I like her quick sketches, you can see that she’s a pro visualizer, how to communicate the story is just as important as detailed artwork
Yeah! Because of her, I’ve been storyboarding a lot and sketch journaling.
it's harder to get good fondations and ideas in sketches than adding more small strokes for details
9:52 When she used her hand as a reference! Haha artists can relate. Sometimes we’re taking photos of ourselves in diff poses too just to get the form right.
oh wait she was using it as reference? XD
i thought she had gotten some ink on it and thats why she was looking at it like that
RIGHT it’s so embarrassing when my sister accidentally sees a random picture I took of myself in my camera roll that I used for reference 💀
She seems like a pretty awesome person to hang out with and just talk art, stories, and stuff like that
"I bring something into the room that others couldn't" THIS! I know I have a bad habit of comparing myself to others on things that I DONT have that they do, but I love her saying that because everyone has something unique to themselves that can create great things. 100% using that quote when I catch myself comparing.
That's brilliant. I should do the same!
Agreed. Storyboarding is a lot easier than animation. Kudos to her, I personally don't like people watching me work either...especially watching me over my shoulder 😱😾
she handled the pressure very well. 😂
The perfectionist side is one I'm trying to get over. I hate when a something goes off model and the hand looks weird but she's right about not focusing so much on a shot that is there for only a second! This was very inspiring!
I am still learning about both but I feel like they are easy and difficult in their own way. Animating is very time consuming and you need to get the details right so it looks like a proper movement, but there isn't much to think of especially if you're used to it. Story boarding doesn't need to pay attention to that much detail, but you have to think on how the shots will look like, the good placement for the characters, and maybe some minor gesture or position of the characters. You also need to make sure that the directors can see what the scene is about in that particular part and the character's expression.
Not only you need a wide creativity and visualisation skills as the storyboard artist, you need to keep in mind about the placement, camera angle, and expressions. I've tried a bit of storyboarding and oh boy do I feel like I need a lot more practice! They are amazing in their own way!
I actually aspire to be a storyboard artist and this has really helped my progress of understanding how it works!
Awesome video, SYFY WIRE. More like this please...
Yo can you tell what pen she is using for the story boards????? Its hard to tell
COΔN pentel sign pen.
While I honestly disliked this particular movie, I really appreciate the work and strenuous detail that went into making it.
Same.
Good movie
We need more people like you
Yeah, it's really unfortunate that good animation can't save a bad story.
this is so awesome. i just applied the same training program and feel all the same doubts - i know i have a lot to offer but i also know i can’t draw as well as others. this was really inspiring and made me feel good about the story reel i submitted
Zac M that’s so great! Good luck!!
@@Victoria-so1in thank you! haven't heard anything yet but i'm not giving up!
how are you doing now?
eyubeon doing gesture drawing everyday, reading tons of art books, applying to jobs, and started Uber delivery driving to save up to make the move west!
Hi! may I ask, where did you apply to it?
Josie is one of my favorite people out there.
I'm working on a storyboard assignment for my very first film rn and this is super helpful!! Thanks for the video!!
This video was really good and I'm glad it was recommended to me by RUclips.
Her story seems so inspiring. This video is so insightful!
Such a fun person! And watching her process is actually pretty useful (especially the 1st phase where you focus on getting the emotion and drawing just for yourself). Awesome stuff!
Thank-you for the share. Inspirational and informative.
what a super inspiring story!! Loved listening to Josie and her experience
You'd think that Disney Animation’s Head of Story could get a pad of paper that comes with 4 pre-printed rectangles.
Awwww , well done Josie you did very very well, I understand the effect of being on camera, i liked watching you draw and listening to the the pen strokes and seeing the energy you were bringing into the drawings, you definitely bring something special to the storyboards/movies
The entirety of the process of the storyboard is truly interesting, yet intimidating. I like how she explains her experience that with these you must go for time efficiency, enough to get your point across.
That was amazing! Thank you for walking us through a process, that just isn’t seen anywhere else. Great video.
I want to do study animation and this video was just very inspiring and make me feel good
This is so neat!! Thumbnails are so hard for me to wrap my head around this helps alot
Thanks for sharing Josie! Love this :)
I love her . Such a great attitude
Aaaamazing content ! Please more !
i can watch this all day
good to see key people in animation rly
thanks josie awesome vid
I love seeing the process
Proud Filipino here!! 💕💛
Nice work, Josie!
Josie rocks!
*i could watch these for hours..*
Thank you.
I think you guys should do one with Chris Schweizer, really enjoyed this one too though! :))
I can’t help but notice that she looks like Pia Wurtzbach
My breakdown need to be broken down more. Thanks.
What pen are you using it looks so satisfying!
I really want her job
Cool stuff!
Awesome...A whole other level...
Damn, she’s talented and cute
Does anyone know what pen she’s using or ones that would produce similar lines?
Looks like pentel sign pen
...And you look like a Disney character!!! You're gorgeous and brilliantly talented!
Does anyone know which brand of pen shes using?
Victoria pentel sign pen
This was awesome!! Love seeing more powerful women in the animation industry ❤️
In my opinion its more about talent then gender. But she is doing great. Its sickening to me to not hire a talented woman just because their a woman. But you also shouldent hire someone just for being a woman. There are so many amazing male artist and animators. Likewise for women.
