In push pull the power tubes cancel out harmonics on each other,The best way to change the sound output from that amp is rolling different 12**7 tubes.generally speaking, if you use a taller plate driver tube, you'd normally get a fuller, richer and an extension on the highs.using a shorter plate tubes, you will get a more compressed sound..
Consider a REL sub to partner with your tube amp. It connects off the main speaker outputs, so no sub output connection required. Informative video Thanks!
Jolida is now called Black Ice Audio. I believe that the owners said the Chinese pilfered their Design so they redesigned their amps, changed their name and now build only in-house.
A quick tip: Amplifiers should be powered on for at least 15-20mins for the bias to stabilize before adjusting bias. Also, always ensure a load is connected to the outputs (either speakers or resistive dummy loads) to avoid damaging oscillations in the output transformers.
@ I recently picked up a Sophia Electric Aqua II 5u4g. They were released last year 2024. A couple tricks I use to smoothen the vibrations your tubes may reverberate from surface and sonic vibes. I suggest using porcelain tube socket savers. They’re heavy and I’ve noticed a smoothness in sound. Also, I suggest using spring style isolation feet and would remove 4/7 springs. Want even more transparency? Invest in pure silver cables. All cables.
Yet another well timed video prompted rolling in some NOS TongSol 12AX7s and 12AU7s into a Xtonebox 60sp phono pre. The result was vastly improved microdynamics. Rolling in EML 20A's & 20B's for OEM AVVT 20B-SL's in a set of Wavelength Mercury monoblocks was quite interesting -> 20A's are more delicately - 20B's are more dynamic - The OEM AVVT's are more well rounded ~ Rolling definitely changes the flavor of things :).
That description of hearing a tube amp for the first time is interesting because thats exactly how I recall what I heard a tube amp in the late 90s - early 00s at the audio store. Not sure what the amp even was or what the speakers were but I think they were some kind of large towers with built in powered subwoofers / bass bins and the tube amp powered the mids and tweeter. But even with zero context of what a tube amplifier was supposed to sound like it was just super natural, lifelike and effortless and very different from the very nice solid state system at home. Oh, also, located in WI.
Strange amp with bias bottom side! Got a chinese and gonna roll but will go from EL34 to KT77, if that’s not audiobel I’m giving up the chase, isn’t what we’re in this for, the hifi holy grale? Greatings from Sweden, keep it up!
Good stuff. Black Ice produces great hifi. I have a Decware amp with NOS and outstanding cryo tubes from an outfit in your home state, Texas. Wathen Audiophile. I'm in Los Angeles.
@ psvane is a dumb name anyways. They should just call em something cool like Lynx, Astro or Bob’s tube. Psvane is just odd in general. I have the horizon kt88s in my black ice F35. They are pretty good. I like em better than my KT170s.
I've rolled dubies, does that count? 😅I've rolled 7-pin pre-amp tubes, my favorite are Mullard m8100 blue shields or Voshkod rocket gold grids. Edit: Try the Mullard pre-amp tubes I mentioned if it will take the 7-pins. Mine were made in France(rare). The bass you'll get is I think what you'll be looking for. Good stage, very rich bass, silky treble, excellent vocals in the mids. They should counter the brightness of the Psvane tubes a bit.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm running KEF LS50s with a 10 watt class A amp. Not a limit output wise and sounds better than the class D amps I tried with 5 - 10x the power.
I loaded up on tubes from uppitty scalar audio unkle kevs best mullard nos milspec ones spent a bunch they do sound great my preamps esp do need sum conrad juhnson love on pv10b and pv6 both but tbh i need to drive these old infinity kappa 7s and 8s and only bryston seems to do it right whee long sentence
ROLLING tubes? VOLTMETERS? And yes, your music probably sounds "different" with the new tubes, but does your music sound BETTER? I think people need to start noticing you guys avoiding the term "better" altogether, instead going with the nice and safe word...."different".
if its a push pull amp (looks like it) the output tubes don't matter that much. The circuit topology and how its build is much more important! NOS tubes will give you a "different" sound but "better"? Audio is all quite subjective.
Who are these weird people that come up with absolutely silly phrases to explain a task? Roll my toobs? 😂🙈 I’ll stick to ‘swapping’ or ‘changing’ my tubes thank you. I’m not getting into all that fake audiophile pish.
I personally would never buy a amp that you have to bias the tubes Sticking a screw driver in a turned on amp isn’t my cup of tea My tube amp self biases itself and I am willing to pay more for it than trying to bias the amp itself Thank you MacIntosh!!!!!
@ That’s true I saved up a long time to afford my amp! I’m just saying trying to bias tube amps is something that should be left for someone who really knows how to do it I don’t and I’ve heard of people getting jolted pretty good while trying to bias amps

Watching from Portugal. Started gaining interest in Hi-Fi and came across your channel. Really like it. Keep up the good work.

I'm going to check it again soon!
Great video. Please follow up in a few weeks when those tubes are seasoned and let us know how they sound. Looking forward to that!
Speedmaster watch and Mcintosh gear. Yea buddy you're doin' alright.
I had a 68 year head start
Bob, you are the Surgeon General of the United States of Analog! I don't believe i've ever seen tubes manually biased in a RUclips video before.
I could have shot it better, but you get the idea
Thanks AGAIN Bob !!!!! Lets go 20 K !!!!!!
I'm trying!
@UnitedStatesofAnalog And you're doing a GREAT job !!!!!😁🤘
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog You got this Bob!!!
It’s gonna sound excellent in 3 weeks and will only get better.

Greetings from germany. I just bought an old dual turntable and amplifier to get back into Vinyl after 10 years. Found your channel a few days ago.

Cool. I think it’s called “piz-vane” per their marketing people

Better is subjective... but, yes, I thought I indicated it was an upgrade in sound from the stock and JJs
That wasn't Van Halen 5150 that was 1984.
