Jang - those 80's pieces you talk about were included in lots of sets up until the 2000's. As a 90's kid who lived through this era of LEGO those are the pieces I remember with fond memory! Those preassembled hinges were the best!
This was one of my most wanted sets growing up as a kid. I massed a good handful of the Insectoid sets over time but this was the one I always wanted the most.
This is perfect. Several toys in one, lights and sounds, great light-piping, cool figures, moving and functional parts. A veritable feast for kids' imagination. And yep, there's indeed a dragonfly in there.
Fun fact, if you hold down on the middle button of that electronic piece, it will make a sound similar to a jet engine that builds up sound like it is taking off. I found a whole bunch of those pieces at the Atlanta Brick Co. for $2 each.
What's really cool about the noisemaker piece is that if you kept the middle button pressed the sound&lights would increase in pitch and intensity then slowly wind down again.
I had this set when I was a kid. On the sound module you can actually hold the big button down to get a sound effect of the engine revving up and then once you release the button it slows down again.
This is amazing! If this came out today with no changes I would buy it in a heartbeat. Brilliant! I only had some very small sets from this time and didn't even know this existed. So rad!
Great Review, thx a lot for a huge nostalgic throwback. I had some Insectoids sets, too. Those and the UFO series had the best Minifigs , imho, apart from the underwater sets, which were also very cool and could serve as space-figures as well. Was a great time back then.
Love the retro reviews, you should do more of them if you have the time! I never had this particular set, but I sure as hell remember the line. Insectoids and UFO were really the end of a certain kind of set for LEGO.
Gypsy Moth figure is my favorite ever I recently picked her up. I had a few sets from my cousin, when he realized he was too old for legos. I am now 20 and these sets are older than me haha
I hope you review more Insectoids sets! This took me way back to my early lego days. I remember I had the 6907 Sonic Stinger set that had the same light up noisemaking piece and I always thought it was so cool with all the transparent blue and green pieces. I don't have any clue where all of the pieces are now but some of those bits still hang around in my builds of today! Some of the minifigure pieces even lived on as cyborg bounty hunters I used when playing with my Star Wars legos.
Mostly, because the printed parts were used in more than one set. In this case (and some others), they'd have had to print on transparent foil and it would have looked really bad. But don't take me for a sticker fan, though, they usualy just make a unique design available cheaply - at the cost of the looks ;)
Very unusual Lego theme, and I like it! And you don't see many of these special pieces in future sets, even that light and sound gimmick is not present in any future sets (to my knowledge), making this one very unique, and I love the color scheme as well, must glow like crazy using a black light! Awesome review, Jang!
In the US the only Zotaxians to have names were Danny Longlegs and Gypsy Moth, but UK and Germany had names for all of 'em, they just arent super well documented on sites like Brickipedia! In this set, you've got Professor Webb and Corporal Steel (aka Danny Longlegs).
I loved this thing as a kid and I still love it today. I especially love the figures! I got only one of the small sets from this theme when I was little. The insectoid design of the vehicles was really cool though.
Really awesome looking set, I was really into mars mission and space police so I know I would've loved this when I was younger, slightly makes me think of War Of The World's, the more original Tripod with the green bug eyes
Love your vintage reviews, especially Classic Space. Would love to see you do the rest of the blacktron and blacktron II series as well as Futureon and Unitron.
Oh my gosh, I had this when I was a kid, I've been trying to find what it was called for a long time! I would have been 4 when it came out, I guess my Dad must have built the thing for me :')
I had the Lego System 6907 Sonic Stinger as i child, i thought of it again and startet searching old boxes. Found it in best condition with the original box in my closet. Buried treasure! Will you review that too?
Great video as always. I loved this theme but never had this set as a kid. You missed what happens when you hold down the square button on the light and sound piece.
Keeping your finger on the center button, the tone will rise ao that you will get the impression of a taking-offf engine. The light effect looks a bit better in less bright places.
I have a ton of these kinds of old space and deep sea sets from the 90’s, and while I loved them at the time, the pieces don’t really lend themselves to the kinds of MOCs I make today...
I love the "old" space sets: Space Police, Spyrius, Ice Planet, Exploriens, UFO, and Mars Mission to name a few. I wish Lego would come up with their own space IP again instead relying on the failing Star Wars franchise.
Despite the low part count, I wonder how this compares in terms of weights and bulk to modern $120/$130 vehicle sets (inflation puts it at $123.68 USD)?
Hello, JANGBRiCKS! This looked like a cool set back in its day. To me, this set still looks cool to this day, but in a different way. Back then, it must've looked really futuristic, and felt unreal. But now, it has this old-school futuristic feel. You did a great job reviewing this set. That was a cool little side-story with your former-neighbor remembering this set from his childhood. Have a good day, sir! Regards, Joseph cheeseinthepie. 9/4/2018
Because licensing took over completely at Lego. I don't care for Star Wars at all, but because of that license we're not likely to get any of these cool classic space type themes.
