    My first bike was a dyna I bought off my uncle. I hopped on my uncles extra dyna for my first time on 2 wheels. Rode lots of quads growing up . The only thing bad about dyna for your first time is the torque and I was definitely not anticipating how easily the bike can feel like it’s getting away from you if you aren’t ready. Take it easy and just respect that throttle is all.

      Spencer Evans that is absolutely insane for that to be the first bike you sit on - you got a really trusting uncle right there! Which year and model are you currently riding?

      Same here, too damn big for a sportster. Did my MSF and got me a dyna wide glide. Yes the weight and torque is something to be concerned about. I basically just took it easy and kept her in the neighborhood, low speed shifting through the gears and getting used to it. Being careful.

      Guys I'm shitting my pants , I did MSF 4 years ago and I was looking to get my first bike , rebel 500, kawasaki vulcan S , but I'm 5'7" and also 220lbs so I'm kinda fat maybe too fat for them and I decided to get 07 street bob , oh man this bike is beautiful BUT heavy as fuck and too much power and I'm just scared to ride, Idk if it's possible to learn on something that heavy and powerful and I wonder if I did mistake......and thinking about trade in for something smaller. On top of that I just don't know how to turn right from the stop, I always go on opposite lane.

      @@Voltomess You can do it. 1st off always ride with Full gear on. 2nd Install crash bars on that bike. 3rd. Ride it every day in your neighborhood, just keep it in 1st & 2nd gear for the first month. 4th It helps if you start a weight training program to help strengthen your body ( taking creatine powder too). You'll be fine.

    Taking the riding course through Harley in about a week. I rode dirt bikes in high school with a family friend and never let go of the freedom it gave me. Almost got a street bob 4 years ago in my freshmen year of college but unfortunate events made me get a new car. Now 4 years later and freshly green out of school I’m finally fulfilling my dream. My ex gf step dad road a street glide and it felt massive for me. Thanks to culture and television, I’ve only ever dreamed of being a dyna man. Looking for a low rider or super glide to make my dream fulfilled.

    My experience/advice might be different from others. I wanted to get use to the weight of a Sportster before getting a Dyna, which is the bike I currently have now. Instead of buying a Sportster, new or used, I rented one for a weekend and took a trip. Few hundred bucks but it helped me feel out the bike and I got the hang of it fast. I got away from the city, I live in LA and just got in tune with the bike. It was a great experience and something I highly recommend instead of dumping money into a Sportster, unless you plan on keeping it for the long run. Just a suggestion if renting is available in your area.

    My riding experience is mainly off-road but it helps new riders the best thing you can do no matter what bike you get. Is to consider what riding you’ll be doing. Then test rides and if your so scared to get the bigger bike going in the parking lot then go down to the smaller one. Nothing wrong with it. No matter what though youll drop it. My first road bike is my 2019 softail streetbob. I took it slow and gave myself plenty of time to do things maybe like 2 days before I took it onto the free way. My wife got a roadster and it took her almost 2 months to do that. Now she has a softail fatbob. So don’t let the size really fool you. A begginer can take the midsize models just fine but they have to respect it is all and not try to go crazy before they get a couple thousand on the saddle. I’m currently talking to a coworker about getting his 09 dyna because I enjoy opening these bikes up and have had a lot of fun learning about them. A super moto is also on my next list. just be safe no matter what bikes you get. Use your head and listen to experienced riders when they tell you to take it slow. Also taking an msf course wouldn’t kill you and is worth your money.

    • @FXDLSBrooklyn
      @FXDLSBrooklyn  4 года назад

      Right on, thank makes total sense - I feel like having the prior experience of off-road is a huge benefit for a new rider, experiencing all that uneven and unstable ground!

    I started more than a year ago my first bike and Harley is a 2011 Dyna FXDF Fat Bob, and I totally agree with you it is an excellent motorcycle, you won’t outgrow this bike, Dyna's grow on you, the weight does overwhelm you at the beginning but if you focus on controlling low speeds before speeding and doing stupid stuff then you might be able to drive whatever is thrown at you. PS: I never rode friends dirt bikes or anything more than a couple of times and a few blocks in my life...

