Since Lego is terrified of doing anything that isn't licensed (except for "city" I guess?) why not give Benny the Spaceman his own spinoff show, and have him go up against Blacktron, and get help from the Space Police? That way you can bring back the "old school" Space Lego sets for Benny and his pals, and the Space Police and the Blacktron sets for us older fans...which would of course, re-introduce them to younger, newer fans. I promise, kids today would eat up modern Blacktron sets done in this kind of style and color scheme.
As a younger fan who loves Lego and constantly buys their Star Wars sets, I still very much agree with you that I get a little sick of seeing nothing but licensed lines from the company, excluding City, and the Ninjago series. I don't even count the film sets honestly. I really just wanna see more unique, Lego-only product lines, because we used to at least get like one every couple years. Atlantis and Space Conquest were two i admired as a kid but after a while those sets just kinda vanished. Everything in the Creator line is nice but it's very unfocused; I really wish if nothing else that we could get a proper Space Police line again that stuck around as furiously as some of their other long standing licensed material. The set QUALITY hasn't dropped, and I love that more detail is possible now, but in terms of themes the company seems to only produce other companies' merchandise >:V
so.. you want a space movie? you know classic space is like 40 somethin' years old and in 2019 get a space movie?. ehh I don't know it might be a little hard to make up a story.
This is one of the oldest sets I own. Found it in a flea market and bought it for $45 with the original instruction booklet to boot. The major components were there with a few missing pieces, like a minifigure, a yellow 1x1 plate with clip, trans red rods, etc. But I was able to replace most of them with pieces from my own collection. I am so happy about the giant trans yellow quarter dome, as that piece alone usually costs more on its own on Bricklink when compared to the price I paid for the set as a whole. Great review, Jang! Hope to see more classic reviews in the future!
Such an amazing set. I am excited that my 5 year old son is currently watching this vintage lego and telling me we can build or buy it. Just have to convince his mum now haha. Love this, love your videos. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
I always thought the base would open up to launch the interceptor fighter. And because the rockets would make a lot of noise and heat you would have to evacuate and separate the other base. The winding corridor was for progression of the blast wave. that's what i think.
Man, I love your show so much! Thank you for allowing me to see so clearly and in details sets that are either too old or expenssive for me to get my ands on. :)
Up there amongst my all-time favourite sets, alongside the SP Mission Commander. As a vintage fan I really hope you keep doing odd Vintage reviews from this era as there are so many great pirate, castle and space sets to look at.
Wow! I've seen pictures of this one before but when seeing it in detail now makes me love it som much. :D All the big spaces and shapes and the colors are so cool!
The cool thing I loved most about original Blacktron vs. Original Space Police was that you weren't REALLY sure who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. Sure, more optimistic type fans like myself would consider the Space Police the good guys...but with those red face shields and very menacing looking vehicles, it wouldn't be hard to imagine them as more of a fascist type of dictatorship, pushing their rules on all the other space guys. Blacktron with their pure black look, could easily be seen as bad guys...but if you imagine the Space Police as sort of an "evil empire" kinda deal, the Blacktron dudes become more like rebels or Robin Hood type guys. Very fun and very cool!
That's an awesome set! The spaceship reminds me of a Star Wars gunship when the wings are down. And like you said, the visor up/visor down contrast was amazing. Great review!
The set is in great condition for a used set. Bit envious, I would love to have this set in such a good condition! Especially after watching your review. Never realized all the cool features of this set.
I would definietly like to see those more "3D" corridors with turns for the modern sets focused more on structures, such as police station, hospital, etc. Like you said (I think?), it really gives more depth to the structure in my eyes.
Tomatoe / tomotoe, in the south were I lived (Tennessee) they say oil different then we do in the north. Good job giving detail and displaying the set. Personally I never had it but want it and the videp was a nice spoiler. Thanks Jang.