I own this set followed by Ice planet spacecraft (1993), Explorer ( 1996) and UFO ( 1997). To me, the best thing in this series is the level of resemblance on various insects and the color theme is appealing. But the adoption of big bulky pieces adversely affect the playability and potential creativity of this set. Fortunately LEGO now goes to the right direction with more sophisticated design than using ‘ one big piece’ , And I really miss original LEGO space series,
I feel like Lego does not make original themes like they used to. If I was old enough to be kid when this set was around I can tell I would of had too much fun with this. It has so many play possibilities and it is fantastically original.
Did you hold the main button down for a while? on my one, when you do that, the pitch of the engine sound changes, giving a great 'taking off and flying' sound... and when you push the laser/insect sounds, and release, it continues the engine sound where it left off
i should still have some of the printed console tiles, and a torso and helmet of one of the smallest sets from back in the day, honestly i have the minifig but without one arm set name was bug blaster
Minifigs in this period were freaking amazing, especially helmets and shoulder pad pieces.
Jang - those 80's pieces you talk about were included in lots of sets up until the 2000's. As a 90's kid who lived through this era of LEGO those are the pieces I remember with fond memory! Those preassembled hinges were the best!
That voice, it's so calming
This was one of my most wanted sets growing up as a kid. I massed a good handful of the Insectoid sets over time but this was the one I always wanted the most.
I love how LEGO made sets with simple designs but a lot of things to do
This is perfect.
They should reboot this theme. My friends and I loved this series and Rock Raiders the most.
The nostalgia is strong with this one, always wanted one as a kid! Thanks Jang!
with the legs backwards I can also see a frog in the wheeled part.
WOW! this is one of THE best sets I've ever seen from LEGO. Outstanding!
I had rocket engine from 2000 similar to that flashy part. You're right. Kids love such things. Their moms doesn't. :P
Loving these old sets right now. Just got delivered and I built set 6386 police station today from 1986. First set I remember my parents giving me
Rare image of Just2Good's grandfather
The insectoids and UFO series are my favourite sets 😃👍
The UFO and the Wild west qas my favorite theme . I used the ufo minifigure has the predator vs the cow boy. Good old time.
This is bringing back memories. I love these reviews of classic sets. Reminds me of the good old days.
What's really cool about the noisemaker piece is that if you kept the middle button pressed the sound&lights would increase in pitch and intensity then slowly wind down again.
The aliens look abstract and awesome! I also like the grey ones where one of them looks like they came out of an anime!
I had this set when I was a kid. On the sound module you can actually hold the big button down to get a sound effect of the engine revving up and then once you release the button it slows down again.
First set I ever got, just before the first Millenium Falcon. Both of those hooked me to LEGO for life!
This is amazing! If this came out today with no changes I would buy it in a heartbeat. Brilliant! I only had some very small sets from this time and didn't even know this existed. So rad!
I might had this set, not quite sure but it definitely still looks cool
I do love all those all school sets
Great Review, thx a lot for a huge nostalgic throwback. I had some Insectoids sets, too. Those and the UFO series had the best Minifigs , imho, apart from the underwater sets, which were also very cool and could serve as space-figures as well. Was a great time back then.
Great to see you covering Insectoids. It's a theme I love deeply.
Love the retro reviews, you should do more of them if you have the time! I never had this particular set, but I sure as hell remember the line. Insectoids and UFO were really the end of a certain kind of set for LEGO.
Man, I remember this set. Loved the green and those helmets were my favorite
I loved looking at sets from this theme in catalogs back in the day.
Gypsy Moth figure is my favorite ever I recently picked her up. I had a few sets from my cousin, when he realized he was too old for legos. I am now 20 and these sets are older than me haha
I have a few Parts from that Theme, collected from Fleamarket and stuff. Always loved this Theme and it also was in Lego Racers
Nice
I hope you review more Insectoids sets! This took me way back to my early lego days. I remember I had the 6907 Sonic Stinger set that had the same light up noisemaking piece and I always thought it was so cool with all the transparent blue and green pieces.
I don't have any clue where all of the pieces are now but some of those bits still hang around in my builds of today! Some of the minifigure pieces even lived on as cyborg bounty hunters I used when playing with my Star Wars legos.
Ah yes, more nostalgia for me
Man, Insectoids were so cool. Unfortunately I don't have this bad boy, but it's definitely a highlight of the line.
I would totally buy this thing it looks awesome
In the past they were generous with prints
Mostly, because the printed parts were used in more than one set. In this case (and some others), they'd have had to print on transparent foil and it would have looked really bad. But don't take me for a sticker fan, though, they usualy just make a unique design available cheaply - at the cost of the looks ;)
I would have loved this as a kid, as it screams neon. I like this build.