    I took the MSF then went out and got a '09 Low Rider, which I still ride to this day. I almost started with a '09 Fat Bob but I felt less confident with that bike so I went with the Low Rider. All of my friends told me not to buy a Sportster because I'd outgrow it in a few months so I took the gamble and I'm glad I did. The one thing you have to keep in mind is how YOU feel. Are you comfortable with the Sportster or Dyna? It depends on your feeling. I was naturally nervous about starting out on a bigger bike but that went away after riding for a few months. It took that long to feel comfortable. It helps to get the opinions of friends and family who have ridden for a while but ultimately it comes down to your confidence level. Once you make that decision then practice, practice, practice. Especially the slow maneuvers. Safe riding!

    I went with option 2. I can't imagine a better choice for me personally, but it might not be the best choice for everyone. So, im 33 yo, 5'9" 215 lbs and had zero prior riding experience just for reference. Im not huge, but im not small either. I went and took the hd riding academy class at my local dealer where they put us on an xc350. I took to it pretty quick and felt extremely comfortable during the class. When it came time to buy my first bike, I decided on a 2013 dyna fat bob i ended up getting from the same dealer. Initially, i did feel a bit intimidated by it. Not so much by the weight of the bike, but the 103 motor (approx 1700cc) has a ton of power for someone with no or very little experience. I had a friend help me get it home and i took some time getting to know the bike. Practicing some slow speed stuff around the neighborhood and in some big open parking lots, and really getting used to controlling my clutch and throttle. Within a couple days i felt comfortable enough to take it out on the main roads, and within a couple more i was cruising down the interstate. Now, fast forward 6 weeks and 1200 miles, the bike feels very natural to me and im pretty damn comfortable on it. I can't possibly imagine making a better choice for me. But again, that choice may not be the best one for everyone. Take an msf course and see how you feel on their bikes, do your research before you buy anything, and go from there.

    It was 20 years since I had a bike, My last bike was a 750 Suzuki. I ran into this 2006 Harley Dyna Low Rider with an 88 twin cam. It was scary at first and I almost dumped it a couple of times. I'm 67 years old and I have put 2500 miles on it since May 6 2024. I'm retired so I have a lot of time and I spent it riding my Harley and right now I'm pretty good at it. If anyone has never ridden a bike in their life then I wouldn't recommend it. But if you did and you have a few years since riding one then I would recommend it, This Low Rider is a lot of fun!!!.

    my first bike was a 2015 48 and it was an awesome bike. Great bike to learn on, as i started to venture on longer rides and highway riding it no longer fit me which led to my 2016 street bob which hit all the check marks for fitting me better and able to tackle highway speeds without the motor screaming like on my 48. I would have to say that if you can afford the bike you really want be it a dyna, softail whatever as your first and commit to practicing and taking it slow until you're really comfortable with the bike then that is the way to go. Just from personal experience because of the expense. Going back I wish I had just got the Street bob from the start and just learned on it since I outgrew my 48 so quickly. Would be the beginners riding class through Harley, or even through a third part where you can ride other stuff beside Harley’s. I would definitely recommend it as a first Harley. But in 2017 I bought the Low Rider S and now I can't see myself on anything else. It's like a Sportsters big brother on steroids. Great Bike for sure.

    Went into the store, determined to get the Iron 883, sat on it, felt good. But then the salesman showed me a used 2015 Dyna Wide Glide and I fell in love. The forward controls were so comfortable. (I'm 5ft10). However, it was terrifying my first ride. I was very choppy with the throttle, which was so powerful. (Just recently learned it is Stage 1 with the SE air filter and a Cobra 2in1 pipe). Now after three months riding I feel confident enough and have gotten to know the bike. It fits like a glove. And now I'm saving up for the Stage 2 upgrade, gonna go with a torque cam. Love the pull of this bike. BTW, this is my first bike; although I've thought of one for about 25 years. Also Btw, had only ridden a friend's motocross bike (YZ250) twice and once on a friend's Goldwing about 20 years ago.

There's two Harley dealers in town here that give a school ($300) and they supply the bike: a Street 500 with crash bars. There's also a community college that gives a course and provides a similar bike. In the beginning, I did slow speed manuevers in parking lots and gained confidence.

