Welcome to Form Fight! Here we look at Pokémon with more than one form, we take a look at the differences between those forms and try to decide which Pokémon form really is the best! We also make the Pokémon forms battle it out in a Metronome battle so we can get an idea of how these Pokémon look in action!
In this episode we're looking at the Fox Pokémon, Marowak, and it's two forms: Kantonian Ninetales and Alolan Ninetales! Let's see which of these gorgeous Pokémon is the best of these Pokémon forms!

True, on its own Alolatales has a slightly better movepool with better coverage. But there's two problems, one that evens the odds and one that turns the tables.
First off, BOTH forms suffer from the same problem that Ninetales has had ever since 2nd gen - the fact that their Special stat was converted to Special Defense and not Special Attack. Because of this, Ninetales has generally been relegated to a support role as its damage output just isn't that good.
Second, Alolatales' weather ability, Snow Warning, is worse than that of its fiery kin's. The problem is that Hale is just not a good weather condition. Ice is a weak type in general that's been terribly mishandled by Game Freak (STOP MAKING BULKY ICE TYPES WHEN ICE HAS SO MANY WEAKNESSES!!!), and hail only benefits that type. Furthermore, unless you're running Blizzard, Alolatales doesn't benefit from hail anyway since it's not a staller, wall or tank and hail doesn't give a damage bonus. For comparison, regular Ninetales with Drought not only does the job of setting up sun, but it also helps make up for its less than spectacular special attack stat by giving its fire type attacks a 50% boost in power, and also makes it more survivable against water types by halving the power of water type attacks. And sun's just a better weather condition due to the above bonuses plus the boost to some healing moves and the ability to use solar beam in one turn (and Ninetales can learn Solar Beam, so you can flip off those water types even more while also having an answer to rock and ground types).
Ultimately, this gives regular Ninetales the edge when considering which one to actually run on a team.

I really enjoy this series Liam. Once the Alolan forms have been covered it would be fun if you covered other Pokémon forms such as Shaymin, Giratina, Deoxys, Wormadam, Rotom etc. I think it would be a good way to diversify the series. Keep up the good work mate! 😉✌🏼

Foxes arent actually dogs. They're in the Vulpine family, which is where Vulpix's name derives from.

Vulpes is actually the genus, and the family is canidae, so foxes are canines.
There is no Vulpine Family. Foxes are part of the Canidae Family and they're in the Vulpes Genus. 'Vulpine' is actually a descriptive word describing something as basically fox like (as in being crafty like a fox). However what you are actually thinking of is that dogs and wolves are classified in the genus Canis while Foxes are in Vulpes. And yes Dogs and Foxes are different, that is correct. But not all Canine are dogs, some are foxes.

Winter is my favorite season so ice is my favorite type! So of course I prefer the Alolan Ninetails. Although I preferred the Ice/Steel typing of the Alolan Sandslash for my party.

Great series so far. Love the breakdowns. This is the first one where I've had a favourite form in the alolan so that battle was pretty tense.
Don't know how ahead you've planned but I'd be interested to see the charizard and mewtwo mega evolutions seen as they get an x and y version.

I prefer the Kanto forme Ninetales, and the shiny is just perfect. I have a fondness for Kyuubii, so I enjoyed that it was one of the Gen 1 Pokémon, and Vulpix reminded me of Kiara of Inuyasha, so she was in my original top 10.

My personal favorite is Alolan Ninetales, not only do I have so much fun battling with it, all that fur to protect against the cold, all be it probably not usually as it’s an ice type, looks so fluffy and warm!
Ninetales is my 19th most favorite Pokémon it wasn’t before I saw its alolan form. However when I saw its alolan form I just said “Now I love ninetales so much more than I did before.” So it makes me so happy to see Liam compare these two.

I don’t have a fav out off the two as ninetales is one of my all time favorites. I love both and would double battle with them.
I've made it a habit to include Kanto Ninetales in my team purely as a counter, I love the original form in its entirety. You have the raw sun boosted fire blast / flamethrower, solar beam for your harder counters, and drought switch in cancels out other weather conditions meaning it's sometimes a nifty Tyranitar and Pelipper counter as well. On top of that, because most trainers immediately assume they can just carry out their alolan ninetales and their aurora veil strats, you switch in yours for a free safe turn, meaning either they hit you with both stab moves being fully resisted, or they switch (most likely).
The BEST metronome battle so far. What a great idea, these videos are informative and fun!

I grew up with pokemon and my first favorite was always the fire type ninetals than I found more pokemon I like and strange they were all fire type pokemon so I became a fire type pokemon trainer but there was other types out there that I like that was not fire but only a few than the pokemon sun and moon came out I was shock they made a ice and fairy type ninetals which it is pretty I do not hate it at all but I will be true to the first form of ninetals I layed on and always when I see when in the game I flip out wanting to get it. thanks so much for this video I do have both these forms in my pokemon ultra sun came but not the shinys of them. keep doing videos of these

Ninetales is my favourite Fire type, and Alolan Ninetales is equally majestic and beautiful.
Ninetales is my favorite pokemon across all 8 generations, and while I prefer Kanto, for sheer nostalgia (that shiny is EVERYTHING!) I am also a huge fan of the Alolan variety. This battle was just as epic as the Pokemon are.