Very unusual Lego theme, and I like it! And you don't see many of these special pieces in future sets, even that light and sound gimmick is not present in any future sets (to my knowledge), making this one very unique, and I love the color scheme as well, must glow like crazy using a black light! Awesome review, Jang!
More old stuff please!
Oh man, Insectoids were my childhood!
Nice! Really looking forward for possible Exploriens set reviews, especially the big space ship : )
The alien cyborg helmets look like they could've been used as a Zuckuss head mold
You're right xD
i wish LEGO would still use magnets, they were ingenious!
Hi! I have this set and every time I look at it comes to mind when I was little, it's very interesting and full of details
I always have this set from my childhood ❤️!
I had the wasp starfighter set which also had the light & sound piece as a kid, and I can confirm, it was a fun piece to own!
i remember seeing this on in one of those lego toy books when i was little...god...i kinda wanted this back then.
Old lego toys were the best! Zoids were amazing too.
I love the Insectoid series. I am in the process of seeking out the final few pieces to complete this very set.
Ay! I have that set sitting right behind me, right now (and it's real dusty)! I loved the Insectoid sets as a kid (and still do).
Yesssss, keep the 90's Space reviews coming!
I received this as a gift Christmas '98. Pure nostalgia.
I still have the whole Insectoids series. Love them
I loved this thing as a kid and I still love it today. I especially love the figures! I got only one of the small sets from this theme when I was little. The insectoid design of the vehicles was really cool though.
This set and theme are awesome.
To me, that set looks ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Good review Jang.
Really awesome looking set, I was really into mars mission and space police so I know I would've loved this when I was younger, slightly makes me think of War Of The World's, the more original Tripod with the green bug eyes
this makes my skin crawl
it's creepy especially the sound it makes lol
Nice review. I remember this set. I never had it but I had a few of their others sets in the series. They were a lot of fun to play with.

7:00 If you hold the 'engine sound' button it changes pitch, making it sound like it's charging its engines.
These sets are incredible!!!!!! Please make a video with the whole insectoid collection!
Finally something classic!
Electric blue and neon yellow..... Lego's colour pallet was way better back in the day!
BB ll ya
It's actually green, not yellow.
Mainly because they used most 4 colored bricks, not like tody where they put like 8.
To this date this is one of the best mobile base sets.
I would love to have this set :( I miss the old sets.. like the Alien ones from the early 2000s
There’s a few on eBay at the moment, I got one 👍😃
Put this in meleby district
I love you Jang
Are u girl
Great video as always. I loved this theme but never had this set as a kid.
You missed what happens when you hold down the square button on the light and sound piece.
Keeping your finger on the center button, the tone will rise ao that you will get the impression of a taking-offf engine. The light effect looks a bit better in less bright places.
Never seen this set before. Great review.
Definitely still got the instructions and all the pieces in the loft! Hopefully the light and sound still works.
One of the few good themes to come out of the years when Lego went crazy.
I had dragonfly from this theme sets. It was rly one of a kind
I have a ton of these kinds of old space and deep sea sets from the 90’s, and while I loved them at the time, the pieces don’t really lend themselves to the kinds of MOCs I make today...
Yes thank you so much!!! Finally a good review on this set!!!!!!!
I love the "old" space sets: Space Police, Spyrius, Ice Planet, Exploriens, UFO, and Mars Mission to name a few. I wish Lego would come up with their own space IP again instead relying on the failing Star Wars franchise.
absolutely love it!
Looks awesome
Very interesting built
Hey jang I'd like to see you review the 2018 LEGO eleves sets. I also really like these throwback reviews keep them coming.
Love the old set reviews keep it up 👍
Despite the low part count, I wonder how this compares in terms of weights and bulk to modern $120/$130 vehicle sets (inflation puts it at $123.68 USD)?

Why the best lego sets (like this) are no longer on sale :(
Because licensing took over completely at Lego. I don't care for Star Wars at all, but because of that license we're not likely to get any of these cool classic space type themes.
Now I love Star Wars, but agree that sets like this are amazing :)
Super cool.
Getting this as a parts pack for the cyberpunk city was a smart move
6:23 you say wings, i say it looks like the back of a dragonfly somehow
That's what I was thinking.
I own this set followed by Ice planet spacecraft (1993), Explorer ( 1996) and UFO ( 1997). To me, the best thing in this series is the level of resemblance on various insects and the color theme is appealing. This set is really meant for play
My parents bought it for me when I was 9 as a reward for doing well in my exams. :)
7:34 Manas
If you hold the middle button, the sound will pitch up, if I remember correctly
Did you hold the main button down for a while? on my one, when you do that, the pitch of the engine sound changes, giving a great 'taking off and flying' sound... and when you push the laser/insect sounds, and release, it continues the engine sound where it left off
lego should go back to these type of sets.
Man I miss the Insectoids line SO much.
i should still have some of the printed console tiles, and a torso and helmet of one of the smallest sets from back in the day, honestly i have the minifig but without one arm
set name was bug blaster
