For the second option (the copycat), a lot of killers IRL copycatted others for various reasons. One of these reasons is simple - it's easier to copy someone else than bother to think up a different MO yourself. It also makes it likely the cops (and/or media) will think it's the OG Killer at work again (in this video game, the main cop doesn't think this but the news seems to). It's also possible that our new killer could be inspired by John's killing spree, which is why he models his own after it. For example: the Tylenol murders of Chicago had multiple copycat cases, most of which killed via poisoning other painkilling products to get insurance money (because being killed by an unknown serial poisoner would be considered "accidental death" in Chicagoland at the time). The Copycats were all caught for that one, but the OG Killer never was.
I find it funny how you based most of the story on that supposed copycat, because it is not the copycat you're playing as. The masked killer you take control of is the original John Wade. In the latest update of the demo I tried to make that more clear. I did not anticipate at all that people would not expect him to be the original killer, my apoligies. Really liking the way you explain the story! Very fun and generous to listen to. The story may change however when the final game drops. Cheers!

The Detective also seems to be confused of how could this be John Wade. It will be a twist if the detective and John Wade will work together in the final act against the copycat and Madison's father.
Nah I think the mask the copycat wore was a different one. John always kept his mask with him,he kept himself unmasked but still kept it with him. Pale Grin is already popular, so it's possible that the copycat just bought a Pale Grin mask for himself though and I don't think the detective and Madison's dad would go against each other not that much at least. Then the killer says “Look me in the eyes” and then he’s about to pull the trigger, when from the shadows a sword is stabbed through the new killer and he drops then shotgun and is levitated in mid air before being thrown off, dead. Then real John Wade appears from the shadows AND THEN the detective comes out of nowhere and points a gun at John Wade. Then idk.
