he lifts his foot up and hits with his toes. like that twitch that your leg does when it bounces up and down. all single strokes
14 years and I still come back to this. It’s just mind blowing
16 years later and still warms my heart

We need more drummers like this in the world, tooo many guitar palyers
wow... derek plays with such incredible precision and control. his dexterity in both hands and feet is just amazing. excellent drummer!
His cymbal work is amazing through out the whole song. Check out his other videos.. He plays funk, jazz, latin, blues.. all kinds of stuff. Hes definitely the most versatile drummer around. Hes pretty solid. I love Roddy.

@@michalliusk 'tis now 2020 and i really had to search hard to find this again lol LOVE it
This has to be one of the best drum solos I have ever heard. Pure talent. My favorite death metal drum solo thus far.
He's one of my favorite drummer because most fast metal drummers have NO rhythm and just focus on speed. This guy definitely has rhythm.
Still returning to this….17 years..
Okay, I ain't gonna lie.... 1:23-1:42.....Is it me or does that beat make you bob your head.... Like a sick hop hop type beat... SMH
Yes
Nice use of SMH... I've never seen that used in a positive way lol
No, because watching and hearing it like this makes you really appreciate the talent that drummers like Derek have. You're going to tell me you don't enjoy watching this amazing drumming???
1:20 he starts conducting a symphony.
king of all kings in drums
Superbe! J'aime that sound !

He is very versatile. He breaks and plays the kicks. That's truly tough. Respect Sir. 🙏

correct me if i'm wrong but i believe he plays bostic flat foot. George Kolias does swivels

Very Much Respect 2 Derek Roddy:-). He was Amazing At Drumtek in 2010:-).
This guy is not given enough credit. Today everyone talks about Dominator
this is not human its beyond godlike!
SWEET! His left wrist work on some of the blasts is insane.
You mean the evolution of the blast beat? Should I get that? Looks pretty good.
I would love to see this in HD!
That build up from blasting to completely annihilating my face with that cymbal solo starting at 1:21 is not human…🤯

Derek Roddy and Eric Moore have made me Start learning Drums, I know I'll probably NEVER be as good as this But I will try!
Is it normal to get pretty bad wrist pain when you,ve been blasting during drum practice and for about 4 days after???
No he is using the slide method which is almost like heel-toe but a bit different, and a video i also saw of him is that he plays doubles with his toes, 2 right 2 left and when he builds up speed it sounds really fast, faster than the original right left right left pattern...
@slickvick456 what do you think is the most painful way to die then? i would like to know wat you think.
@riiukun u mean the part of 00:00 till 03:02? :D
is derek roddy the master of blast beat?
i just want a straight answer.
im watcing his legs, and the movement doesnt necessarily match up with single strokes when he go faster, is he using heel toe?
this speed is so constant! i dont even hear any full breaks. i like. i like it alott!
thats I N S A N E ! how you practice your hands speed and legs speed? please give me tips?
Being a drummer I can appreciate the time that's gone into learning to play something like this, the dedication to getting your feet moving that fast etc. As a music lover however this is really not my cup of tea!
That was so awesome!
what kinda ride is that?!?!?! love the strong sound even when he's not hitting the bell
love the way his toms sound, very good drummer, very good.
reckon they were double strokes on the bass drum?? me thinks so....insane
Realmente espectacular...!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he is but i think hist wrists are still moving a little, it helps a bit, because wrists give more power so you can get a harder and faster rebound for faster blasts
man you break the godamn drumkit.... simply amazing!!!!!!!!!!1

@jimm01 what do you listen to?
Your kit sounds so awesome
Really good sounding recording. 5 stars.
how did he got his hands to go soo fast, im trying to blast but im not sure how to get faster
@xSystemofaDillonx He's actually playing along to a song from his (former?) band Hate Eternal.
Around 06-07 I downloaded this video off limewire and used to watch it on a sansa video mp3 player 😂😂
Still some of the best extreme drumming out there
derek is a true inspiration for me to get better at the double bass:)

Is he using the heal toe technique on the pedals?
Cuando pequeño soñaba con tocar así, aun lo sigo intentando ❤️🥁
i went to his drum clinic a couple days ago hes freakin awsome. Also hes a really nice guy i talked to him for like 10 minutes before had.
dude this guy is amazing Hate Eternal not only has an amazing vocalist or amazing guitarists' but they also have a fuckin' mind blowing drummer!
What's the hihat?It sounds awesome.

Thats from ' Beyond Redemption ' by Hate Eternal :)
he's probably doing a double step technique, which is when you slide your foot up and down (more like back and forth) to achieve double hits on the bass drum, which would make his legs look like they're moving slower than he's hitting the pedal.
its more than speed with roddy. he mixes speed and technical and hes very good at it. amazing drummer
Is he playing second finger fulcrum
Is this in a song or doesn't sound like one because I would like to know thx :D
what about pete sandoval from morbid angel and vitek (rip) from decapitated?
Watched it like 20 times
Still love it
does that hurt your legs and arms or are you used to it
im confused... hows he not playin them? ive seen him live & seen him play... just wondering
Am I just seeing things, or is his leg pattern RRLRRLRRLRRLRRL for the double bass part starting at around 0:34?
no. in this video he's using flatfoot. he lifts his foot up and hits with his toes. like that twitch that your leg does when it bounces up and down. all single strokes
joey jordison who? is he the drummer of jonas brothers?
Brady Snare?
OMG.....that's some super human shit there! My mouth hung open the whole time, lol.
A master for sure.
