Thank you for mentioning "The Wire" it is probably one of if not the best tv productions of all time. Why have so few watched the wire ! So many people on tv now started their career on that show. What a classic!🎉
Our ex family scrap metal business started trading after the 1st world war Barbers of Salford and we sold up in 1992 , I was a 5th generation and I closed the gates for the last time then . I recall my grandfather telling me about the value of copper being higher than coins and being weighed in but I am sure it was pre 1-2p , my dad n granddad are no longer here sadly to ask again . I miss My scrap days but they were good to us .
1p and 2p coins minted between 1971 and September 1992 are 97% copper, 2.5% zinc and 0.5% tin. I've been collecting them for years waiting for them to go out of circulation. Currently I have 1190 kg (£3400). Come on Bank of England, get rid of 1's and 2's.
@@havingalook. the '83 two pence with "new pence" stamped on it was part of a collectors set of UK decimal coins. They will only be in circulation if someone broke up a set. I've approximately 125,000 two pence coins, I aren't going to go through them all on the off chance. hahaha
@@dempsey1357 you can't scrap coins of the realm, that's why I'm waiting for the bank of England to take them out of circulation. The 1983 coin is a collectors item.
Hi guys. Quite a Few years back, you could buy maybe like a pack of 10 copper pipes from DIY / Plumbers merchants do like you did, bend it up a bit & then weigh it in scrap & you’d make more money doing that, same used to be for anything brass & lead. Goes to show how much things have changed in the pound sterling & weights of things & or the quality, or lack of quality of things over time.
I actually think it’s mental that there is a product that is still worth half its original purchase value as scrap. Is like a scrap car being worth over 10k as scrap
Any 1p made after September 1992 is copper plated steel, and prior to that was 97 % copper, even 10ps and 5ps after 2010 are now dipped steel, melting down coins carries a fine of 400quid and/or up to 2years in prison Lovin the content lads 👍 Tony
It's still a long wait and a massive stress, constantly having vans reversing at you who try to jump the queue and vans and skip lorries driving out towards you, why they don't have two lanes for tat and none ferrous baffles me
Has the Francis Key Bridge Disaster in America, had any affect on the uk steel prices, with all the tons of steel that gotta be weighed in from the bridge ??
😂😂😂 queue still down the road wasting time and money while Johnny romanian strips his washing machine on the yard when he was obviously too busy to do it the day before

An 83 two pence with "new pence" on it is worth £800 on its own