Wreck-it Ralph is one of the best movies of all times and Ralph breaks the internet is one of the lamest movies.
Josie is not to be blamed. She is a very pure of heart person.
it is the problem of script and agendas the top heads want to throw at the world and expect the story team to make a sense of that stupid junk they think is great.
Frozen, Brave, cars3 all new movies fall for this trap.
only Toystory 4 manages to survive that and offers more honesty in characters than others.
Does anyone know what kind of paper that is?
What pen is she using
Does anyone know what the type/brand of the marker Josie was using?
Its the pentel sign pen.
@@Victoria-so1in i bought a 12-pack of these after watching this the first time. i love using them, but i think the coolest thing is how much better they've made me at using a pencil! like running with weights or something, lol
Zac M they feel so great to sketch with. I use them just as much as fine point sharpies
@@Victoria-so1in thanks
Anyone know what size of her blank notepad?
Does anyone know what that pen is?
Its the pentel sign pen
What pen is she using and why do story artists always seem to like chunky drawing tools?
Coolbeans
What pen is that? I want it 🥺🥺
Looks like pentel sign pen
What kinda pen is she using?
Krieg -The War Within Pentel offers a similar one called Pentel Touch
The one she’s using is the pentel SIGN pen. There’s also the touch one that has a flex tip.
What was the "secret" that the title was eluding to?
sk3tch I guess the techniques she uses are “secrets” about how she works
It’s not even really a secret. A lot of storyboard artists do this kind of technique.
Victoria Not everyone knows that though. Honestly, these videos are harmless and are great for those just getting into storyboarding, or who don't really care to but at least would like to learn more about different aspects of animation production.
@@punkyagogo I just think the wording is a little misleading... I mean.. I started watching the video because I was going to learn a secret.. and disappointed that I didn't.... couldn't they have worded it... "shares process..." or "share technique.." wouldn't that be a more accurate description?
i feel like you should all go look at the Mad Max Fury Road storyboard for a little bit of perspective...
💖👍👍👍👍
God... how many lines does it take for you to draw a square
flat_foot my exact thought 😂
Pfft, watch artists draw circles. It gets worse
There were no animation secrets useful from video. At least I understood the storyboarding and conception stuff.
I also want to go into story, I’m not good at animating, It’s to tedious for me.
This is great, please share more female artists in the animation field! :)
can anyone tell me which kind of pen is she using?
It’s a Pentel sign pen
I’m getting one today lol
What kind of pen is that?
I love it!
I have no clue if you'll see this or if you still care but it seems to be a Pentel Sign Pen! (Note, that it is the pentel sign pen, not the pentel sketch pen or the pentel touch pen). :)
@@Oddscribble thank you! I was hoping I could tell by the video but I couldn’t. Thanks for the help OddScribble!
@@thedreamarmada3146 Happy to help! The Pentel brand is VERY popular for animation! I know that Cartoon Network supplies Pentel Sketch Pens (a bit different from Pentel Sign Pens but still pretty neat to use) for their storyboarders. Other animation studios also use pentel quite often, though I can't remember which kind (I'm guessing it's all just a preference thing, and finding what kind works best for you!)
Why this youtube channel is not allowed in my country (Brazil)?
I have a mild social anxiety and just seen her drawing in front of the camera is making me sweat 😅 I’m a illustrator but I get really apprehensive drawing in public
I didn't know Disney still had artists.
lol
@thehb2k obviously sarcasm
you have to draw it out then they make the cg models.
Please get a better angle on the artist’s drawing next time! Still great video!
Hi friends gid me
Millions of things I do not do because of the bad psychology involved. So many things can not be said !!!
Does just boys works in disney animations?
No
WTF THIS VIDEO
too bad the movie's shit
Beginner artist don’t watch this video
No wonder the second movie was so bad when she doesn't even think about, camera angles and scene composition when drawing a scene. "My teacher learned at cal-arts" well that explains everything
WHAT are you talking about?
Ralph breaks the internet was the worst movie. TRUE.
but camera angles, scene composition are the LAST things to consider when telling a story.
are you out of your mind to think that she was planning wrong?
when you are telling someone what happened or how do you feel about something, do you say
" imagine Low angle, 20mm lens, back lit, low ceiling fan spinning slow, slow music playing...."
or you just say " I felt sad that day"
?????????
camera angles and composition are the 2ndary things to create AFTER you have locked the basic EMOTIONS down.
Don't confuse things. just because you hate calarts. and to be clear, I have absolutely no connection with anything.
just your mixing up Josie as the person to blame for wreck-it Ralph 2 caused me to reply.
BTW, I hate Thundercats ROAR! and love TEENTITANSgo!
if you can't find the difference, you are not trained well to see the difference.
that was underwhelming
I learned nothing from this video
If you learned nothing you weren't paying attention. Try again.
sooo this is the person who make ralph look like a baby in the movie, sorry but i didnt like your work you did on the movie.
Booooo! worst movie ever you seem nice though.
I thought the movie was pretty good and well made. Be a good sport and dont boo people. They are doing their best
does anybody know what pen is she using?
