@1:57 - that is the most CANADIAN scene ever. Guy using a hockey stick to sauce a ball for his dogs in the parking lot of a ski resort. What a beauty, eh?
"Not many people get to ski on islands in the Pacific Ocean"
Japanese ski industry: Am I a joke to you?
I think New Zealand might also count!
@@paulwatt8634 For sure New Zealand also counts. Eaglecrest ski area by Juneau Alaska is also on an island. Though Japan has more active skiers/riders than the entire population of NZ, so the vast majority of people skiing on islands in the Pacific are found in Japan.
There are even Ski resorts in Australia 🤙
@@Elliott_Elliott Technically its a continent and not an island.;-)
If you want a crap ton of snow, that's the place all right.
"yep, it was ice" as my jaw is on the floor. what a beautiful line
When a small community loves skiing like this...really special things happen...it was a treat just to watch how much fun everyone was having.
"First rule of Wolf Pack is have fun. Second rule is hit lots of jumps."
(Wolf Pack is their ski school/team, from what I understand)
The way these dudes had a blast with those kids was awesome! Hell yeah!
My favorite part of the video is these pro sponsored skiers just hanging with little kids having fun.
I just did 15 minutes of PT for my knee watching this. Went by like i wasn’t even pushing. Thanks for the motivation!!
Unpretentious and perfect, including the photography. And the audio.
lmao, it's super pretentious. "not many people get to ski on an island in the pacific ocean" alright I guess Japan and New Zealand don't count then
@@derekschinke2512 no they fuckin don't
I was thinking the same thing easily the best video I've ever seen on youtube
Skied Cain 20 years ago. It looks like it hasn’t changed.
Spent every chance I had to go Skiing here in the 90s. Man the stories! The apre ski! Family, loggers, hippies, extreme junkies. Places like this are where it's at. Beats industrial skiing in every category period.
Looks like awesome snow and badass terrain. Cinematography and production was excellent. Great place. Simplicity is beautiful
I don't know if I've seen a gnarlier mountain. Absolute insane.
The love of playing in the snow is true to my heart as it is with those in this film ❤️
Lmao that guy at 8:40 with a huge bag of weed 😂😂
Its good to see Cain is doing good. I spent my whole childhood up this mountain. Staying in the bus park in the old Blue Bird. Cain brings some many good memories back and I'd love to go up again.
Born and raised in Bellingham and growing up skiing at Mt. Baker, Mt. Cain has been on my bucket list for a long time. Some day the boarder will open!
I haven't skied in decades and not often when I did but watching this put a smile on my face. It's an exhilarating sport you can do by yourself or with friends and have a great time being outdoors and challenging yourself in nature.
This makes me really happy to live on the Island. Great film and depiction of the mountain. Cant wait to get up there again!
I’m a snowboarder but damn there is no way to not appreciate the quality of the content out out ! Sick video and probably the only ski video I watched till the end 🔥🔥🔥
Love those small and cosy resorts! Great film!
I might not be able to fly at the moment but the best thing about my life here in Croatia is I can jump in my car and drive over to Austria, Switzerland or the Italian Alps, all in under 3 hours. If I cant get to these places I will have to ski in Croatia. But as soon as things are back to normal Mt Cain looks very interesting. I live to Ski.
Why not Slovenia as well?
I didn't know how much I needed to see this until I saw it.
I remember a few years ago when I was in an outdoors leadership class called Global ROAMS we rented out the entire lodge thing. that was so epic. some of the best days of my life.
24" of fresh powder almost any ski mt is going to look perfect. That day, that place looks perfect!!
Love Mt.Cain, but if you want to ski the terrain you see in the film, you must have all your avy gear and the knowledge as well.
I bet you drive in your car by yourself with your mask on.
@@BrettMcNary it's because it's all out of bounds and not patrolled. Aaaand there is a risk of avys back there.
its all good man, theres hardly any avy danger on the coast.
