Pin badges are inexpensive, alternative way for fans to show love for things they like, especially for fans who are in different countries who can't afford anything beyond certain amount of money when converted into their currency (like figures, apparels, cd album, manga, etc). And there are alot of people who makes itabag out of it and hey, even Aki does! (referencing to the video of her making Kingdom Hearts itabag: "this video is simple and clean") I also saw alot of Japanese fans who bought HUNDREDS of pin badges to make an oshi shrine out of it. If you're not personally interested in pin badges, there's certainly people who collects it hence why Japan and artists in convention artist alley still keep making it.
Don't discount the washi tape. There's some super creative people who use it for so many different things. Planner people use it as decoration on their planner pages. I use it a lot for covering the edges of my diamond paintings. It's a thing. I've also seen a lot of Disney gatcha where the capsule turns into the dress of the princess or something. It's fun to see a gatcha gatcha! Love to see more things like this!
The 'original' Miffy was by Dick Bruna and is called Nijntje (good luck pronouncing that :) ) Her story is actually quite interesting as he tried to create his characters as simple as possible without loosing their essentials. I think he succeeded ;)
Yes, just to make it more comprehensible, Nijntje is derived from konijn(tje) konijn is rabbit in dutch and konijntje is little rabbit (adding 'tje or je' after a word is for many words in Dutch the diminutive form) So her name 'Nijntje' is really just little rabbit (no idea where the name 'Miffy' comes from though)
Good luck to him indeed, cuz I saw in a journey across when they went to the Dutch theme park; Joey called the province Overijssel where I'm from "Overjizzle" so he's definitely going to struggle with this one!😂🥲
i remember when it was called miffy and friends back here in the states when i was a child i loved miffy i thought it was made here lol guess i learned something new from my childhood.
We used to call it nijntje, lief klein konijntje. (so i guess nijntje, sweet little rabbit in english). I think we did that because of the opening song in dutch, I used to watch it as a kid lol.
Miffy is indeed Dutch (from the Netherlands where I am from). Her original Dutch name is "Nijntje" which is probably derived from the Dutch word for bunny namely "koNIJN". If I remember correctly she was created by Dick Bruna many years ago. Dick Bruna (who lived from 1927 to 2017) came from the Dutch province Utrecht which lies in the center of the country. Utrecht has the capital city Utrecht in it (yeah, we Dutch were really creative when we named that XD), anyways in that city you can visit the Nijntje museum.
Its is originally a character from children story book series and is for kids from the age of 1 year old. Even to this day kids still grow up with it and it even has a few cartoon series. And also Nijntje was originally gender-less, because kids of the age of 1 do not have a concept of he or she.
For someone who collect pin badges of my fav char the part where u said "no one want it, stop making them" hurts bruh😭 Besides figure, keychains, phone charms, nuigurumis...pin badges are also a good merch variations btw. Because there's no fun in just collecting of your fave char with just figure on the shelf, it's a lovely addition to the background wall!!!
The Jigokuraku keychain wasn't Sagiri, it was Touma. Still, great series and cute keychain! And an interesting concept for a lucky bag to have another element of randomness inside it. I will say that around New Year's I did at one point think of lucky bags and what videos people would be putting out about them this year, so yeah, your point about people really associating Japan and lucky bags is very true
It's always so exciting opening these lucky bags and seeing what's inside. The concept of a gacha within a gacha is really fun and unique. Even if some of the items weren't as impressive, the anticipation and surprise definitely adds to the fun of it.
I was actually in Japan a few days ago and saw that exact fukubukuro in akiba, was tempted to buy it but decided it wasnt worth it, thanks for letting me know that my decision was a good one LOL
From what I can tell most companies sell small goodies like pins and straps as the anime is airing and uses this as a measurement to see how much they can actually earn if they were to sell bigger products like figures and stands.
Pin badges are a relatively cheap and easy way for artists to make merch. People also make ita bags with them, because they're definitely cheaper than say, enamel pins.
I run a custom merch shop where I also sell pin badges. I get a crazy amount of anime requests, so there's definitely a market for them. A lot seem to just attach it to their normal clothes or backpack or whatever. Not something I'm personally into either but they're cool for what they are. I like gatcha and unboxing, so more vids of that would be fun to watch.
I buy badges XD Mostly from artist alleys but still... They generally stay on my bags better than enamel pins (Except for ones with locking backs of course)
I go to a bar in osaka every friday. The decoration of that bar its all about things the owner got from those lucky bags. So there you go, now you have a reason to buy them 😂

I envy your gachapons! That being said, you are the first of my followed tubers to post a lucky beg video! Yay! I liked the One Piece one and the washi tape. Thanks for sharing!! Happy new year to you!
I actually prefer keychains and small pin badges because they're usually small enough that I can put them up at my desk at work. Edit: my only complaint with pin badges is that a lot of them have the characters name/show on them when I'd much rather prefer they just have the character on them and that's it.
Hey, some of us still love pin badges! I have so many on my lanyards and bags, and displayed on my car’s sun visor. I just love how creative they can get, and it’s fun to get a feel for someone’s personality and interests based on what pins they’re rocking. It’s also a nice, inexpensive alternative to figure pins, which can get pricey, and they’re not that hard to make yourself if you want something niche or super-specific! Don’t hate on something inoffensive to the point of demanding its production cease just because it isn’t fancy and you yourself don’t like it. Not all of us are as financially successful as you are.
My son and I just bought a couple of astronaut cat gachapon at Haneda airport and after quickly recycling the capsules we realised we needed them for the helmets of the spacesuit the cats were wearing 🤦♀️ We Australians just don't grow up with this level of creativity!
Uh idk about joey but i buy pin badges to put in scrapbooks of sorts. Its typically cheap merchendize that is far longer lasting than a sticker while having a bit more heft to them, while also letting me if i feel like it to remove them from my book and put them on a jacket or a bag, unlike stickers.
The last one with Franky was so recognizable! It on a new previous episodes of wano too. :> you got a rare one, and that genuinely cool they used the capsule!
I used to love pin badges when I was younger because they were cheap, you can get them of pretty much anything and it was very easy for creators to make/sell their own. Now I don't collect them anymore and gravitate towards acrylic pins and even those I'm calming down on because I have so many.
Mostly pinbadges are used in Itabags for example I have a trigun itabag which mostly consists of Vash, Nicohlas and Meryl pin badges and keychains, that one looked low quality but in general they are usually unique shapes and sizes that take up the majority of space in a itabag and are easy to get hold of and depending on size cheap as well
figure are expensive anime merch so pin badge is actually a good alternatives. I personally bought pin badges to pin it to my bag, my itabag and my lanyards and i feel like they are more useful than figure anyway
Joey! Ojamajo Doremi is one most influential magical anime to come out in the last 30 years! It handles mature topics and character growth better then most modern anime. Also I’m 100% sure some of your favorite anime have had staff that worked on doremi on it!

Yeah I was yelling "it's a Washi tape!!!" Not some masking tape 😂 and I thought Washi tape came from Japan too so it is in their culture right?
I was most excited about the Washi-masking tape, too.
there was emotional damage when he discarded the washi tape 😭
Washi tape! Not cheap over here.
The mini shelf was cute.
I didn't expect my fellow diamond painters in Joey's comment section 😂
