Great advice. When I remember to do this (pause at the top of the backswing), my ball striking is much more consistent. Like you say, it's like it gives your body time to rotate and/or get in synch.
I always hit the ball better with a slight pause at the top. Too me this is my biggest flaw of my swing, when I rush the downswing and end up hitting heal shots with my driver or horribly inconsistent shots with my irons. I need to have that slight pause, I think it’s because it allows my body to set itself up for the downswing for the proper sequence. Brilliant Johnathan, thank you!
I played today using this technique. I hit the ball great today. The delay gave me a split second longer to get my hips started before my arms. No bad shots except maybe too much hook on a few shots
This is me 100%.. after being a slicer in the past Ive been hitting hooks and pulls since starting golf again after a few years off with injuries. Been trying to open the face, swing out to in and nothing seems to change the hooking. Will try this out today. Thanks
Just started doing this 2 weeks ago and I've hit it at least one club further than normal..... Hit some of the best drives and irons I've ever hit. Been watching your videos for a while, top class buddy 🏌️
Great video as ever, thank you Jonathan. Can you recommend a practice session using this technique e.g. 7 Freezer Drill shots followed by 2 normal shots, or literally hit 50 consecutive shots using the drill?
Will try this tip Jonathan. Wondering if I can rotate very quickly from a static position? At 60 yrs old, I often imagine my downswing as a ricochet off the top of my backswing.
I wasn't brave enough to try freezers last time at the range but I did try to feel a brief pause at the top and it was very impressive. And I started out the session with the drill, where you leave a decent gap between the ball and club at set up. One of those sessions where when you leave you wish you could go straight out and play 18!
When l look at Rory’s first part of downswing it looks as if he’s pushing the arc of his swing well back behind him in order to have a longer path before hitting the ball which translates in higher club speed and complete weight transfer at impact = huge lag

Brilliant advice, I think it helps with the whip effect as well.
