Toasty Tips for Storyboard Pro

- Whew!! Tutorials are not my usual thing!! But they're doing a fun thing at work where they ask employees to offer art tips, and this was something I felt secure talking about lol
Storyboard Pro is what I use to make storyboards at work and at home (which are now the same thing). These tips fall somewhere between the complete basics and the more complex functions of the program; basically, they're time-savers I wish I'd known when I started using it. If you've never even played with the program, this might all just seem confusing. And honestly, even if you HAVE used SBP, I'm sure there'll be a decent amount of pausing the video to keep up. @v@
I used SBP to make this, but it's not a great example of the boarding work you can do in the program, so...
Here's a storyboard video I made in SBP: • Escape from Divinity |... Кино
Me, who doesn't animate: I could use some toasty tips
And we get to hear a Toasty as an unexpected bonus! Huzzah!!!
It Is useful for pmv's too
This is INCREDIBLY helpful omg -- this was 4 straight minutes of me going "There's an easy way to do that???" THANK YOU!!!! This absolutely saved the program for me!!!!!!!
All tutorials need to be like this....
I’m taking a storybaording class this semester and we’re gonna be using this program, thank you in advance for saving me Pain
I have two big boarding jobs coming up and this just saved my life, thank you so much!!
I have my head in my hands. I had no idea that auto-matte was a thing and was wondering why there wasn't an easy way to color things in stb pro. thank you for the great tips!
Best start of a tutorial: THE PROGRAM IS NOT YOUR ENEMY
Hmmmm Toasty Tips must be a series now and I’m for it
OMG I HAD GIVEN UP ON STORYBOARDER YOU HAVE GIVEN ME BACK MY HOPE THANK YOU
please never take this down!! i go back to this all the time - thank you for my life for these tips :')
I just want you to know I just started using storyboard pro and I’ve gone back to this video so many times I’ve lost count!!! Thanks so much for these tips
GOD I HAD NO IDEA ABOUT THE COPY PASTE LAYER THING this is great thank you
That motion tween tip will save me so much trouble from now on. Thank you so muchhh
oh my gosh it changed my life when a coworker told me about it!! glad I could pass on the knowledge haha
Ive been doing it the slow way and I thought I was so smart lmao!! But it was def limiting and frustrating if I didn't plan out the shot perfectly
I found this 3 years later BUT OH MY GOODNESS YOU HELPED ME SO MUCH. Literally saving so much time and effort with your tips
This is the tutorial I’m looking for! Toon boom puts a lot of effort to build the software but they need to do more videos like this to tell the users!
this is the cutest tutorial I've ever seen
Damn this makes me respect how FLUID your animation is EVEN MORE
This is literally the one tutorial that got my attention haha. Thank u for making this!
THANK YOU! finally a good tutorial i can understand
Just saved my life presently and many times in the future, thanks.
THANK YOU!
GOD
You have no idea how much I need these tips!
Gotta love the dancing gremlin
Possibly the best SBP video out there! Thank you so much!
bless you, kind lady
You have no idea how much this video helped me
For a long time working as a revisionist I’ve seen boarders being careless with layer name consistency and blaming that to lack of time.
Now I am a storyboarder and I can safely affirm those excuses were pure bullshit. It is perfectly possible to work while keeping the layers organized. Actually, it is essential.
Anyone who works on the same file further on will be thankful.
And yes this is very useful! I actually might want to become a concept /storyboard artist but right now I'm trying out everything in art I can get a hold of and listing the ones I enjoy the most to keep my options open
If only all tutorials could be this informative!
I dont use it but I'd live for more tutorials from u
Thank you so much! :D I've been trying really hard to get into stp, but not having a good work flow yet is really making it hard for me. So these are good things to know

STORYBOARD PRO IS MY ENEMY FIGHT ME
Thanks soooom much!!!

