It all started in 1960 when a group of Vancouver businessmen attempted to hunt for a location suitable for the Winter Olympics. Today, Whistler Blackcomb is one of the most well-known skiing and riding destinations in the world - and for a good reason. Listen to the veterans of the famous winter resort like Jim McConkey and Hugh Smythe describe the early days of steep verticals and deep powder.
Though the resort experienced abrupt financial hardship due to warm weather conditions early on, eventually, it was full speed ahead with the birth of the Whistler vs. Blackcomb rivalry. I think this is AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! Skied there when the dump was pretty much not to distant with my PaPa!.... He brought this Eastern Ontario kid there when I was young in the 70's and I will never EVER loose that spirit my DAD gave me to stare up at that MOUNTAIN and him saying...."your mountain kiddo".... Life is but one moment away from eternal silence...don't miss it guys....go for it!
My wife gave a group of South Africans ski lessons at Whistler in the winter of 1980/81 while I explored the heights and steep runs.
this place is nuts... kicked my ass it did. couldnt ride 60% of the Mountains...but im going back next year for more.

What a phenomenal history Whistler has. It's pretty crazy that they were anti-snowboarding in the beginning considering their wild, hippie past.
This is place has an amazing history and watching this proves why its the biggest and the best in North America. I have so much motivation to strap into my board right now

Pow day wait times are now officially bonkers. Whistler was amazing late 1990's, Intrawest was building high speed lifts, opening new terrain, new lodges, the mountains merged in 1997, parking & access was not insane. Then came the Olympics, 2013-14 expansion plans, Renaissance project, sale to Vail, Epic pass, Covid, RIP.

Whistler is good and bad. They conveniently forgot to mention the lack of snow for the 2010 Olympics. The endless stream of dump trucks hauling snow hundreds of kilometers away from Manning Park so they could have snow to ski on.
It can be amazing or bust depending on the snowfall.

The key words: WAS AWESOME. Now corporate greed has taken over. Expensive as 🤬. Accommodation, food, lift costs are ridiculously high. Wages of course suck and the locals are struggling.

No doubt that WB is a great skiing resort and a magic white mountain....Unfortunately got overcrowded by very selfish snowboarders......this new generation is the I DGAF about you! They just ruined these mountains' great vibe! I still miss this mountain, this village......

I was stoked and proud of the US snowboard team when they had tested one and found weed in his system. They said that weed in your system is a performance enhancing drug and would not allow it. The US team said if you think that and that is your rule screw it we will not be coming to the Olympics! The Olympic authorities said OK it will not disallow you from competing. They went and kicked ass. LMAO What people think snowboarding and weed are not together? You can not drink and snowboard the way you do best! It is strictly the GREEN people. It aint skiing nonsense like rollerblading! I feel it my duty to make a high speed hard carve spraying a skier in in the pow with a yard sale. I yell yard sale get out of the powder. When I see a guy rollerblading on the beach boardwalk I ride by on my tandem bike nudge him all sweaty into the sand tumbling I keep riding point back at him and yell look at that big sand crab. Everyone laughs.

whistler sucks, no spirit anymore, just fancy commercial possy bubble for rich and hip. Lots of restrictions. Queues for lifts. Almost every Alps resort in EU has better maintained slopes than whistler without waiting. Yeah Pow is perfect there but day after dumping You need snowcat or heli to find out some. I admit they have better commercials than others. that is why you want to go there. There is lots of reasons why i won´t spend my money there anymore. No more.
