One of my top 5 favourite space sets!
This set wasn't available in the UK (it was only sold in USA/Canada - TLG official excuse was West German mums found the set to be "too aggressive looking", an excuse i find rather flimsy as the set was in the European catalogues for 1987, more likely the real reason was to boost sales of magazines by offering loyalty points and those people who collected enough points could then have the opportunity to buy sets whose retail was limited to North American only).
I do own this set, as its not too challenging to rebrick a Renegade, and i got lucky with the 2x2 yellow with black grille printed tiles as i found a Canadian seller on BL selling two of those tiles.
The limited retail of this set means its value is 2.5 to 3 times the value of the Battrax, despite the two sets having a similar piece count and the Renegade has one more minifig.

Thanks so much for this info!! I did not know it had a limited release but did read how "aggressive looking it was". Great going rebuilding this set, you saved a bunch doing that! Without this set the Blacktrons would be missing a key part of their overall feel.
