According to the wiki, the Khnum in this DLC is actually vulnerable to weapons, he just has an absurd amount of health (100,000, which is higher than Ugh-Zan III and the same as Hugo from SS2) so shooting him is pointless anyways.
It's hard to believe this was an official product. It looks like a level pack made by someone who's never played Serious Sam and doesn't even like it. "idk you just stuff 50 enemies in this room that's Serious Sam's idea of difficulty"
Legend of the Baron of hell from serious sam 3 that we put from our cancelled doom project then backported it into the second encounter but it's actually the first encounter.
Honestly, considering you can get it for 1-2$ I'd say it's pretty ok. But then again, you can also get the 2 classic games for the same amount of money.
I feel like this is definitely one of your best videos. The combination of the informative review, the cynicism, the editing quips and the general flow made it entertaining to watch. I think whats here in this video is a good balance and I hope you don't go overboard with the editing, the cynicism or the jokes in the future.
Anyone who say games that cater to hard core tryhard players is better don't understand basic marketing. You don't cater to the highest demographics, you cater to the largest, which are the average level.
4:35 The pump shotgun actually had a proper animation in the alpha build, but they removed it for the release? It was sad enough that they didn't bother adding a proper pumping animation to it in HD, but knowing that it existed in 2000 is mind boggling. 10:26 Hold up! The final boss room did not look like that when I played it and neither did the buttons have a unique appearance. It was not lit up in red and the buttons were your regular "brick" style button. That aside, I think every boss fight in Serious Sam that doesn't let the player make use of their arsenal of weapons is by default awful and I consider this boss fight to be the worst one in the entire official series. Ugh Zan III may in theory be similar, but he gets points for the visuals, the large battle around the pyramid and on top of that, he is actually big enough to justify having a huge HP pool. A Khnum was already introduced as a regular ass fodder enemy at the time.
I wondered why this DLC is so hated in the Steam reviews (okay, I see currently only 9 reviews for it on steam ^^). I played in 2012 the classic encounters for the very first time. Then in the same year I played the HD versions as well. I liked the idea that at the beginning the pistol was the main weapon. I mean, you usually always start with the shotgun. I have to admit, that the part with the kleers in the middle of this temple was hard. @8:19 approximately But I played on hard difficulty and was not an SS expert, I was newcommer, so I thought ok I'm only lame. The later fact, that these levels were alpha levels, was interesting. I have to say that this really differs from the main game, gameplay-wise.
being a sucker for all(most) things Sam, i kinda enjoyed this when it came out because there were enough throwback elements to the original series... but you pointed out alot of things, that, yeah, contextually & canonically don't make sense within the true spirit of the series. i actually just played a bit of this the other day out of boredom, and it really don't have much replay value. thanks for an in-depth, informative look at one of Croteam's weaker moments! it is what it is, i guess...
Idk what kind of fanboy can dislike your content only because you can roast SS every now and then. You are clearly a very passionate SS fan which is rare for a youtuber.
I was about to dislike because these first 2 min of info we all already know, clearly stuff for 10 min mark. But after all I enjoyed the video so I just liked it
@@lukemorgan6166 I mainly made this comment a few years ago due to this youtuber reportedly getting a ton of undeserved flack from some people in the serious sam community. The guy is very well meaning and clearly loves the series yet only because he also has negative things to say about it people have disrespected him a lot.
Those Kleers "running" away at you. They have a tactic... it's the same "default" tactic, but this tactic DOES NOT stop when there's a foe. I'd say it's also a good use on some enemies like Biomechanoids just to add an interesting challenge that they just don't stop and shoot and moving towards you. Or Werebulls circling around and attacking you one at a time...
A Major Biomech is faster than you even when shooting on occasion, meaning that you have to deal with him before he gets too close to avoid the rockets' splash damage. Them getting closer and closer is what makes them dangerous in the first place. Kleers keeping their distance also makes them way easier to deal with. Just keep strafing and you'll be fine. A swarm of them that leap-attacks you constantly will quickly lead to chaos that inevitably leads to the player taking damage. Same thing goes with Werebulls. All of the above is what makes target priority so important in games like Serious Sam. So no, this "tactic" is not an interesting challenge, it turns the fight into a boring shooting gallery.
Don't dis Sam's plotline duuude. As long as they are putting Sam somewhere in space and time he should be able to deliver a fun encounter. I missed this DLC. Looks like I didn't miss too much.
Just finished playing this DLC myself and yeah, it was a completely meh experience. It was somewhat tolerable for me because i found the secret shotgun in the first level and the secret rocket launcher in the second, so i had something to get through it a bit quicker, but it only helped so much. Honestly the only reason i even bothered with it is because i had already bought it when it was on sale with Second Encounter, so i figured i might as well play through it. And now that i have i will never do so again.
These are actually maps from Serious Sam's alpha days that got remade for this game. Yes, the alpha versions actually look like these maps, but much more on the 'classic' visual.
I can swear this was made only to celebrate or pay homage to Diablo 3’s release. Didn’t another game do DLC like this? Just a few levels capped off by a fight with a devil looking creature?
Fun Fact: To this day, you can skip the entire last level by going around the locked door and rocket jumping to the end of it, matter of fact, you don't even have to rocket jump to do this on easier difficulties, you just have to push a basic enemy next to the wall and jump on top of it and with a right timed jump the attack throws you up just enough to reach the final Door to the boss, skipping 95% of the level, and to this day, they didn't bothered to add one more line of code to lock the door to reach the Boss because skipping it is so easy even someone who doesn't play FPS games can do it, and this error it's still in the base HD game, they fixed it in the Fusion Beta, but i guess not in the Original HD Remake That's Croteam for you
Hm. I never thought about it that way having it take place in-between Oasis and Dunes. The only continuity problem of that would be the main objective of the DLC itself finding the Amon-Ra key. I guess CT just wanted to find something to experiment with as their first DLC, looked back on the old 2000 build and said it'll do. Also figuring out the awful voice lines from this DLC, it's a wonder why they didn't just reuse the original ones. That's right, there's original voice lines in the style of the classic games for every one of these. Guess they just liked Sam 3's voice better? PS: regarding the 'exclusive tracks from the original Xbox'. Nah, those are all music from the original game from Sacred Yards and Karnak.
I didn't dislike Legend of the Beast at all. The first time I was even aware of it, it was on sale for about £1. I snapped it up without even thinking. It was just more unexpected SS, for almost free.

The deal with that is they almost lost the IP after Serious Sam 2. Croteam fell into financial desperation and needed the sales of HD to fund Serious Sam 3. What happened after Sam 3 however seems to be a load of nonsense.
@@FrameRater That explains why they didn't make HD all-in-one... perhaps Croateam wasn't sure will they manage to make all of it, so they upgraded only the first part. Ok, that's understandable.
I didn’t play this until recently in fusion, and the poor level / enemy design and slow drip of weapons easily made it my least favorite serious Sam experience thus far. The dark underground sections of 3 are a close second. Haven’t played 4 yet though.