I begin to realize I was born too late. Missed the 12V era which in some regards was better than the 9V I grew up with, missed the modular castle sets from the 80s, missed all the Futuron and Blacktron (the REAL Blacktron). I'm probably going to eat bread for the rest of my life, since I need all of this. :D
These classic sets felt like a complete structure from the front and back sides. Not just a front of the building, a"Hollywood Facade" piece like most modern Lego "buildings" are.
You gotta shell out for the big modular Creator expert sets nowadays, and while I like those they're v costly. They also tend to be a little cramped TwT
I had this one too. Amazing set, also sold by my wicked (but totally not wicked) grandmother. She gets a bad rap. She just really never understood my fascination with toys. Her loss.
I see the control tower function as a sort of emergency system. If the base gets infiltrated from one side, they can alert the other and commence the separation, thus stopping the attackers from reaching both sides of the base.
I, for one kinda like what they did for the siding on the rover. I have to agree that the rocket on the side looks a little awkward, but the trick they used for the siding I actually like a little bit!
I still got that in a box on the attic of my house. No parts missing. And the original packing und construction manual is still there. Greetings from Germany! Sry for my bad english...
As always, great review! Thx a lot. Well, this is surprising, i thought, you would stop reviewing LEGO Space for having collected all the LCS stuff you ever wanted. I find the second generation of Blacktron better (except for the big "B" on the chest of the minifigs), but at least, the rover in this set is quite cool, just because of the bars. They give it more a shape of containment for the driver, (especially the rounded corners are cool) other than the plain open contructions we all know. The studs could need some covering, perhaps a steering wheel would look better, but i like it in general. Blacktron is cool because it so black. It is also a not well known fact, that the Blacktron-dudes had a passage in their villain-contracts that forbid them strictly to open their visors in public or when on duty.
Oh my gosh, watching this video made me figure out why that Benny's Spaceship from the Movie seems so "off" from the Classic Space theme: while it had the classic blue-gray-trans-yellow colours, it definitly had a Blacktron build. Just look the Blacktron spaceships at Brickipedia and compare them to the model!
I had this set and I'm kicking myself for not taking better care of the sets I owned as a kid. Those big trans-yellow window panels alone are worth like $30 now...
I agree that on the rover. It would have been nice to have a smooth rod but it gives me at least, a jeep-y feeling. With the rocket booster on the back, it just makes it feel more of a bad space rover.
Wow, it's so shiny! Was it brand new? Either way Blacktron was certainly one of the coolest themes ever and the minifig remains one of the most solid designs.
OMG!! that brings back some Memories!! Jang I was wondering if I can do a Video on our Channel building your Logo out of Lego Bricks in Stop Motion. Greetings from Germany.
Hey, iv been looking for this lego set for a while my brother had it when he was younger and he collected alot of the old space legos before. Iv always wanted to know what it was like what the name was and stuff like that cause i have his old legos now but alot of the pieces are missing. But i was just curious as to what kinda legos he had and what the built looked like im so happy i came across this vid thanks for putting it up its really great.
Looks cool. I had (temporarily) outgrown Lego by the time Blacktron and Futuron came along, but the Blacktron stuff is really nice looking. Way better than Futuron. I hope you can review 6954 some time. It is one of the large ships on my wish list.
BLACKTRON! YES! Blacktron. I love this theme. Its a shame that I was born in 1990 so I did not have these kind of sets in my childhood. Any chance of reviewing more sets from blacktron or better yet blacktron II?
Sad You didn't mention about hidden box under corridor. Also interesting information is that manual has mistake and there was errata added to manual for propre construction near corridor
Hey. I got this base as a child and i loved it. Do you know if there exists an instruction for the walker or the spaceship which is printed on the cover?
In real life, some radar dishes that send and receive signals from satellites and such can move on a track. They need to be as close as possible to their target. The moving part on this set isn't far fetched, it's to receive the messages better.
I got this set for Christmas when I was 6. So many memories brought back. Really good memories. Thank you Jang.
They should bring these back (at an affordable price ) as like some sort of LEGO vintage series
That would be great. Maybe with some added details and features
Lots of printed and transparent pieces: classic Lego Space at its best!
