Well the animal shown that steals coins is a possum (note: I see them all the time where I live). Maybe it has a secret related to why that's the animal stealing? It's not an animal known for representing theft to my knowledge.
Raccoons fit better with that motif considering their little face masks.
And in "Dora the Explorer", a fox named Swiper steals stuff.

That could be possible, but we don't really know if Riley is a minor. The demon, Beelzebub usually targets children and the Hameln is reffering to the story where a talented musician drove away rats with their music but when they didn't get paid they instead played their music to abduct children or smth.
