@@paulwatt8634 For sure New Zealand also counts. Eaglecrest ski area by Juneau Alaska is also on an island. Though Japan has more active skiers/riders than the entire population of NZ, so the vast majority of people skiing on islands in the Pacific are found in Japan.
Spent every chance I had to go Skiing here in the 90s. Man the stories! The apre ski! Family, loggers, hippies, extreme junkies. Places like this are where it's at. Beats industrial skiing in every category period.
I've never been to Mt Cain but the excellent production of this video gives such a feel of what this great community must be like. A little oasis from the craziness of the modern world.
I grew up in Holberg, a tiny logging village a few hours from Mt Cain, it's where I learned to Ski in the 80's then when snowboarding took off I was one of the few people snowboarding up there..at 1st.. I have hiked to the top many times , deep powder and no one else around. It was awesome (haven't been back in 20 years) it made it into a few magazines in the 90's and became "crowded" after that... up until then I had seen at most 26 people on the slopes (2 school ski trips showed up the same day my school and one from Woss) .The mountain holds a special place in my heart..more so now that I am stuck in the prairies and the nearest mountain is 4 - 5 hours away. Thank you for the video it made me want to go back and see how much it changed..if at all :P
I remember a few years ago when I was in an outdoors leadership class called Global ROAMS we rented out the entire lodge thing. that was so epic. some of the best days of my life.
Holy shit I can’t believe that place is still there. I skied in 1983 when I was working in Port Alice. It seemed antiquated then I can only imagine now. The road in was as much of a challenge as finding the place. What a great film thanks. It brought back sone great memories from that winter up island.
I’m a snowboarder but damn there is no way to not appreciate the quality of the content out out ! Sick video and probably the only ski video I watched till the end 🔥🔥🔥
Very nice production. I am a documentary producer and professional skier in the past and can learn a lot from your style and approach. Lot of dynamics and well completed interaction. Looking at your film I just want to be there. I just want to be a part of it! What could be better? To finish this film with gathering as you did at the beginning...... campfire.... glass of beer and nice conversation.....a completion of the perfect day.
I might not be able to fly at the moment but the best thing about my life here in Croatia is I can jump in my car and drive over to Austria, Switzerland or the Italian Alps, all in under 3 hours. If I cant get to these places I will have to ski in Croatia. But as soon as things are back to normal Mt Cain looks very interesting. I live to Ski.
I haven't skied in decades and not often when I did but watching this put a smile on my face. It's an exhilarating sport you can do by yourself or with friends and have a great time being outdoors and challenging yourself in nature.
Its good to see Cain is doing good. I spent my whole childhood up this mountain. Staying in the bus park in the old Blue Bird. Cain brings some many good memories back and I'd love to go up again.
Nice film. This is a couple hours from my parents place and the film feels like you got the character of the place. Rustic and awesome full of super people.
I live on Vancouver island and i never heard of this place, until this video! I've always been skiing at mount Washington the well known ski resort. This is awesome
Its not really worth the extra drive to mt cain but if your looking for something more adventure like then its a good trip. Be careful though there are no medics roaming around on snowmobiles like mt washington
LOL, I know about the hurricane of rain. I only managed to make the trip up there once. We knew a storm system was blowing in so we were hoping for something epic. Unfortunately it warmed up just a little too much. We'd planned to camp, but luckily the hostel was pretty much empty, so we got to stay there for a hearty meal and a place to crash. Good bunch of people though! Had some slushy turns the next day, and unfortunately we had to leave. That was probably about 20 years ago. Looks the same, except a bit busier in this video, probably due to the snow instead of the rain!
I drive up-Island every fall to dive and I've noticed the signs for Mt Cain, but had no clue what it was. Loved the segment with the kids... "Have fun and hit lots of jumps" is still my rule, but at 67, the jumps are limited to 6" or less! ;-)

What a great Shortmovie Guys! I was spellbound from minute 1 to 15. Clean crispy scenes, fantastic droneshots. Realy awesome camera work and very likeable Ski Dudes. Thumbs up² and best regards from Austria
I've been snowboarding for more than a decade, and I used to be skiing back in the days, but this video got me boiling my blood to re-start skiing again.
I like this short movie. Didn't see any helicopter at all ? No heli-skiing over there in Cain ? No, of course not. These guys just climb up with their skis attached to their backpack before they begin skiing down the slopes. Great attitude. Nice spot: mount Cain. Makes me a bit jealous . Enjoy and thanks for sharing.
A couple years ago, I had to drop out of a ski trip we planned that included Mt. Cain. My buddies of course went on without me. I was already bummed I couldn't go, but when they described the ferry to Mt. Cain and reported that the skiing experience there was the highlight of all the ski areas they visited, I was REALLY bummed..
If the place where I live had this much snow, it would be the best place in the world to ski 😂, really, tree skiing, skiing in very inclined runs, skiing from the top of a mountain to a frozen river, an amazing place to do tricks on rocks, etc

Unpretentious and perfect, including the photography. And the audio.
lmao, it's super pretentious. "not many people get to ski on an island in the pacific ocean" alright I guess Japan and New Zealand don't count then
@@derekschinke2512 no they fuckin don't
I was thinking the same thing easily the best video I've ever seen on youtube
Love the giant bag of BC bud on the table at 8:40
Good eyes, I missed it. But, that's definitely not a big bag for BC. 2 ounces at best. Nothing under a QP counts as a big bag up here. 😎
When a small community loves skiing like this...really special things happen...it was a treat just to watch how much fun everyone was having.
"First rule of Wolf Pack is have fun. Second rule is hit lots of jumps."
(Wolf Pack is their ski school/team, from what I understand)
"yep, it was ice" as my jaw is on the floor. what a beautiful line

@@Elliott_Elliott Technically its a continent and not an island.;-)
If you want a crap ton of snow, that's the place all right.
The way these dudes had a blast with those kids was awesome! Hell yeah!
My favorite part of the video is these pro sponsored skiers just hanging with little kids having fun.

Born and raised in Bellingham and growing up skiing at Mt. Baker, Mt. Cain has been on my bucket list for a long time. Some day the boarder will open!
Looks like awesome snow and badass terrain. Cinematography and production was excellent. Great place. Simplicity is beautiful

Love Mt.Cain, but if you want to ski the terrain you see in the film, you must have all your avy gear and the knowledge as well.
