Very nicely explained Sir. After my 12th I failed in NEET and couldn't secured a medical seat, my family members, friends, neighbors everyone used to treat me like I'm not good in studies or unintellectual or I'm less than those who cleared, that time I didn't had motivation so I enrolled in BSc chemistry just because I didn't wanted to waste a year. I was in serious depression for 3 years thinking that I'm stupid and not talented only those who study medicine are geniuses and other kinds of self doubt. later I decided to do something and I gave law entrance after BSc graduation and cleared in first attempt so today I'm a lawyer. Whatever I studied in BSc Chemistry nothing was useful in real life but after becoming lawyer all those who laughed at me now call me for legal consultation and legal help.

Since my 2nd year in progress, they pushed us to aim and achieve higher. they supported us during our GRE and admission procedure. @@sukeshkohli475 man, just check the gdp per capita of USA i.e. $62,794 and that of India is around $2,009. That, clearly indicates US cost of living is too high and most of native of USA can afford their tuition fee. It's the cost of living that makes the education fee high as it's privatised in USA. It's not about money at all. It's all about skills and curriculum that Indian education system lacks, let's say we are studying the outdated syllabus which is around 15-30 years old and today's world doesn't work with this syllabus. Plus most of our professors here are useless, they know nothing about modern sciences and their core subjects. It's like we are so obsessed in cracking govt. jobs that no one is well qualified in their respective subjects. You can take example of china it's gdp per capita $9,777 still they are one of the bests in world for research and they have nearly same tution fee that india has. It's all about quality and skilled education which Indian system lacks by a very far margin. Short summary - we need to have quality professor with updated knowledge of modern world. Money is the second preference w.r.t education.

And same goes in Western countries, they just take that SAT which is rather an easy screening test..

I agree that the selection process to get into IITs is more or less base on elimination rather than creativity but we also need to look at the practicality right? There are so many number of applicants! I have done my B.Tech. In Chemical Sciences from IIT-G and I am currently pursuing Ph.D. in the field of Quantum Computing at Purdue. So I have gone through both admission phases and both of them have their own merits/demerits. But in general I do agree that the research environment at IITs is deteriorating. There are many reasons and most of them are administrative. Recently one the eminent faculty of IITG (Dr. B.K.Rai) was given a compulsory retirement. Why? Just because he was exposing corruption! Again most of the administrative appointments are political and that’s the reason why these people don’t have any kind of fear.

I completely agree with you. But by what logic is having PCM compulsory? A person Who wants to study BSc Physics at IIT needs to use 2 years of his life also learning chemistry and that too at IIT JEE level and his chemistry marks will also decide whether he/she will be able study BSc physics or CS. So basically they are judging a fish by its ability to climb a tree. They can keep exam specific to the course you are choosing like SAT subject tests. It doesnt take that much money and effort and also useless uninteresting topics for the students will be eliminated.
Please note 22 million students take SAT that is more than 10 times the number of students who give IIT JEE exam. So I feel this can easily be done. Just needs some concrete efforts to be put in.

He is right that 99.99% what we study during our JEE preparation is useless....but I want to mention one thing here that the journey of a student during JEE preparation teaches you how to manage your life and how to overcome difficulties in life. It also makes you strong enough to do anything big in your life. So, we should not always think everytime academically when it came to an IITian

This hits so close to home. I all through out my childhood loved physics, loved observing things and asking why they were, the way they were. Since was a good student, every one told me to go for IIT coaching. I agreed because I thought it will be the same. But it was a complete rat race, I never got to enjoy even the physics part of it because there was no time to think, and the sole purpose of everything was to just solve questions and nothing else. My scores dropped and I started feeling very depressed.
I had to take admission in NIT Nagpur in a branch I am not interested in. (There are physics branches in some NITs but my parents didn't allow as they said it has no scope) Then there is a 75% rule so you have to attend classes even when you dont like both the teacher and the subject. And the exams are passed completely on the basis of rote learning and your handwriting. And you have to study very hard just for a decent pointer because everyone else is doing the same.I don't remember a single thing I studied.
Right now I am in final year and have finally made the decision and convinced my parents to let me go for M.Sc in pure Physics and am doing self preparation to clear the IIT JAM entrance exam. This exam too is based on "who completes the question the fastest", but I have put up with it once and this time the end result will be studying something that I love.
Sometimes I think, if I had given up on the IIT coaching, I would have let down a lot of people including my parents, but I would have saved myself from the self hate. I would have gone to a private college and would have had more time to do what I love and would have been way more happier.

Also I really hope that indian universities in future focus more on helping students perform better and quality research rather than making them chase behind high paying campus placement jobs.

The main reason behind poor research at IITs is that the system does not allow innovative problem solving skills. For example, if you are working as a Ph.D. student under an IIT professor he/she will give you the problem that he/she thinks is important and you keep working on it and you don't care the time, you just spend whatever time you like because you know that UGC will be paying your salary. In US, the graduate students are funded by research assistantships which come from the projects funded by NSF, DOD, etc. which have fixed durations. How many IIT professors actually know how to write a winning proposal? In US you have to compete for federal funds for tenure and promotion; in India you write your two-page proposal and if you know the right person at the right position you get the money. Mostly it is consulting money, not research money. You can't do real research in this environment. The Indian government should require the professors to write proposals and get funding from competitive sources and pay the Ph.D. students from graduate research assistant positions instead of UGC money.

Do not underestimate IITs. If you are not at Princeton, Stanford, MIT etc, IIT is your best best. First of all congratulations! This achievement will stay with you for life. The best thing that will happen to you is that at IIT you will meet the best brains in the country, many of whom unfortunately will lose focus. Do not go to IIT with high expectations. Consider IIT Delhi as a basic platform that has given you the credibility. Now what happens within 5 years after you graduate from IIT will be the most important determinant of your career. So do not indulge in IIT life so much. You can enjoy your time there for sure.

@D Entertainment Ek MIT k professor ne IIT ka paper utha Kar dekha aur use uthakar fenk diya. Aur bola "So what?? Can u test somebody's intelligence on this piece of shit?? Are u Crazy?? Just bcz u can solve a man made, highly modified, highly tricky, highly Calculative questions, that doesn't mean you're outstanding or Your IQ is exceptional. Even If 99% JEE failure students do know the concepts more than those 1% IITians but the thing is that they just know how to solve & apply it😂. That's it. Nothing else." He further asked, " Okay Do IIT Qualifiers have done some research work or Something different for which they can be called different, some new Facts, Some new Perceptions, some new Innovations. No, these people r just studying the same thing over the entire 2 years preparation & wanna boast for this shit!! 😂😂." Toh apne logic se keh do, IIT k Rattu tote students >>> Deemed MIT Professor. Tabhi toh India ka IIT ka entrance world mein 3rd position par aata h difficulty k respect mein aur IITs ki QS World ranking 😂😂 samajh hi gye honge. We need to change this attitude as well as IIT's entrance pattern which is totally bulshitt

I completely agree with everything you say about IIT but not with the research part. In IITs, a tiny fraction in the research community (MS/Ph.D.) is not up to mark, but most of them are really brilliant. That is also the case with some of the good state universities in the US, which I know personally.
