Total mishap with the FC660M right shift. It is the same as the left shift, but is NOT 2u. Rather it is 2.25u. My bad 😭 (Thanks for @theSolarisDragon for pointing it out) ALSO, the external spring for the FC660 PT is in fact for the return (Thanks to @BoyBolastog)
Apparently in Korea, the PT version is in testing right now and they have issues with pretty bad ghosting issues. Also, Leopold has put out a statement within the Korean community that the PT version really isn't a foam and foil switch (at least they claim that it isn't).
Leopold boards with white/beige and grey are just really beautiful in my opinion - subdued and really grounded. I would think these companies share a lot of their work together - Leopold, Varmilo, Archiss, and maybe also Vortex - they are releasing wireless boards around the same time, with the same setups. For example the Tab from Vortex seems to have a very similar wireless system as these Leopolds from what I can see so far.
Well, while it may come to a surprise when there are some Japanese Made capacitive switches other than Topre exist, there are actually quite a few of them right here in Tokyo. They're definitely made in Japan and definitely not Topre either. The boards come in domestic Japanese brand like Sanwa Denshi or some sort, and they feel just like 35g Topre with a spring. I can't really find out who is the manufacturer. And Leopold strictly exist only as Archiss in Japan, the only board with Leopold branding in Tokyo is the FC930c
If that FC660PT really is foam and foil, it's strange they say its tactile, because its most likely not tactile at all. Those external coil springs mounted just under the keycaps are traditionally indicative of linear foam and foil switches. Tactile foam and foil switches would've hand individual rubber domes with a hole in the middle (AKA buckling rubber sleeves) slipped in that position instead of coil springs. Those external springs or domes are not just there for additional return force, they actually provide the entire return force for those types of switches. Foam and foil switches have no spring inside the switch itself, and the diagram shows as much. That part where you could press on the stem by itself is likely just the foam pad inside pushing the switch back up lightly, but the stem most definitely travels up much higher than that once it's suspended by the external spring and keycap.
Thanks for all the info! I'm only running from memory, but yeh, it felt close to linear. Unfortunately I don't know much about this at all, so I was reading up on it, and someone said that they were F&F. It makes sense that the foam would push it up slightly. With closer observation of the diagram, I can understand what you're talking about. I'm actually quite disappointed that I have spat out some pretty dodgy information :(
@@TaeKeyboards I wouldn't blame you at all. Leopold labeling it tactile is a misnomer, likely referring more to tactility as being how it feels in general, rather than tactility in terms of having a tactile feedback in the travel. Also, foam and foil is a pretty old type of switch that I never even expected to see on modern keyboards, largely because they have a bad rap in the vintage keyboard community for how mushy the foam makes them feel. They were basically the rubber domes before actual rubber domes became the norm. The only advantage of foam and foil is that they're capacitive, like you pointed out. Means they have inherent n-key rollover and have the potential reliability of a contactless switch. But it shoots itself in the foot with regard to the latter because the foam pads under each switch degrade over time. It's interesting if Leopold can implement foam and foil to at least feel better than the predominantly budget offerings that came out of the 80's and 90's. Maybe they're using a foam that doesn't dry out and disintegrate, or something. And I must say, it's pretty cool that you're covering this much about keyboards at Computex. Most of the media coverage w/ keyboards went to SteelSeries's OmniPoint switches, so I really appreciate how you go to each keyboard brand to cover their stuff like this.
@@huunhanle3809 I have a HHKB, I enjoy the topre keys. But I miss the arrow keys, and I don’t like the options, Realforce is too ugly, and Leopold has a so much better looks than Filco, Archiss or any other keyboard I have seem so far. They should at least sell in Amazon Japan.
@@Pedro76mchlkg ruclips.net/video/f2MHE-rQPRA/видео.html. Apparently they are only sell them very limit right now ( not much details about mass production for worldwide, I have heard that they only sell them in Korean for now ).
The 660 doesn’t have a cable channel (at least my 660m doesn’t). The USB cable just plugs straight into the side on the back. If you look at the pics here (www.techpowerup.com/256265/walkthrough-of-the-leopold-booth-at-computex-2019#g256265-12) you can see the bottom of the 750R has the cable routing channel and cavity.
The Leopold's have nicer build quality in my opinion. But really it's all about form factor and layout that you want. Plus the Tab90 has DSA keycaps if you're into that.
lol, Foam and Foil? First we have both Hall effect come back, then the chinese ultra cheapo boards started to mass produce mush free snappy membrane domes like the BTCs of old, and now this? We are in the thick of a new Keyboard renaissance of sorts, even if I doubt foam and foil returining, specially for Leopold's ransom; will get much fan appeal like the prior two.
@@kananchan7995 they are really really really crap and cheap in build quality, you find them on ebay for like $20.. but they are surprisingly pleasant to type on and use discreet glued domes. prado.my/webshaper/pcm/gallery/lg/5fe9c93ca7fea6d600bc1d08a19eb3721493095994-lg.jpg I find this one everywhere online for cheap tat. Bought one for a kid's first keyboard as he wanted something backlit edit: I remember those membranes we all typed on as kids, and yeah, this feels cheap, but it doesn't have that mush factor that even that Ornata thing has to it. Aren't the shift keys on the 660 2.25u? Unlike the new Ducky 65% that has a 2u right shift.