@@GumpterCrayon O Really? That explains the lack of tracks and skintrack. ;)
@@dgreenbluet Right, thats why tomorrows conditions are forecasted Moderate. btw if you ever took you AST1 they will teach you right off the bat that moderate means there is decent chance of avy. Thank god im not riding the backcountry with you. Also you might wanna stop giving avy advice on the internet, cause ppl actually die from this stuff.
Holy shit I can’t believe that place is still there. I skied in 1983 when I was working in Port Alice. It seemed antiquated then I can only imagine now. The road in was as much of a challenge as finding the place. What a great film thanks. It brought back sone great memories from that winter up island.
This was great. I really love my growing up during the rustic era of skiing. Great to see that some places still exist.
Immaculate filming, such an amazing feeling this video gave me, as someone who loves to ski “off course” I will be visiting this mountain
Goosebumps from 9.20, sick skiing and sick song
Man those kids can shred! I NEED TO LIVE HERE! Reminds me of my days in Leadville.
This was fantastic. Thanks for making this video I hope to return some day in the near future
I remember going to Mt.Cain during my school program Take a Hike. What an experience
This is such a great video. That ski area is absolutely epic. Thanks for sharing your story.
Awesome video. Music is a perfect match. Makes me miss BC.
Perfect ! It captured the vibe of the place, photography, music, everything is just perfect !
Nice film. This is a couple hours from my parents place and the film feels like you got the character of the place. Rustic and awesome full of super people.
What an amazing place! Having grown up in the 60s and 70s skiing....yes that’s exactly how my area in upstate NY is....very cool!
This is gunna blow up for shure
Been Waiting this segment for some time now. Jut total and utter FKN Squad Goals right here plus a really great story about a local ski hill. Thank you Matchstick ✨🇨🇦🏔🔭❄️🎿💖🤘
I grew up in Holberg, a tiny logging village a few hours from Mt Cain, it's where I learned to Ski in the 80's then when snowboarding took off I was one of the few people snowboarding up there..at 1st.. I have hiked to the top many times , deep powder and no one else around. It was awesome (haven't been back in 20 years) it made it into a few magazines in the 90's and became "crowded" after that... up until then I had seen at most 26 people on the slopes (2 school ski trips showed up the same day my school and one from Woss) .The mountain holds a special place in my heart..more so now that I am stuck in the prairies and the nearest mountain is 4 - 5 hours away.
Thank you for the video it made me want to go back and see how much it changed..if at all :P
best segment from any ski segment for a long time. Kick ass all involved.
HOOOOOOOOOOJ!!!!
The irony is this might signal the end of the Mt Cain we know.
Um, yeah. The internet has ruined about a million places on planet earth by videos like this, along with instagram tourism.
@@dunestunes1 True, but the current china virus has slowed down over-tourism so Mt. Cain will probably preserve it's innocence for a while longer.
@@christianwestling2019 Also, Mt Cain is always going to be hard to get to
Epic pass will ruin Mt Cain.
@Bird Dawg Mount Cain road will ruin your truck.
The road leading into that place is spectacular.
Wow, haven't seen so powerfull energy / video for a while ! Love it!
This spot is gonna blow up this year thanks because of Huck Yeah. And I'm most keen on checking it out at some point.
Actually, the pandemic will keep it from "blowing up". At least for this year. Maybe next year.
What an awesome place. Thanks for the insights into the great landscape and the crazy people. Ein toller Film DANKE
people are so small, but their hearts can be bigger than everything.
My first trip was a couple of winters ago, snowfall accumulation mid week (closed) was 6'. Great day!!!!
This was one of the best ski videos I’ve ever seen. Epic
Love the giant bag of BC bud on the table at 8:40
I live on Vancouver island and i never heard of this place, until this video! I've always been skiing at mount Washington the well known ski resort. This is awesome
Its not really worth the extra drive to mt cain but if your looking for something more adventure like then its a good trip. Be careful though there are no medics roaming around on snowmobiles like mt washington
Just soooooo perfect!!! i love it!! than you x 10000
Just a great film, got this place on my bucket list now! Amazed at how dry the snow looks for Van Island :)
Oh man, this was good, really good.
