thats what I thought it seems like she belonged to maybe a young person who got caught up in their parents problems the whole thing really upset me not just the neglect of the spider but thinking what mightve caused it 😢
Deja vu! My Rose Hair came to me via a similar situation. She was abandoned at a little pet store I go to. The owner said that he came in one day and she was sitting by the front door in her tank. It had about one inch of very old packed web covered dirt, no water bowl and no hide. There were a couple of carapace from previous Molt's so I know she had been in there for a long time. She is very old because I have had her for two years now and she has never melted in my care. She has never thrown with threat posture and as often as not when I open the enclosure I have her in now she will very daintily come out and she likes to just hang out on my hand for a while. Very sweet girl that somebody got bored with. Their loss but my gain. I love her so much. Rosie is such a sweetheart!
John Brazell That’s really amazing. I’ve been working on my ‘love’ for spiders for years. I’m finally at the point where I want to learn more about them, keeping them, etc. They’re so incredibly beautiful.
That´s so sad... From the drawing on it, I would probably say, it was the pet of a kid and the parents left it there... I personaly like to keep my spiders in bigger enclosures than they need, but I´m also feeding my spiders with tweezers, so they don´t have problems finding food. It doesn´t look like the owner checked if she ate or not. She got a way better home now so thank you for adopting her =)
The general attitude toward spiders is so bad a lot of people think 'it's just a spider who cares' I encounter those people with snakes aswell and it's sad but they say they love all animals. I've spent a couple of thousand at the vet alone on my snakes over the years I recently lost my jungle carpet with heart disease and my gorgeous diamond and even my vet cried. If people get a pet they have to be willing to care for it properly. Just want to say Kat I love your videos and I hope they help change some attitudes toward spiders the level of care you show them is awesome. Thanks for saving her!
I mean…. Nyx, my Brazilian Black (G. Pulchra), is in a 10 gallon with plenty of substrate to burrow (which she did) and she still roams around quite a bit…. She’s very weird but I love her! Also it’s sad how people just do that with animals! At least now she’s safer with you.
My brother's first tarantula was a mexican red-knee and she was a sweetheart, as well!!! I find them so chill and she was so gentle when we handled her. ACK I'm so happy you saved this little girl
Peaches seems like a Pretty Chilled out girl, plus she's a real Beauty... Thank GOODNESS SHE WAS FOUND BY CARING PPL AND YOU ADOPTED HER..SHE IS A LUCKY GIRL TO HAVE YOU CARING FOR HER PROPERLY, AND GIVING HER LOVE AND RESPECT... SHAME ON THOSE PPL THAT CAN ABANDON AN ANIMAL JUST LIKE THAT .. DIDN'T EVEN TAKE THE TIME TO TRY AND FIND PEACHES A SUITABLE HOME. CONGRATULATIONS TARANTULA KAT ON THE NEW ADDITION TO YOUR FAMILY. YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD PERSON, WITH A CARING HEART.
It's honestly mind boggling to me how people can just abandon animals. 😲 I just, I- I don't know, I just can't even fathom... But omg, what a sweet heart!!! How is it that her and Dumpster Tarantula are both just like, the sweetest ever? She's absolutely gorgeous, and Peaches is so perfect for her name, and, ugh, I could go on and on. So glad she ended up with you, and I can't wait to see her journey 💙💙💙
Omg!!! So this is how u git her omg she's so sweet woooow I love that I know her story now!!! U make me laugh u did a grate job and yeah she definitely has been eating no issue😍
Ahh Peaches is a perfect name for her. I truly hope she does ok. It makes me mad when any animal is abandoned like that. Thank god she is in your hands now hun.
I feel you. I was a newbie T- keeper, and only had one avicularia as a "tree" species. The pet store that we get our snake food from, asked if we would take a T from a lady that was bitten twice and didn't want it anymore.... it was a P. Regalis, the enclosure was filthy, full of poop dead hoppers no waterdish . I her home, poor girl was close to death. I was terrified, after the horror stories the former owner told about her aggressive behavior, and research on the species. Luckily the rehouse went smooth, and she is with me ever since ,and I have never regretted getting her
Wow! So many disturbing things to unpack in your comment! I mean, it sounds like she _really_ needed some training on how to safely interact with Ts, especially fast, bolty, defensive ones with potent venom. And can you imagine being bit by a pokie not once, but *_twice_* ?! Yikes! 😓😱 Then there is the sad state of the poor T... heartbreaking! 😟😦 By the way, did you mean dead grasshoppers, or dead hoppers as in baby mice/rats? Either way is bad for a number of different reasons, of course, but if there was a bunch of dead vertebrate corpses- ugh, the smell! 😝🤢 Thank you for taking her in! I'm so happy it's worked out well for both of you! (Or all _three_ of you, if you include the original owner. 😉 I'm glad she realized it'd be better to rehome her spider, too.) 😄
I have bad arachnophobia but since I was younger I have always had a fascination and awe of the red knee tarantula I think the bright orange colour and some of the docile nature documented just caused me to fall for they’re intriguing life 😁
tarantulas are really good at surviving long times w/ out food or water, especially slow ones like grammostolas or brachypelmas that take a very long time to grow or moult etc. her abdomen even looks quite fat still. ofc its never an excuse for neglect but if it started out well fed and full of water a spider like that could easily go a year w/ out eating
She's beautiful! I just got my Mexican Red Knee sling a week ago and I already love them and would never abandon them. I know peaches will have a better life with you ❤️
I'm not a tarantella person, although I've been watching videos like this for about a week now. But this is just heartbreaking. I can not believe that anyone can leave their pet, for whatever reason. Fortunately, she has now got a wonderful beautiful new home.
