I visited 84 Hashi with my brothers and team members back in September this year. We took a trip to Japan for Tokyo Game Show as we would be exhibiting there. My brother found out about 84Hashi online so it was a definite stop on our trip, and it easily became the highlight of our time in Japan. Chokan, Maki, Hiroko, and Robert were all very warm and kind. If you're a fan of Nintendo as we are, or just like games in general, 84 Hashi and their team are super eager to share your enthusiasm.
I remember tearing up as we walked the space of the cafe and looked at the walls lined with all this insanely special memorabilia. I agree with you Joey, the original Mario theme score is pretty incredible. Our composer for our studio was freaking out when he saw it. Chokan was very open and eager to recount his time at Nintendo. I remember him telling us a story of his hardships when he left Nintendo, and how he found the resolve to continue pushing forward. As an indie game developer with a small team trying our best to make it in the games industry, I was really touched and tearing up listening to this.
We visited 84 Hashi a few days before Tokyo Game Show, and during the actual show we even crossed paths with Chokan, Hiroko, Maki, and Robert who were kind enough to drop by our booth and take a peek at our game!
This place is such a gem and I'll definitely be coming back on future trips!

No Joke, I was known as the 'Nintendo Girl' when I worked at Gamestop. I grew up with Nintendo and it was loved in our household (especially since I had siblings). My first games were Ice Climbers and Super Dodgeball (the latter which I just basically had my butt handed to me). It's probably because my siblings that, while I love LoZ, some of my fondest memories are from Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Pokemon

Hey Joey. Being the younger blood I am, probably my favourite Nintendo game of all time would be Super Mario Galaxy. It has left an impression in my life that I haven't been able to shake off. That game single handedly introduced me to complex soundtracks, 3D world mechanics and made me realise videogames weren't just playthings, but a medium with huge artistic value.
Really glad you wanted to share with us this cool experience

I absolutely agree with you and the fact that the Mario Galaxy games still look gorgeous to this day Is the proof that games don't need insane Shaders and all that other stuff to look good! And besides the look of the games the soundtrack Is still goated and loved all over the world!

I’m a pretty big Nintendo fan I think, my favorites are probably:
    1. Mario 64 DS (grew up with that one, but I also love Odyssey)
    2. LoZ Breath of the Wild (TOTK was also great, but the first experience of BOTW is unmatched, might be my favorite game of all time)
    3. Pokemon Crystal (I actually played Soul Silver not Crystal growing up, and I think BW2 are the best in the series in terms of mechanics/qol/challenges, however, the aesthetic (soundtrack, spritework, lore) of Pokemon Crystal is perfection)
As a pretty huge pokemon fan there are also some “spinoff” titles that I can also say are amazing: Pokemon XD, Pokemon TCG GB2 (japanese only but has fan translation), and Pokemon Blue Rescue Team (Explorers might be better but I grew up with blue rescue team)

You have to be one of the RARE people I've heard that's actually played Crystal.
That was the very first JRPG and only Pokemon game I've ever touched. I played my cousin's copy of the game but, I never beat it due to having been used to turn-based JRPGs. But, I enjoyed the music and looking at that sparkly teal-blue carriage.

oh yeah, my favorite Nintendo games: Majora's Mask, Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal, Paper Mario 64, and Star Fox Adventure. Y2K era Nintendo & SEGA shaped my hobbies big time and it always takes me back to being 7-10 years old whenever revisiting those games

I'm almost 60 years old and still play regularly on one of my handheld devices (which is my favorite way to play). I love many of their games, but my all time favorite is the Dragon Quest Monster series - I love breeding (or synchronizing) the monsters, and I spend hours creating elaborate spreadsheets of breeding patterns. I went here two weeks ago on my trip to Tokyo. It was such an awesome experience getting to see all the memorabilia, including art by Atsuko Nishida, the creator of Pikachu, the Eeveelutions and soooo many others. I showed Toru Hashimoto/Chokan my Umbreon tattoo and he loved it. There was also an appearance by a game producer named Robert who has worked with Game Freak and I think he also mentioned HAL Laboratory. It was just a lot of fun getting to nerd out over the games I've loved since I was a little kid. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tokyo.

