      Funny thing is until the last ten years or so, the only two anecdotes I had heard about William Shatner were extremely positive. A friend of mine had a daughter trying to break into show biz and she said Shatner completely ignored the table full of accomplished actors to sit down and talk with her during lunches, give her support, etc. The second one came from a friend named Janell (in case William Shatner is watching this and remembers). Many years ago, she met him at a bar. I'm not sure I remember correctly, but I think she was tending. He told her about a wonderful place to eat and she was enthusiastic about it. The next day Shatner sent her a free lunch from that restaurant. Due to these two anecdotes, my opinion was that Shatner was generous and down-to-earth.
      I only heard about William Fucking Shatner from George Takei, some of the other actors who weren't Kelley and Nimoy (in other words, the B Team) and Wil Wheaton. I totally believe he was probably a jerk to them, but there was another side to him, as well. Otherwise, he would never have sent a lunch to my friend.
      So Shatner? He can't be all bad.

      @@matthewbarker9134 That's a good question. I would hope that if Shatner knew, he would feel at least a little bit bad about it. This is the thing about human beings. We can't know what is going on in each other's head. Sometimes we don't even understand what is going on in our own heads, lol! All we can go on is what we see them do and hear them say. In this case, it's hard to tell.

  • @shaggycan

    Shatner is a very focused person who has what I call 'a small plate'. He only can deal with a few things at once and anything outside of that is a distraction and an annoyance. It's not personal, its just all he can deal with at any one time. Some people have bigger plates and are more relaxed. In fact most artists have large plates and are unfocused, he is a very blue collar actor. That's why Bill was 'mean' to Will. He was working on a movie and all his attention was on that, he didn't have room on his plate for Will then. Its the same as the rest of the cast on TOS, he was the lead on a very chaotic show. Every episode was a struggle to get done good and fast and on budget and he didn't have room on his plate for people like Walter or George, he had a show to do and a family to take care of. Whereas Leonard had a much bigger plate and looked after his cast mates. Everyone has a different plate.

    • @michaelscanlon1353
      @michaelscanlon1353 4 года назад +3

      Wil didn't just blather onto Bill in the middle of a shoot, a common friend called him over. Bill lacked common courtesy and was very self absorbed, however you slice the reasons for it. There are many examples of this same behaviour with the TOS actors. Now its on them, and they all handled it differently. Takai took an approach where he took it VERY personal, and to this day lives with the memory of how Bill effed him over. The others each had their own tact, and Wil grew this into a relationship of sorts.

    • @frederick2video
      @frederick2video 6 месяцев назад

      Good way to describe it: Shatner has a small plate. That is just how he is. I agree that most artists have large plates which is why fans may sometimes be shocked by what they see and hear in interviews with Shatner or other actors who talk about him. Having a small plate is a type of temperament, I suppose you could say, like having a short fuse. Some people can only handle so much and that is how it is.

      I think he's used to it by now.
      You can't make everybody happy even if you're polite and friendly all the time. It's just not worth the ulcer to worry about what people think all the time. Half the people on the planet just aren't worth worrying about. They're nasty clueless people who are only worried about number one. They're never going to acknowledge you or be friendly. I've been in enough jobs meeting different people to know that's true by now.
      Plus, Shatner is an actor. This is a group of people who PRETEND to like each other.
      I think it's a testament to Shatner's thick skin that he was able to take the epiphet "Shat" and turn it around into a nickname, "The Shat." You have to have balls and a healthy ego to do that.
      I think Wil Wheaton is FAR from being there if I read him correctly.
      Do you know how many people hate each other's guts in the acting community?!?!? I think the women are far cattier and nastier to each other than the men are in general but still...!
      Yeah, I think if anybody's being hypocritical and self-serving here, it's Wil Wheaton.
      I'm more split on how I feel about that guy. At times, I feel bad for him that he became known for playing Wesley Crusher, one of the most despised character in ST: TNG which is ironic considering Wesley was the stand-in persona for Gene Roddenberry who's virtually god to a bunch of Trek fans who should know better, but on the other hand he's said some stuff that's really, really beyond the pale and justifies some of the antagonistic feelings people have towards him.
      With Shatner, I kind of know what to expect by now and probably would give him more of a pass. The guy is a bit off and VERY weird but he can also be damn entertaining and very, very interesting.
      I really don't think the guy's an idiot, arrogant or not.

    Dealing with someone who has game addiction right now, and it’s nothing short of unnerving. Plays Facebook 🎱 pool all day, everyday, much to the detriment of herself and any normal routine she used to have. She’s 39 years old, on disability, our parents are deceased, extended family wouldn’t care or do anything even if I did say something, and she sure as hell doesn’t listen to me! You know... the way this is shot, Shatner and Wheaton don't have to be in the same room when it's being recorded. They could record separately and do reactions without the other being in the room.
    There's no long shot in this video that demonstrates they're in the same room at the same time, is there?

      It cuts two a shot of both of them multiple times -at least twice from my quick check.
      That said, for the past 30+ years there's been technology available to display people asynchronously in the same shot. It's been used countless times for all sorts of things, and can even be easily done by amateurs these days.
      My point being that even if they were shown together that doesn't mean that they _were_ together. There's no reason to believe that this wasn't a genuine conversation of the two together though.

    0:55 "...1990's..."? Wil...open your window and smell the cards cause, it's still out there. (55 years old and still playing). You call it "the chase" (how Californian), we call it "pay to win". It's unpleasant and house rules needed to be made to make sure "fun" was the reason for playing. 02:15 Again, Wil, you have it backwards. You can't play with someone you don't know, you play against them. And playing with your friends is the only way to know if your values are close to being similar the theirs. So in essence you're testing them, and the result will be whether you ever play with them again, or not. Tell me Wil, do you ever play with those friends, still? 02:30 To all those who say/think Shatner is lost in this conversation i say "get a raise" and then go see ruclips.net/video/lIJLkWy7h1o/видео.html.

    Bill Shatner has NEVER liked Video Games... I remember back when he did voice work/acting work for Interplay's Star Trek games back in the 90s.. He really never liked it even back then... Some people just won't change their opinions... Not saying Shatner isn't a great guy.. He is.. A VERY great guy in my opinion.. But I don't think he has much respect for gamers lol