    My first bike was/still is my 2018 HD Sport Glide! I love this bike! Like you said, there really is no way to choose a "Best First Bike". For me I test rode a street 750 and I realized she just needed more power, I knew within a few days I'd be bored. Then I sat on the Sport Glide and I was intimidated because of her 700 pounds and all of the power she has. But I took her out for a test ride and I had the biggest smile that lasted for days lol. In my opinion, if you want a sportster or a 750 because you aren't confident enough especially with slow maneuvering with a lot of weight then ride those, start with whatever you feel COMFORTABLE with. I felt comfortable with my Sport Glide, a little nervous about the weight but I knew I had the skills from the MSF so I relaxed, stayed calm and did what I was taught at the class. For the power, I think for the first 500 miles I only used 1/3 throttle, but once I got more comfortable, I used more and more throttle until I used full throttle 🤙🏼 Like always bro, Nice video🔥 I was actually just thinking about making a motovlog about "Best First Bike". I feel like the more videos about things like this should happen because the more the reviews or thoughts the better for the new riders out there!! 🙌🏼

    • @FXDLSBrooklyn
      @FXDLSBrooklyn  4 года назад +2

      Absolutely, you should definitely make that video - content that is tailored to potential new riders is the best content - like the Shadetree says "The more of us on the road the better"
      But yeah man, the Sport Glide when it first came out, I honestly didn't like it. Then some of my friends got them and I saw what they were capable of, and I think it's a really great bike, especially those stock bags!

    • @MotoMiracle
      @MotoMiracle 4 года назад

      @@FXDLSBrooklyn I definitely agree with Shadetree on that one! Whenever I talk to my friends or any who is just thinking about maybe taking the course (or people that don't like the idea of motorcycle riding) I tell them what my MSF instructor said.... "If you can ride a bicycle then you can ride a motorcycle". So I tell them to think of it like that.
      The Sport Glide is like 4 bikes into 1 . Quick detach bags and fairing making it a naked bike in 10 seconds and then going back into a bagger. The thing I love is the cruise control that is stock! Definitely helps with the long rides 🤙🏼

      Thanks Joe, much appreciated - well the good news in that situation, is if you sell the Glide, you'll probably have more than enough to buy a used Dyna - if you're looking for something new, selling that Glide would probably get you half way or more there - Let me know what you wind up doing! 🗽⚡️

    Believe it or not I learned how to ride on my first bike I purchased which was a big 82 Electra Glide shovel head engine. I’m from Manhattan straight out of Hell’s Kitchen. I just hope on the bike and kept riding around the block till I got used to it. That was a great time. 🤘🏻

      FXDLS Brooklyn unfortunately I do not. I ended up selling the bike and I had got myself a red Heritage Softail. Great bike. At the same time we all were in the Chopper phase and I had a black Chopper built for me with a 250 rear tire with a right side drive chase and Transmission. Great life bro. Then I sold both those bikes and got my dream bike , a 2015 Street Glide Special in black denim. Now here’s where it got bad for me bad joints runs in my family and I had already had gotten both of my hips replaced and I only had put 34 miles on the Street Glide and my knees started giving out. I couldn’t even pull the bike off it’s kick stand without being in pain. Long story short , June 27th 2019 I had both of my knees replaced at the same time cause I didn’t want to go through that pain twice. After the surgery was said and done I had my buddy ride the Street Glide to the dealership for my and as of October 19th 2019 I am the proud owner of a 2020 Softail Lowe Rider S and that is where I am today. The only thing is this Coronavirus is messing up my riding time and that’s where I’m at today. Thank God for your videos. God bless you brother. 👍🏻

    My first Harley was my third bike. 94 FLHTC. I wouldn't recommend it for a first bike, big and heavy.
    I grew up on Yamaha dirt bikes, enduros, Honda Three wheelers, snowmobiles, and then a Honda 750.
    I still want, and wish I'd had a Sportster first... and kept it to have fun on with my other bikes.

      FXDLS Brooklyn I’m originally a farm guy from Illinois. We rode all over Central Illinois back when they actually got decent snow cover. We’d truck them up to Wisconsin once a year too. Our first snowmobiles were... wait for it... John Deere. They were heavy but good runners. Then I got a Yamaha. 👍