I've been using Storyboard Pro since High School and I didn't know about Advanced Copy/Paste and Auto-Matte until now. I'm about to graduate college. 😖
You are a goddess. Thank you.
THANK U SO MUCH
SPREAD LAYER MOTION!!! thank you
I love you ❤
For everyone on windows: It'll be shift+crtl instead of shift+command!
thaaaaannnksss
u're a beast
auto matte.... where have you been all my life
I love you........
I have toom boom essentials, is it worth the money to switch to storyboard pro rather than finding a new program?? I feel very limited in essentials but it’s expensive as you well know haha
So, Harmony Essentials is an animation program, while Toon Boom Storyboard Pro is for boards! Typically they're supposed to work together--doing boards in SBP and animation in Harmony--so I don't know why you'd switch from one to the other? Unless you've been boarding in Harmony, in which case I can definitely say SBP is preferable for that haha
ToastyGlow ah sorry I just saw this! Thank you for replying- I think I got storyboard confused with harmony advanced! So never mind haha this question is unrelated to this vid
Think you could do something similar for Harmony? I'm dying XD
tbh I still kind of hate harmony and am also dying, sorry @v@ I'm not sure I know any helpful tips for it!
@@EmptyFeet Noted. I've been slowly learning my way around, and occasionally using the offered tutorials and learning videos offered on the Toon Boom Website... but yikes amd I still a mess
How do you make a key frame animation go faster but take the same amount of time to play out? So like I need a car to get from point a to point b but it’s going to slowly
Uh please more tutorials?
Sooo, I just got story board pro, but when I wanted to draw on empty layers, it wouldn't register and the eyes just wouldn't open. Do you know what I should do?
So do you no longer use photoshop to make your storyboards?
Also, do you use harmony as well?
yeah, no more photoshop! I think the last thing I made with that was actually the Church animatic, and it was such a pain in the butt...for such big projects, it's so much better working in SBP! I do also have Harmony, but if I'm being honest, I prefer Clip Studio Paint for animation and just, like...art generally. Photoshop is a garbage fire comparatively on both fronts. >.>
@@EmptyFeet Yeah I too am not the biggest fan of photoshop. I tried to work on my first animatic in it and gave up halfway, just got SBP and Harmony, and can't wait to give it a go!
Btw I found your tips helpful. Thank you.
: )
I just got this wonderful program but my main issue with it is onion skin-it never shows the very previous panel, only the very first panel on the entire scene-is there a way to fix that at all?
sometimes my onion skin glitches out and does that, but only after I've just finished playing through a scene, and it'll go away when I click...? all other times it just seems to work as intended for me, sorry! @v@
@@EmptyFeet honestly this just might have been me messing with the options too much lmao, otherwise though-your video pretty much answered all my questions abt this program so thank you sm!!
*cries in procreate*
Question: is it TOON BOOM storyboard pro? You didn't specify...
that's the only storyboard pro there is! :>. also, re: your other comment, I believe it's industry standard, but it's also pretty easy to pick up on the job, so it's not a problem to start with a cheaper program if that's more convenient for you
@@EmptyFeetThank you for confirming! I use flipa clip right now, which is great for beginner's in basic movement and the free music recording part since I'm very influenced in my ideas by music, but its lacking the more advanced tools I could use. Like the character adjustment across all frames? I so could use that cuz I'm still a crappy planner. And the, (what you call it... Tweening?) Would be very useful for backgrounds in animation/oc memes.
I have a little bit of my animation I'm working on up on my Instagram but I work so slow that its gonna be awhile before its finished haha
oh no!
Hey do you know how to turn up volume when adding sound clips?
yeah! so, if you look at the sound clip in the timeline, there's a line running through the middle of the soundwaves. if you hold down the option key (that's on mac, but I'm sure if you have a PC you can find the equivalent with a little experimentation) and click the line, it'll create a node that you can drag up and down to change the volume!
you can also add multiple nodes to create, like...volume keyframes, so if you need something to fade out you can add one at full volume and another at mute. hope that helps!
@@EmptyFeet thank you is there also away to speed up the frame rate so the panels look more animated?
@@dandeelion8777 okay, so, this is a little hard to explain, but storyboard pro files (and most professional animations) already automatically play at 24 fps, meaning that if I make a panel that lasts half a second, it holds for twelve frames. it's not a matter of "speeding up the frame rate", just of drawing more panels that last less time (which is all animation is anyway).
this is so nice. u are so nice. how do u exist--
Hello I love you I'm gonna buy this now okay drink water have a good night be safe thank you.
Storyboard pro isn't for free, righ?
sadly no!
@@EmptyFeet ah, well gotta life with that. thx! Do you know good free art program to start doing animatics, tho? (and I really love your art and aimatics. they make my day :3)
@@firemoonxd4520 aw, thanks! also yeah actually, storyboarder is a great free program I've done freelance work with in the past! wonderunit.com/storyboarder/
this makes me want to get storyboard pro because I actually get such a comprehensive and fun tutorial to pair it with.
I hope I never meet you in real life because I might marry you for making such a useful video.
