It felt like SJ turned it up toward the end of the season and I do think the chemistry started to set in. The record doesn't show it much, but you could feel it in the way they were playing. I went from being angry at this team early in the season to just feeling bad for them through the middle stretch then slightly encouraged before games were cancelled. Let's hope they make the most of this group of players. There are some great players here who don't need Pavelski to shine. The loss of Pavelski was a huge hit, but got to get over that and this team can do it.

Sharks have always been a really good team with a lot of talent. The 2016 Cup run vs the Penguins was their golden year. Drum roll... And then came EK65. Extremely awesome player, but Doug sold out the champion team we had for a VERY overpaid single player. Throw in Jones loosing all of his aggressiveness and being showed up by a backup goalie.... It's going to be a tough next few years. But hey anything is possible. Congrats to the Capitals and Blues.

Wilson is the problem. He wants players that "play the right way" like EK65. That's why he promised EK65 the moon if he came to the Sharks, and that's what Wilson gave him. EK65 has great talent for the power play and offense, but he, like Burns, is terrible when 5 on 5. The Sharks need to get a GM that is experienced in dealing with a difficult cap situation and is not afraid to start over again. The team needs to stop "playing the right way" and get a lot tougher.

The problem is with the guys in the room, I wouldn't think that adding a middling top 6 RW FA will suddenly make us a contender. We couldn't win with forward depth up the ass when Donskoi, Pavs, and Nyquist were here. He would be wise to wait and see. The flattened cap is also going to make it hard to extend Meier and Hertl, I wonder what their future is with SJ.

San Jose will have a long rebuilding process because of getting old, and the Karlsson trade but they still have a good scouting system which will help. This is great news for the rest of the division to take advantage of this period. Anaheim & Los Angeles will rebuild quicker than the 🦈 Sharks. Because Anaheim is doing it on the fly and Los Angeles has been in it already for two years. VGK is the big winner since they have their old coach too.

For those that say rebuild rebuild rebuild. Doug Wilson is NOT MOVING ANYONE. And here's a trend here
Whenever the Sharks miss the playoffs they get farther and farther into the playoffs eventually to a Stanley Cup victory.
The last time San Jose missed the playoffs they got as far as the Cup Final losing to Pittsburgh in six. In 2020-21 after missing the playoffs San Jose will not only make the Cup Final but they will WIN IT ALL for Joe Thornton and all those poor players and fans who have been wanting the Stanley Cup to go to the Bay Area for so long. There is still the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs, BUT the words franchise rebuild have NO MEANING TO ME, and they NEVER WILL.

Couple things. First, excluding the 48 game 12/13 season, there are 5 worse seasons for points in their history. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but still. Second, everything DW has said in the last 4 months seems to indicate that he believes this team is close to contending and really just needed a different voice in the room than PDB, and maybe some players who execute a little better. For fans like me who have been watching this team for over 25 years, this approach has induced us to drink heavily. We have a VERY poor draft history between 2012 and 2016, which now is about when those guys should be just entering or excelling in the league. Because we bombed those draft years (Hertl, Tierney, Meier, and Labanc being the only true successes) there is a combined total of 7 players with over 100 games in the NHL. Which isn't bad, until you realize that 1 of those 7 is Mirco Mueller who couldn't even stay in the line up in Jersey the last 2 years, and that 7 runs in comparison to the 35 draft picks we've had. Hell, of the 35 picks only 12 have 10 or more games in the NHL. That's atrocious. Credit where credit is due, DW and Co has done well to offset the draft failings with Europe free agent signings.
And for those curious, go look at the NHL draft results for 2015 when the Sharks got highly touted (and soon to be highly paid) Timo Meier at #9 overall. Notice the plethora of talent taken from 10th through 30th that year. Ouch...
