Think I'll stick with my paid off 5.9 '07 mega. I'm getting right at 21 mpg hwy (hand calc'ed. Lie-o-meter says 23). Pulling our 24' TT, I'm usually around 14. Love seeing the new trucks, but I just can't imagine the payments that come with it. I'm totally confused on why RAM continues with ~30 gal fuel tanks in these. For running empty, range is about the same as a car. But towing... ug. That's what these were built for.
My 19 3500 srw got 18-19 on hwy towing boat 5500 on hwy got 15 and box trailer into Colorado we got 12 which weighs 4500 with krx in it.Wind drag is bad on it.But with all that said it’s a beast at pulling and the exhaust break is beautiful.
I just ordered a 22' Limited 3500 Mega Cab 68rfe. I'm kind of regretting it now, because I think they look so damn ugly. The think that drew me to a mega cab was that I saw a one leveled on 22s and thought it looked sick. I hope I'll still feel that way when it comes in.
I just got a white 21 limited 2500 with the black out package and I think it’s badass... and the reg cabs still have the 4th gen rear seat interior. Mega cab gets the 5th gen back seat with no transmission hump and a full sized middle rear seat
My 2014 Ram 2500 mega cab was getting way betters MPG with an average of 24 to 25 mpg with a max of up to 27mpg. I traded that truck in for a 2019 Ram 2500 limited crew cab and I’m disappointed in the mpg the new truck gets. City mpg is a little better but highway sucks compared to the 2014.
Beautiful truck! I have all the paper work done on a similar 2019 2500 Limited with all the goodies, except the air suspension, but I can't take delivery until they figure out a recall problem in the transmission. It seems the trans can build pressure in the valve body that can cause discharge of transmission fluid from the dip stick and spray it on the turbo and exhaust manifold potentially causing a fire. All I know is my $80k truck is sitting on the lot waiting for Ram to figure out a fix! I'm going from a 2015 2500 6.4 Hemi to the new Cummins. One of the primary reasons is because I got tired of getting 7-8 mpg when towing my 10,000 lb toy hauler, but from what I've been seeing, the Cummins isn't really a bunch better. I figure I'll be looking at somewhere around 11 mpg while towing my trailer with the Cummins, but after paying $.50/gallon more for diesel, the typical extra maint costs,... and oh, the $9k diesel penalty, I'm not sure the diesel is really much of an improvement at all. My Hemi has plenty of power to tow the toy hauler anywhere I want to take it, it just has to work a little harder to do it, like sometimes pulling grades a 5,000 rpm for example. The Cummins will just do it a lot easier!I think my 2500 with 4:10 rear running empty on the same drive you did would probably net about 13-14 mpg.
Razors Edge Adventures I’m looking at the 2019’s Laramie 2500 now. I was set on the diesel now I’m set on gas. My main fears are rams notorious for rust, 75,000 mile transmissions and I’m a little concerned with the big 12” display but that’s also the reason I’m getting it. I hope these trans are better as well as metal treatment
Urban Hunter I haven’t really heard a lot about rusting issues with the Rams, but then I don’t live in an area where there is a lot of salt put on the roads etc. I have a 2015 Ram 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi and, even though it has low miles, I’ve not had a single problem with it. The Hemi has good power, but it needs the RPMs... and lots of fuel to make it. The gearing of the speed tranny isn’t a good match for the Hemi, especially when towing, but I haven’t had any mechanical issues with the tranny and most of the miles on my truck have come from towing my 7500# boat or my 10000# toy hauler. I agree with your concerns about the longevity of the 12” display and the incredible amount of electronics etc in the new Ram, but in reality, every new vehicle produced these days has the same kinds of electronic Componentry and vulnerability! My issue now is that I’ve discovered the 2500 Limited I’m waiting on only has a 1840 payload! How do they produce a truck with 18,000 towing capacity and limit the payload to 1840? Can hardly handle the tongue weight of a 20’ travel trailer, let alone a 35’ 5th wheel!
Razors Edge Adventures I noticed the low payload. The power wagon is way worse. I’m only looking at the Laramie longhorn with extended cab not the mega so it has higher payload I believe. I plan on towing a 30’ travel trailer about 10 trips a year if I’m lucky. Other than trips to Home Depot and occasional driving just to not let it sit it will be in my driveway as my daily driver is a Subaru Outback.
