I have a sleep tip to add. Before I get into bed, I take a cotton-topped stick and rub it in scented lip balm and the rub it on the inner rim of my nostrils. The scent from the lip balm warns my brain that I getting ready to sleep. Pavlov does the rest. Scent, sleep. Scent, sleep, Scent, sleep. And the lip balm helps keep little dust motes in the air from irritating my throat and waking me up.

CHESS - So true. After loosing my last 25 pounds on keto I realized I am addicted to carbohydrates. It has been the most stressful journey, filled with intense cravings (which I never experienced, because I always ate garbage following SAD). I had what seemed like everything in order to live healthy only I was resisting meditation/spirituality. I started following Eckhart Tolle 6 months ago and my cravings are gone. My life is wonderful and I feel great. Truly grateful for you Dr. Cywes, and all the wonderful teachers. I never knew I could feel as good as I do! Amazing.

Dr. Cywes, I steal from you too. My favorite mantra is "addicts don't get a cheat day", and it has helped me enormously in weak moments. It is also a good reply to food pushers. They understand and empathize immediately. Most of us have addictions and abuses in some form.

I love eating carnivore. The problem is my 92 year old mom is living with us. She eats 4-6 times a day. She has to have juice in the morning, loves vegetables, a sweet after dinner, and snack stuff. She enjoys going out to dinner. My husband and I are eating one meal a day in the evening, mostly a steak. We have dinner together at night. I try hard to stick to my plan but I have to make a second dinner. My husband eats whatever is in front of him. I almost have to prepare food with the mind set of feeding my dogs. Still it adds a stress of what am I going to make and planning on shopping.

After about 3 weeks of giving up any addiction you start suffering from post acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS). It's an awful experience akin depression from grieving a loss. It's as if you're grieving the loss of the addiction and the brain has to rewire. Depressive episodes on average last 6 to 8 months but I firmly believe the brain heals much faster and with reduced sypmtoms when it's fed with ketones and DHA.

I may still workout or go for a long walk later in the day, but I feel better if I do my workout first thing! Sleep is something I'm working on - it's the habit part that I'm working on. I start my day with a devotional and prayer and end it with prayer/Bible reading. It really does set my day on the right path, and also ends my day on the right path.

Hit it right on the head. "Algorithm medicine" I was wondering why my doctors had absolutely no scientific curiosity about the things I would tell about my aliments. They do not listen to you at all. This is ultimately what is at the end of the principle of "first do no harm." A good starting point for not killing you clients, yes, but if is the only point, then there can never be real science, because science requires mistakes every now and then. The fear of malpractice lawsuits have only reinforced this tendency. So you don't get a doctor, you get a robot that goes down a tried and true path no matter what happens to the patient during the process as long as the doctor is following the prescribed path.

About 5 weeks ago I learned about the keto life style and immediately got into it. I have liberated myself from a significant amount of carbohydrates and feel very good about it. A week ago I celebrated my 51st birthday and my mother-in-law baked me a delicious cake that I've always enjoyed, not realizing there was so much "bad" in it. Of course, I ate it without flinching so as not to make her uncomfortable, but the next day I had some remorse. Then I watched some more of your material and came to the conclusion that it absolutely didn't matter, because such incidents won't turn me back from the keto path. I eat less, although always to satiety, I probably have even more strength, because I commute 10 km to work by bicycle every day, and I don't feel weak, I'm no longer drawn to sweets, chips or other unhealthy snacks, I sleep better, although still not for very long, even for an evening drink I no longer crave. How good that sex continues to please :D
After your lecture today, I will complete some aspects in terms of CHESSS. This is a very interesting formula.
Btw, I live in Poland and I get up at 04h30 ;)

Hi Dr. Cywes, great seeing you today! Thanks again for your support and guidance. I routinely wake-up @ 5-5:30 and typically get 7-8 hours of sleep. 20 years ago I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. It's one of the factors that contributed to my weight gain (along with stress of being in the "bomb run" @ Apple for 20 years:-) So important that people get screened, since weight gain can exacerbate this condition. My mentor, Steve Jobs loved quoting Picasso - "Good artist copy, great artists steal." CHESS makes a lot of sense - I feel grateful to be following a protocol that comes close. With your encouragement, I'm back on track and hope to make more progress. As SJ liked to say, "The Journey is the Reward".

I'm not KETO any more, but definitely still low carb, and just as important only as whole grains as I can get. And truly no sugar. These are all good ideas. In addition a big one for me was questioning the entire premise of whether sugar and processed grains were needed for an enjoyable (food) life. Turns out no, there aren't needed. In truth, once I got rid off my drug of choice, sugar, real foods started tasting better than ever. I wasn't able to enjoy food as much because my drug was blocking it!

I love your videos. After being 100% keto for the last 4 1/2 years, I couldn’t break through the plateau that started after the first year. Even though I’ve kept the 40 pounds off, I have 30 to go. I’m in ketosis ALL of the time based on my Keto-Mojo. I finally decided to go to a weight loss physician to see what else I could possibly do. And granted I’m 58, and I take estrogen and progesterone. I know that doesn’t help…. But I joined a gym this week. And also decided to try a weight loss physician. She prescribed me contrave. This pill is said to have a lot of side effects, so far I have some but they are worth it. I am wondering where this pill has been all my life. In just two days my need for stress snacking at work has gone way down, and also my cravings for alcohol, which has been MY addiction all my life. I’ve only been on this thing a few days, but I think that it’s a miracle for me. I hope it continues, and Rob( I’m a Dr. Too, a vet so I understand Latin… lol! ) I don’t think you talk about weight loss medication’s very much, but maybe there’s somebody else out there that will be as lucky as I am to find this drug. I was only drinking those no carb seltzers, and only on weekends, but I would binge on weekends. I hope I really have Found my magic elixir. We’ll see. I’ll have to update you all after I’ve been on it for a while.