Jang...you have no idea what hides beneath that innocent smile.
Clearly!
JANGBRiCKS If your a Lego fan you'll know they're evil
I love those upside-down isosceles triforce signs on the sides! I like the color scheme and the design of the little spaceships.
I was laughing at how the set had a triforce on it

this set is great! i love what you pointed out with the corridors and columns. they really do create an 80's sci-fi feel.

Very thoughtful......
Good point
This was my 2nd big set as a kid, and I loved it! Still have it, might be digging it out of storage! Thanks for the nostalgia
Man, I love your show so much! Thank you for allowing me to see so clearly and in details sets that are either too old or expenssive for me to get my ands on. :)
I remember getting this set for Christmas in 1988, good times!
Still have this set along with my Renegade. Both sets are really nice with a lot of good parts. Thanks for sharing!
All the big spaces and shapes and the colors are so cool!
I loved this when I was young. Good old times. Much better than the sets from today.
This was one of the last sets I got back then. Loved it to bits.
I want a Blacktron vs Space Police videogame. :(
The cool thing I loved most about original Blacktron vs. Original Space Police was that you weren't REALLY sure who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. OMG I had this set back in the day... fun times growing up in the 80's!
My favorite set as a kid. Got this when I was 8 and had a hard time getting it together the first time.
That's an awesome set! The spaceship reminds me of a Star Wars gunship when the wings are down. And like you said, the visor up/visor down contrast was amazing. Great review!
Gahhhh, I used to have this set as a kid and I miss it! Really neat to see a 'modern' review of it.
The set is in great condition for a used set. Bit envious, I would love to have this set in such a good condition! Especially after watching your review. Never realized all the cool features of this set.
I love the way you interpret this base
I'm in love with this set haha. It's awesome looking.
My dad collected all the blacktron sets. They havent been taken apart once. They are so cool when put all together.
I would definietly like to see those more "3D" corridors with turns for the modern sets focused more on structures, such as police station, hospital, etc. Like you said (I think?), it really gives more depth to the structure in my eyes.
Blacktron were so cool, I wanted this so much as a kid.
Wow! That set looks massive! For it's time, it ain't bad :)
This was the flagship of my lego base as a kid. Still have some of the parts.. my son asked about the logo. 80's Blacktron ruled.
I wish Lego did more space bases. I'm pretty sure the last one was space police.
Whoa this is incredible!
Another nostalgic set. Part of me hopes that LEGO will remake this in either the City/Space line or the Star Wars line.
Justin Van Volkenburg They wouldn't have it in Star Wars because it's not from it, plus they're evil
A cool little thing about the buggy is that you cloud attach the accessories to the sides of it.
Tomatoe / tomotoe, in the south were I lived (Tennessee) they say oil different then we do in the north. Good job giving detail and displaying the set.
Personally I never had it but want it and the videp was a nice spoiler. Thanks Jang.
Always loved this Blacktron theme, shame it had so few sets.
Words cannot describe how much child-me in the 80s wants this. Too cool.
I begin to realize I was born too late. Love this set. I collected it piece-by-piece off Bricklink. Very cool.
I see the control tower function as a sort of emergency system. If the base gets infiltrated from one side, they can alert the other and commence the separation, thus stopping the attackers from reaching both sides of the base.
I want this now just so I can take it apart and make a big space ship.
Awesome review as usual! Thanks for sharing these awesome sets with us. :D
Thank you, and happy to!
Awesome build!
Awwwwweeeeesome man like the set!!!!! Can't wait to get it!!!
The set is so awesome
your videos are so good! thanks man.
Sure, there were a ton of huge, not-so-useful panel pieces. But man did these Blacktron I sets look *good*!
Blacktron!! \o/
Got several Blacktron ships from the first line but not this dreamset. You was a lucky kid if you got this base for your birthday.
This is so awesome!
I so much wanted this as a kid.
I wanted this set so bad during the 80s I remember seeing it built on display at TRU
Jang, it's very cool set!