@@eric44707 The displays are pretty plug and play. If there is an issue it can be replaced by yourself or even swapped for an aftermarket one relatively easy (afternoon max). I just converted my F150 to a 12.7 inch aftermarket in like two hours and that included some rewiring.
I had the bds 3 inch with fox shocks. The shocks they sent were too short in the front and banged on hard bumps terribly Their track bar is complete junk would always cone loose. Fox shocks rode good and towed good I had tge radius arm lift. Was terrible i would never use them again. The bushings on the radius arms squeaked terribly like forest gumps mommas bed Thing sounded like a wagon driving down the street. Their support after we gad problems was terrible as well . And got a price of 3400 to return to stock Also 3/4 ton s seek to be more senstive to drive shaft angle. If i built that truck again i would have some work done to tranny first no more than 90hp tune Level it so of their s issues i can return to stock easier. I would use a better shop if one existed in my area Or i would leave suspension alone and tuning stock but they are slow in stock form.
Nice to see a non-HO reviewed. I noticed your tires are way over inflated to. On the 3/4 ton the door stamp should be 60psi. My 2019 was cranked up to 80psi to
I want to order the same truck with the air suspension l've test drove one and notice l was able to put about 20 miles on the truck with the air suspension deployed to get the rear of the truck to sit level with the front l noticed your Alt. Trailer light was on so my question is can you drive with the rear bags lowered and not have the computer throw up any codes also when l drove the truck like that the truck did not bottom out over bumps, basically l want the rear of the truck to sit level with the front with out having to spend alot of money and l'm not a fan of lifting the front of the truck to match the rear.
I had a suburban delivered on a truck. They overtorqued the front axle. It never drove straight. If you drive it yourself, it’ll get broken in properly.
My 19 mega Cummins is getting the same mpg you experienced which is 20% BETTER than the highly modified 6.0 Powerstroke I sold. Did you drive over any mountain passes on your trip? I’m feeling a little bit of an engine boost surge under certain conditions where low rpm (1400) and about 12psi boost which means a fairly steep hill, I get some power surging. Call up CJC off road they will take care of your suspension needs even with the air rear end.
Shit I'm late seeing this I would of had you check out my jacked up bronco and shoot the shit on the Texas toy ..I bet that's a nice ride with the air ride
I have a 2019 RAM 1500 classic with the diesel motor (short bed 4x2). My average is 21.8 mpg. On long drives (California to Texas) I get up to 32 mpg. Medium trips (LA to Big Bear & back) gives me 28. 3 mpg.
I've noticed newer cars have absurdly pessimistic fuel gauges. My 2018 Mazda 3 is rated as having a 13.2 gallon tank. If I fill up right when the light comes on it doesn't even take ten gallons.
I have a 2020 Tradesman 2500 with the Cummins that is nicely equipped in my opinion and I paid $49,000. about three months ago. The only option it didn't have is the tow mirrors and I am adding those next month. I haven't worked it much yet and have been getting 22 mpg while every day driving.
Nice video, thanks dude. I wonder if the truck checks the cabin temp and keep the air coming in from outside until it senses it's cool enough to recirculate it from inside at that point? Just a thought. Badass truck dude.
@@Mattcandy123 Jesus! While I must say the Ecoboost has never given me any issues I definitely regret buying it. I can't tow worth a a damn and now 4 years later I find myself heading towards towing semi frequently
Those where the good old days. When you could buy a limited for low 80s with all the options. Lucky to find one for 100 now with some features. 🤦🏽♂️
Beautifull RAM 👏👏👏👏
I am also surprised at the mpg on my dodge ram 3500 4x4 mega cab . I am attempting to improve with every banks option they offer
The model with the 8" long bed offfers a 50 gallon fuel tank.

My tuned and deleted srw 2014 3500 long bed gets 19.8 mpg with 3” lift, 4wd, 34” tires and bed cover doing 75mph. Hand calculated.

Yes you can run alt trailer height with no issues for truck to sit level. I think it even stays on after ignition cycles.. I will check tomorrow.

You'll be having the service work and warranty work done at a dealership near you?
Yes
Bds has lifts for ram air suspension
Why in the world did they send you up to get it
probably opted to go get it. It's often cheaper to rent a car and pick it up then to have it shipped to dealer.
