First ride out on my new Royal Enfield Himalayan just riding a few lanes close to me. I'm using the bike to lead guided tours this year and so far I like the bike.
My 22 year old son passed his basic CBT and gained his learners' permit and has been riding the 2017 Suzuki DR200 SE he bought. The DR is a great dirt/trail bike but struggles on the open road. We have lots of open road here in Australia. I took him to the Dealership to see if it 'fits' him. It did and we ordered one on the spot. $7000 Aussie Dollars on the road for a year with a two year roadside assist.. I can't wait to have a ride myself. I traded my 2012 F800ST BMW in on a 2015 F700GS so we can do some all roads touring and exploring as father and son. Happy Days indeed!
Well, I've just taken on the Royal Enfield franchise in Peterborough. The Himalayan has attracted more interest and demos than any of the other models and is a cracking bike to ride.
I really want this bike, I'm so happy you've done a great review on it, I think it's perfect for me to tour the country wildcamping with all the other RUclipsrs , I'm currently on a 98 Honda xr 250 so I'm not a speed freak, I just want reliability and rideability, some fun and the ability to carry some gear and I think this bike has all for me and for 4 grad! Shut up and take my money! Great vid mate just subbed ya .
Great vid thanks - impressed with your ride. Completely agree with your take on the bike - had mine a few weeks and love it. Looking forward to getting out on Salisbury Plain soon.
Loved every minute of that. I've just had my UK himalayan in for its 300 mile service and so far have only had it down 1 green lane. Have to say though my off road skills are zero and wouldn't be able to ride anywhere near as confidently as you just did on that trail. I was also drawn to the bike by its utilitarian looks and back to basic qualities but after buying one it has way surpassed what I expected of it. Cracking bike. Hope you feature it in some more vids.
Well I hope this bike does well for Royal Enfield, it’s built for a purpose and I can see its appeal, and it is amazing for that price! Fuelling and gearboxes can literally ruin what otherwise is a good bike, doesn’t matter which manufacturer, but glad to see multiple reviews complementing the Himalayan on both of these points, so far I’m fully impressed with what it offers.
Thanks for the review, hope she is still bringing a smile to your face. The more I see of this bike the more I like it. I am desperate to get back on 2 wheels, for fun mind, and I really don't want the possible grief of going with a 2nd hand gimptree bike and spending more time waiting for parts to arrive than riding it. The super cheap Sinnis Terrain with all it's top boxes and glitz drew me for a while but I just don't think a 125 will have enough grunt to drag my fat arse aboot. I really like that I could buy this, and that's would be that! No buggering about trading in a year later, it will do the job and probably with the 'just for the fun of it' miles I put on it probably last till I can't ride because I can't climb out my damn coffin..
you nailed it Nate.. my sentiments exactly. If you appreciate the bike for what is is and don't set it up for failure (expecting 80mph), you'll love it. I still think it's the best looking bike out there. 😁
I’m in the US, Nor-Cal, and I’m very interested in the Himalayan’s release later this year in the States. I’m older, not riding as aggressively as I used to and think this bike would be perfect for our fire trails.
Same here. Though I am in Sydney Australia. The fire trails close by are mountain bike only, which is fine. But I can see this working well further away from town.
First saw on of these in Tansen near Kathmandhu in 2016 I like it and if I had £4k to spend on a new bike I'd have one. I like the chunky looks and frill-free styling of the bike and I'm thinking it will be well suited to steady trail riding, much like you were doing, not enduro riding - which is what gets UK trail riders a bad name anyway with dickheads riding way too fast on green lanes. It deserves to find its niche and be a success.
Hey folks, can some please confirm if the UK edition of the Himalayan gets a switchable ABS or is it fixed. Also if some one could some more light on the ABS part.
I wish they'd hurry up and release the new 650cc version. Hopefully we'll see more bhp. 60-70bhp would be perfect for road cruising and of road especially 2 up with panniers..
Mine's due in for its first service this week so at the minute I've been running it in and haven't tackled motorways. From what I've gathered they will happily cruise at 70mph and top out at around 80mph. I think then you'd be fine for motorways, you'd just have to accept that you weren't going to be flying down the outside lane. From what I've gathered so far the screen isn't the best, so you might also get a bit of buffeting at constant motorway speeds which you might want to address.

Love it. The summary especially - chuffed you're pleased with it.

Great video of an excellent review of this new to UK bike.

Great review, thanks and totally agree with your reasoning for buying such a bike..spot on.

Great review, especially considering your healing ankle, and you're able to talk while riding off road. Cheers!
First rate review, answered a lot of my questions and a few more I didn't know I had...
good on ya mate!!! From Canada .
Very good video , there is definitely something I like about this bike....... :-)
I own a GSA and would really like this a second bike...great feedback Nathan loving your videos!
Nice video, love the Himalayan!
Looking forward to seeing how you get along with it.
Good review..I'm going to px my CRF 250l for one next week.
Great review..Try the TKC80 Tyres..you will love them although a bit expensive...

I have one since may 2019, toured around 4k kms on it so far, love it off road and on!
I m using it for past 1.5 years ( India) and quite happy with it .
I really like this bike! The plan is to do the Trans America Trail in sections as time allows, and I think this is the bike for the job.

I own one it's a good beast.

Nope i don't think it still does. Most people don't seem to say so.
been few factory recall for himalayan in india, wondering did they fix it for himalayan overseas/export market..
Yup. They took an 8 month breather to set things right.
What's the mpg like? The newer versions have ironed out the earlier problems I hope?
Also I'm 6ft 2 would this be uncomfortable the seat height seems low
I'm 6 2 and 215lbs.. no complaints and no issues with power.. I prefer to take it all in and smell the coffee.
5 star review !!!
Lol barely disguised enthusiasm!! good one mate...

Not going to happen I don't think. Something better though from what I can gather. A big twin would ruin the Himalayan.
@@nathanthepostman Any hints? ;)
A bigger long stroke single engine would be nice
Would it be ok on motorway?

Will do 70 mph all day long.
Jayanth Kumar check out "Seattle to Alaska".. Justin rode most of the 2800 miles at 75mph right off the showroom floor! and never hit a moose.
Yes! It's built for touring, but the sweet spot is between 80 to 95 kmph. The seating posture and stance is ideal for long hours in the saddle
Will it cruise at 60mph comfortably all day on the tarmac, please?
Yes, very easily. It'll cruise at 70mph generally.
Cheers!
100 more cc and 5 - 10 more horsepowers and it would be perfect.
Robert Keick I am sure there will be aftermarket ecu units
Robert Keick there is an 650 cc 47 bhp 60 nm model on the making
Nathan - where to find trails like that what is not private road ? London-Essex base