I wish I had that set, it looks really cool, but nice video too
I, for one kinda like what they did for the siding on the rover. I have to agree that the rocket on the side looks a little awkward, but the trick they used for the siding I actually like a little bit!
Cool stuff reminds me of when l was a kid.. More blacktron please!
I'm too young to have had Blacktron, but this base is far superior to the smaller, more detailed sets now that don't have base plates.
I still got that in a box on the attic of my house. No parts missing. And the original packing und construction manual is still there. Greetings from Germany! Sry for my bad english...
I like the color scheme of the set.
Ah maaaan!! Blacktron was the most best thing. ;D
Oh my gosh, I had those baseplates as a kid! I always wondered where they came from, and now I wonder where they went...
As always, great review! Thx a lot. Well, this is surprising, i thought, you would stop reviewing LEGO Space for having collected all the LCS stuff you ever wanted.

Wow, i wish I which they still sold these. I kinda think the old Legos are much better then the new ones. This is a perfect example!
Very cool set!
Great i love blacktron!
Oh my gosh, watching this video made me figure out why that Benny's Spaceship from the Movie seems so "off" from the Classic Space theme: while it had the classic blue-gray-trans-yellow colours, it definitly had a Blacktron build. I was 5 when this first came out I remember seeing it in TRU in the 80s and wanting it so bad
I love It!
6:08 you can see a upside down triforce above jangs hand
Beautiful, bellissima!
I had this set and I'm kicking myself for not taking better care of the sets I owned as a kid. Those big trans-yellow window panels alone are worth like $30 now...
looks still good for its design
This was just one year before I got my first lego set. Oh what have I missed! **_**
lego should make a classics line where due to voting what sets people want back lego can remake those sets!
I agree that on the rover. It would have been nice to have a smooth rod but it gives me at least, a jeep-y feeling. With the rocket booster on the back, it just makes it feel more of a bad space rover.
*with
I *NEED* a Blacktron reboot!!!!!
Imagine a Blacktron rebooted base with over 1000 pieces
SOLD
even though i was not alive in the 80s or 90s
Always wanted this.
This base is still one of my lego dreams...
I recently saw this set in an unopened original box for around 800 € :D
Wow, it's so shiny! Was it brand new?
Either way Blacktron was certainly one of the coolest themes ever and the minifig remains one of the most solid designs.
cool jang
OMG!! that brings back some Memories!! Jang I was wondering if I can do a Video on our Channel building your Logo out of Lego Bricks in Stop Motion.

I like the lil buggy
yay for blacktron
I remember having the black spaceman with the cool robot torsos but never had any of there sets I think I got them in the police sets
Looks cool.
I had (temporarily) outgrown Lego by the time Blacktron and Futuron came along, but the Blacktron stuff is really nice looking. Way better than Futuron.
I hope you can review 6954 some time. It is one of the large ships on my wish list.
Just built this with a friend today.
BLACKTRON! YES! Blacktron. I love this theme. Its a shame that I was born in 1990 so I did not have these kind of sets in my childhood. Any chance of reviewing more sets from blacktron or better yet blacktron II?
On the blog post, Jang says he'll definitely get some more Blacktron sets.
Too bad these blacktron sets are super expensive! If they weren't so expensive, I would get these sets for sure!
Sad You didn't mention about hidden box under corridor. Also interesting information is that manual has mistake and there was errata added to manual for propre construction near corridor
"Transform this smiling space dude, and now he look incredibly evil"
Hey. I got this base as a child and i loved it.
Do you know if there exists an instruction for the walker or the spaceship which is printed on the cover?
Will u show the alternate build
0:25 .. is that an inverted triforce?
In real life, some radar dishes that send and receive signals from satellites and such can move on a track. They need to be as close as possible to their target. The moving part on this set isn't far fetched, it's to receive the messages better.
i have this! it was my favorite
Meraviglia!
I guess the quarter dome section is movable so that you can properly intercept messages. It would be a shame if that huge dish missed them, right?