Amazing place! Actually one of my favorite resorts are Arola and Evolene in Switzerland. Very small but with very few people, amazing views and awesome freeride. Verbier is really close but with lots of people competing for fresh tracks... Small resorts are the best.
That was dope. True soul skiing.
This is probably the best 15 minutes on youtube. So calming and chilled out.
Nice job matchstick. Great job catching the vibe and it's nice to see Neil's still got it 👌
So refreshing. Chill vibe. Good music. Ice cold.
Brings back many sweet memories!
Fifteen awesome years of patrolling this place!
What a great Shortmovie Guys! I was spellbound from minute 1 to 15.
Clean crispy scenes, fantastic droneshots.
Realy awesome camera work and very likeable Ski Dudes.
Thumbs up² and best regards from Austria
Really loved this video. Just people and their passion.
FINALLY....a great ski film.
Truly incredible
Wow 😍 what a video. I am so jelaous. Really enjoyed. Could watch this for hours
Props to MSP. This is lit 🔥
Vancouver island has some of the best riding i have ever experienced.
Unreal, thanks.
Wow! Excellent!
Nice! Reminds me of Grand Targhee and Mad River Glen; where folks go to ski, not pose.
Awesome!
what am amazing place i love the mountains i want to move back to bc so badly to live life in the mountains
Love it great video!!!
Now that I've seen this, I can't unsee and now I must go to Cain.
LOL, I know about the hurricane of rain. I only managed to make the trip up there once. We knew a storm system was blowing in so we were hoping for something epic. Unfortunately it warmed up just a little too much. We'd planned to camp, but luckily the hostel was pretty much empty, so we got to stay there for a hearty meal and a place to crash. Good bunch of people though! Had some slushy turns the next day, and unfortunately we had to leave. That was probably about 20 years ago. Looks the same, except a bit busier in this video, probably due to the snow instead of the rain!
I'm going to be dreaming of this magical place tonight. 🥰
I've been snowboarding for more than a decade, and I used to be skiing back in the days, but this video got me boiling my blood to re-start skiing again.
Incredible
Very nice production. I am a documentary producer and professional skier in the past and can learn a lot from your style and approach. Lot of dynamics and well completed interaction. Looking at your film I just want to be there. I just want to be a part of it! What could be better? To finish this film with gathering as you did at the beginning...... campfire.... glass of beer and nice conversation.....a completion of the perfect day.
Yesssssss. Maybe not this year due to covid, but I'll make my way over from the mainland at some point.
02:25. Wow. Yeah, baby. Jimi 🎸 is back from the dead!!!
😂😂😂
14:43 nice Chamonix ski poles :) Nice ski video!
I truly wish i had the skills to ski like this, hopefully one day i will be able to
Pure, unadulterated stoke with your buds! Damn, I love Canadians!
Insane!!
best ski video ive seen in awhile great job
Great movie!! thanks
I liked everything about this. Awesome vid of an awesome looking place.
Beautiful production. Thank you
Woooow it's amazing
Looks superb. A bit like club ski fields in New Zealand but more trees and fancy T-bar lifts! (We have nutcrackers).
9:30 no music cred. found it, "Capre - Give"
Unreal track. Such a mellow vibe compared to the clear intensity of the shots
Love you! Been searching for this song!!!!
Thank you for finding this!! love this
Thank you!
Thank you bud 🤘🏼
Very well done- fun story and edit :)
Masterpiece
A couple years ago, I had to drop out of a ski trip we planned that included Mt. Cain. My buddies of course went on without me. I was already bummed I couldn't go, but when they described the ferry to Mt. Cain and reported that the skiing experience there was the highlight of all the ski areas they visited, I was REALLY bummed..
I’m heading there this winter! Can’t wait been waiting for this trip for 5 years.
Cain is a beauty. Grew up a few hrs away below mt washington
Amazing 🤩
BEAUTIFUL 🤩
So good!
I'm going there when I'm 40 years younger.