Since you asked: I've been a Nintendo fanboy since the game and watch I got as a gift in the late 80s. I've enjoyed many games in my life but nothing reaches the height as Nintendo. Pokemon has always been my favorite franchise (even the "bad" ones that weren't as popular like Let's Go), and every new Zelda game is an immediate purchase. And Splatoon is the only FPS I've played for more than a few hours outside of the old Pc games like Doom and Quake. Nintendo is and always will be king of gaming. In my family, Nintendo is synonymous with gaming. Love your videos, Joey. Very jealous of your VIP access. Next time you're in the NY area, hmu lol

figured i'd comment my nintendo storytime here since Joey said we can gush about nintendo in the comments.
from 2013-2020 i was extremely lonely i was the weird autistic teenager no one wanted to be friends with. from 2018ish to 2020 is when I had absloutely zero friends and it was around that time I started getting back into anime and otaku related things. I'd get really excited and into a new series but have no one to talk to or tell anyone about it. although despite my years of loneliness, i wasn't completely on my own. i had my villagers in animal crossing. every day, I'd come home from school after no one wanted to hang out or talk to me, and i still always had my villagers. i remember i had one specific villager, cranston, who I'd talk to the most. in animal crossing as some of you may know the villagers can ask to come over to your house and visit. so when cranston asked, i hit yes, and when he entered my house, he said "honey im home!" and i just started balling because i felt so pathetic feeling so loved by an npc in a video game. the following year of 2020 is when new horizons came out, and sure, i did really enjoy it. It just didn't hit the same as new leaf, in my opinion. a few months later, an old classmate messaged me and told me we should start talking online more. i never really was interested in online friends or talking online with people, but hey, i gave it a shot. and in an online chat room, i met one of my current best friends. i had someone who cared about the series i enjoyed and who i can go tell all of my interests to. i realized that at this time, while i still enjoy animal crossing, i didn't need to depend on it anymore. I finally, after so long, had people now to talk to. next summer will be 3 and a half years of knowing each other, and im planning on heading to her country to meet her face to face, and I'm so incredibly excited.
i also learned that Katsuya Eguchi and Hisashi Nogami (creators of animal crossing) both suffered from loneliness like me, and that was one of their biggest inspirations for creating animal crossing. it made me feel so happy that someone i looked up to went through the same struggles as i did.
    thankyou animal crossing 🍃

I guess for me, this would be like going to a bar and grill ran by one of the founding members of Wube Software that has concept art of assemblers, a 3d model of an inserter, and stuff like that, or, or ran by Simon Foster with all the drawings he made of RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 and 2.

For me, I grew up with a Wii and a DS, so Nintendo holds a special place in my heart.
The early memories I have of playing around with Pictochat with my cousin and friends, or playing Mario Kart Wii with my other cousins were great. I remember being proud of when i finally got 1st in a cup in Mario Kart Wii the night after I set up my first Wii. And I remember all the fun moments of playing various different Wii games with family back then.
And later, when I finally got a 3DS to play Pokemon Omega Ruby on, that was when I first truly got into gaming. I had well over 300 hours in that first save alone and I remember all the moments I shared with others and spent alone just wandering around. Something that few games come close to.
And I still enjoy playing the older games regularly alongside games on the Switch as well. I enjoy playing Mario Kart Wii whenever I get the chance, and I enjoy occasionally going back to the 3DS pokemon games to do new playthroughs and shiny hunt occasionally. I enjoy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as well, having hundreds of hours in it. (I do miss being able to play any Mario Kart on an even level with family though, the few times I've played with family, I always end up feeling like I'm playing a different race entirely).
Part of what keeps me coming back to Nintendo's games though is the care and passion put in by developers. Seeing stuff like this cafe shows how much many Nintendo employees like/liked working there, and it's evident in many of their games as well, both, old and new. This kind of thing is what made me enjoy coming back to my childhood games. The details and easter eggs, the polished mechanics, everything just shows how much care was put into everything.