She must be sooo happy now she's with you and has a lovely new home! She was incredibly well behaved! It's almost like she knew that you were helping her.
Awww!! So happy she was rescued! Little vulnerable orphan 😭 I’m not crazy about that water dish. It seems a bit close to the opening of her hide, like she’ll have to walk in it it go inside. But congrats on your newest friend!! ❤️🍑🍑🍑
What a beauty. It’s so good she’ll be safe in a good home. I got a Grammostola rosea mature female off Kijiji that was not in a proper set up with no water and bone dry substrate. And the enclosure was filthy... so I bought her and rehoused her in a more suitable enclosure and she seems to be thriving so far. I named her Lydia Deetz.
Hi I just watched your video on this gorgeous girl and I can’t believe how they kept her like so heart breaking and I’m so glad she will be well looked after by you x
I'm nervous around large spiders and I'd never get a tarantula (mostly because I see myself being too scared to handle it, and I feel like I wouldn't able to give it the good life it deserves) but I've found myself really liking your tarantula vids lately, especially the feeding videos! Even if they're not my kind of pet (i'm more of a cat person heheh) it's really cool to learn about them!
Honestly this looks exactly like the situation I ended up in when taking in a spider. When she came to me for the 12 hours I had her. She had sand substrate, a light shining on her, and no place to burrow or web. I don’t know what kind she was. Like I said I had her 12 hours before I rehomed her because of the nightmares I had. But I found her a home with someone who knew what she was doing and got her into a much better enclosure and situation. Looking back in it after everything I’ve learned now, makes me really glad I didn’t keep her because I had absolutely no idea how to care for her.
We got our first 2, the ones we have now, from a family that moved long distance and didn't take them. I started this journey as an arachnaphobe and have since become much less scared of spiders. Its been 6 or so months and we are learning a lot from watching your videos.
Keep going! It took my husband 7 years to say yes! Got my first G.pulchripes sling last Thursday... he realized how cute it was so we went back to the shop on Saturday and got a second G.pulchripes and a T.pruriens!
The bug boxes are supposed to be used as a "shaker" feeder. You punch the hole in the side, shake out desired crickets and then tape over the hole. There's food in the middle for the crickets as well. You aren't supposed to just leave it in the cage but it is a decent product for people who don't want to touch crickets.
Awww so pretty! The T is awesome! You got a cute doggo as well! I have a T in a ten gallon bc I got it from someone who didn’t want it... she also actually spends a lot of time out of her burrow as well
Yes it can be seen as wasted space but my tarantulas do roam, not trying to undermine you but I like to give my tarantulas the choice to roam should they want to. Love your videos btw, very informative and entertaining.
My T.Vagans is the same, it loves to come out at night and have a good old wander. Before it's first moult with me it used to stay out and walk around all the time and the only time it was in it's burrow was when I would disturb it.
I always wondered if the reason keepers put them in tiny enclosures, similar to office cubicles was because they have a billion others they need to lift and sort to feed etc. For a person who just has one, it's seems like even that 10 gallon is too small of a surface area to run around, I agree with the falling height tho. When I saw the new enclosure, there just isn't any room for the T to stand on dirt without stepping on some other element, I'm not a keeper so maybe I just don't get it...
More space is always good, for anything. I have a Lp in a 60x40x40cm enclosure, and she uses pretty much the entire enclosure at night. I mean she would definitely do perfectly fine with half that space at her current size, but if I can pürovide that space and she can use it, why not? But you also have to consider peopel that are keeping hundreds of tarantulas don't have a whole ass aircraft hangar to store them, so obviously they have to reduce the size of enclosures to a reasonable size, which for a tarantula can be quite small without them having any issues with it.
@@_YellovvJacket_ The thing that I go by always is that would you like to be kept in a small cage day in day out with little room to move, I wouldn't and neither should a tarantula live that way. Many people say that tarantulas don't care and can't feel pain, emotions ect but tbh I believe that is nonsense.
Imo terrariums are nice to see for the environment itself also, not only for the animal in it, so even if it looks like wasted space for the tarantula, it's not for the human eye (when it's well done... like, I loved @the dark den Petko's waterfall tarantula enclosure. Feels like she was a kids and the parents didn’t really do the research for their kids pet. I dunno the writing on the terrarium is heartbreaking and I worry her owner wasn’t old enough to know better or even keep her.
My first T was a G rosea from a pet store who I assume was wild caught (I only buy captive bred now) and she is the chillest sweetest spider ever. She never kicks hairs or threat postures. Its safe to assume this spider was wild caught too. I wonder if other people have similar experiences with wild caught? Are they normally chill?
That drawing on the terra is kinda sad. Seems like someone was happy to have her at one point... glad that she's back in a caring environment :-)

Fortunately she seemed pretty healthy and well-fed. Hope her previous owner gets to see that she's being well cared for
