Its a protocol. Im a chairlift operator and I hear all the calls from the Patrol and I can tell you that they need to have all the equipment with them because they are not comming back.
With loss of you blood you can get dizzy, specially in this kind of temperature. Riding down while drawing a line of blood can make you go from a bloody nose to an awful accident
yeah i remember when my brother broke his femur in two falling on ice he was SCREAMING bloody murder pretty much. i told as many people as i could that were going by to hurry up and go get the ski patrol while i stayed with him. it was bad. i still remember it over like 15 years later.

A lot of people see these men and women as "Snow Popo's", but without them, no mountain would be safe. I make an effort to say "Hi and thank you" when I see them. The stress they deal with is a lot more than you would imagine.
On most mountains that isn’t true. These guys are amazing. At least on vail mountains they having something called “mountain safety “ in addition to ski patrol. Mountain safety are the real crappy people. They just stand at slow signs and yell at you but don’t actually save or help anyone.
problem with that is that the ski patrol (where i am) can have a tendency to act like they’re the best thing on the earth. some of them are chill, but the vast majority are pretty rude
I remember one time me and my friend were off the trail drinking and smoking ski patrol rolled up and we thought we were done for. They rolled up all cool and said “ someone broke their femur wanna come help “ 😂😂😂😂
Most mountain staff are pretty chill, as long as people aren't being dicks, but there is always that one guy. I see people smoking all the time, and I generally just look the other way (I'm staff in a different area than patrol)
Ski patrol saved my grandpas life when he had a heart attack on the slopes. They life flighted him on a helicopter saving his life as going by car would have taken to long. So much respect to the Alta ski patrol

I was in a terrain park and hit a sheet of ice on my tailbone, breaking it, after hitting the biggest jump there. Ski patrol came and helped me down to the hospital. I have so much love and respect for them.
I broke my arm on an Olympic sized halfpipe (21 or 22ft) at Copper Mountain, CO. This freaking legend rode his snowmobile ON THE HALFPIPE. Their ski patrol uses snowmobiles and not skis, so I wasn't getting special treatment or anything. A skier would been just fine, so it's not like I was getting that when a person was super injured was only getting a person.
In 2015 I had a pretty bad fall precisely at SilverStar Mountain, where these guys work at, and I had to be evacuated. They did an excellent job and took really good care of me, they are the best.
I miss being a skipatrol. I worked at a small hill in ontario. I was the only professional patroller ever in espanola. And the very first to pass the toboggan testing on a snowboard in ontario. My hardest rescue was myself. Only patroller on duty and a marker m46 binding broke and i lost my ski and broke my femur. I had to train people to the to load me and get me down. . Im a logging truck driver now days so time is very limited but if someone ever needs help im in. The canadian skipatrol has my respect.
These guys give you the confidence to go out and have fun. Got a chauffered ride down the mountain once with a separated shoulder in Whistler. Very professional. Respect! (The coolest guys are the medics - if you are not badly injured they just ski off and leave you to the other guys!).
I live in a resort town and my dad and I both work on the mountain, he does ski patrol and I bartend. As weird as that sounds, having both roles in such a close relationship helps a lot. If there's an accident I can tell him how many any parties involved have had, and I know the full gravity of what can happen on the runs and when to cut someone off. Also there's no one I enjoy riding with more, we've both been doing it our whole lives and even at his age he shows me up in ways I'd never expect. He's a great dude and I love him a lot 🖤

born and raised in a ski town in Colorado, ski patrol was THE job. our resort tested applicants by getting a senior patroller to lead a bunch of applicants up and down over the entire slope with no break in every terrain, everyone in town had a story about what score they got or how many hours they lasted for. while a lot of the calls were pretty stupid (speeder on a green, tourist got on a too-hard run and is now just refusing to move, stand at the bottom of a dangerous run and strip the season passes of speeders), but in real situations, ski patrol is incredible at what they do. mad respect.

I was in Andora when a skier crashed into me and I smashed my head on a massive section of ice. I can't remember much and I apparently blacked out. I did have a helmet on and I am super appreciative for the patrollers who got me down safely.
I am a lifty and regularly interact with ski patrol, I’m very great full to them where I work there’s usually more calls about lost children from what I’ve witnessed, all children were found btw thanks to ski patrol

not rly related but this somehow reminds me of someone in a advanced group during my school's ski trip last week who had to slide off a double black diamond trail using her face because she fell over and was sliding too fast to regain her balance, so someone else had to hold her skis while she was skiing on her face. it was a rly interesting day according to the teacher in that group
they make it look 10000x more intense then it is at my ski hill my place its either a few young adults who hate their lives or some cranky middle aged guys who freak out when you build a little kicker to the side of a hill

Also an OEC instructor and I agree it does not fall under the scope of OEC. Remember this was filmed in Canada. Additionally, I think it also depends on the medical credentials carried by the personnel in the base aid room. I patrol at Mt. Baker and our aidroom staff is made up of Drs., Nurses and Medics. All who have higher credentials than OEC techs on the hill. So we have the benefit of passing to a higher level of medical care as soon as we get our patients to the Aid Room.

Is it possible to benome a mountain rescuer if you can barly ski at age 14 ?

broke my clavicle once while riding my snow board, it hurt like hell but at least I got to ride a snowmobile the people were really nice and I had some nice memory's they even told me to come back again which I don't know how that benefits me but 10/10 experience.
2 months ago I fell on a double black diamond and hurt my leg, if the ski patrol weren't there with their sled I would've had to walk down and end up doing a lot more damage to my leg

cadiac pain istn't something you have to respond to in seconds. Spending your energy on cases where its not needed only means you might not have any left for the hard cases

LOL i broke my collarbone when someone hit me at the top of the mountain... no ski patrol, I skied all the way down through the blacks and hiked partway to the car.
I was on the Ski Patrol in the seventies....it was the only way to ski free all winter!
I remember that mountain is it silver star? I broke my arm and leg there how ironic :P

I thought this video was going to be about kids getting chased by ski patrol. I'm guilty for that. Ski patrol always chases me when I do something wrong. Sometimes they get to me, but sometimes I manage to get away 😂

What patrol is this? I’ve never heard of a Ski Patroller being able to give Adenosine. I’m a certified OEC instructor.
Also an OEC instructor and I agree it does not fall under the scope of OEC. Remember this was filmed in Canada. Additionally, I think it also depends on the medical credentials carried by the personnel in the base aid room. I patrol at Mt. Baker and our aidroom staff is made up of Drs., Nurses and Medics. All who have higher credentials than OEC techs on the hill. So we have the benefit of passing to a higher level of medical care as soon as we get our patients to the Aid Room.

I once broke my foot...I didn't feel it until the hospital because of the cold...and I said that I was fine to them but they kept me in the ambulance and the slidy bed until we came to the hospital...ever since that happened, I only ski on the blue slopes
i can confirm that hitting a tree while skiing doesn't feel good