As someone that also grew up with Nintendo and actively still plays their games, this sounds like a dream. And some of my favorite Nintendo games I'd say are Smash Ultimate, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Pokemon Sun, Three Houses, just to name a few

I'd give my right arm to go to that cafe! I'm a huge Nintendo fan. The original NES was what I grew up on and was my first console. My first game I completely finished was SMB 3...I'd finish all my homework, eat dinner and then play until bedtime lol...I kept my NES on the whole time...probably shouldn't have done that but eh. I've owned every Nintendo console (save for some of the handheld variants like the 2DS and the XL versions of it/the XL version of the 3DS) except the Virtual Boy. I plan on owning it though if I can ever find one for cheap enough. I also STILL own all the consoles as well...I'm a collector as well as gamer!
My favorite console has to be the N64. Even though I grew up on the NES...I have the best memories of the N64...that era specifically was like peak childhood for me. I know not a ton of people love the N64 for various reasons (bad controller/weak library of games) but it's just such a good console. Plus it had the most totally rad console variations lol...see through N64s are so cool. I own Jungle Green, Smoke (clear black), the OG solid black, and the Pikachu dark blue variants. I'm trying to get all the console variations (even the Japanese exclusive ones). Same for the controllers. I don't do this with all my consoles...because it would cost too much. But since the N64 is my favorite...I want to own ALL the consoles lol. I also own two of the consoles complete in their original boxes (only the OG colors but one of them came with an extra Atomic Purple controller so it's a box variation).
Favorite series...well I mean obviously Mario, Pokemon (OG Blue/Red/Yellow) and Zelda...but my favorite Nintendo series of all time? Kirby. I am such a HUGE Kirby fan OMG lol. I actually just got four of the last couple of games I'm missing from the Kirby series...I'm trying to collect every game in the series and I do mean EVERY game...save for like downloadable only ones...because I don't count those as true "games" because they're not physical. I love me some physical media. But yeah, I only have five games left to get. They're some of the older ones like for the Gameboy. Those ones are harder to find because of age and price. I try to collect everything complete in box (meaning game, manual, box/case and any extras it came with), but with older games it's much harder. So I'll probably just grab the game and maybe find the boxes/manuals later on when I have more cash.
As you can tell I'm really into video games and Nintendo lol...did I gush enough?

I am intrigued for all the 84s around the memorabilia you showed here, do you happen to know what does that stand for?? As a part of my nickname the 84 is my favorite number.
So great you got to be there and a member now. Thanks for showing it. Love all that.

The owner of 84 Hashi, is named Hashimoto Toru and some of the framed pictures were signed "84さんへ" or "To Mr.84", so I assume it's a nickname along with Café name (Ha being 8 and Shi being 4).
      Just my personal speculation :)

This is definetly one of those once in a lifetime kind of things. Being a member of an exclusive Nintendo cafe run by a former employee is just a HUGE flex. I can only imagine what sort of crazy cool memorabilia could be in that place.
    EDIT: Favorite Nintendo games, GO!
I LOVE Pokemon. I know the recent games have only gotten more and more controversial with fans, but I just love the series and always have a fun time with it. My personal favorite might have to be X and Y since I started with X a decade ago. Then of course there's the Splatoon series. While I haven't played in like, a year, the world, characters, story, music, and art all keep me intrigued. Basically, everything except the actual game, lmao. ARMS was super fun and had some great potential, but unfortunately I don't think we'll be seeing anything else from that world. Earthbound/MOTHER 2 is obviously a classic and one of the best JRPGs ever.

I got my second game console in Christmas 1982, and it was the Coleco Vision.
Had the Donkey Kong game which I played for thousands of hours.
This is the game where Mario was born.
I still have the console and all the games.

I would 100% be in tears if I ever got to go. I was a Nintendo kid through and through. Even now it’s really all I play. My entire family has been playing since the NES. But, my favorite childhood game was Pokemon snap. I know it’s not got too much of a following but I’d spend hours playing the original game. That and Yoshi’s island.
