You did a great job of explaining this :) Thank you.
That's pretty cool… Time to make a pub crawl guide
Good use case!
Thank you 🙏🏾
@macmost is there a way to turn a guide into a road trip with multiple stops as those locations within the guide?
You could use it that way, generating directions for the next location. But I don't think it would make sense to have directions turned on throughout a long trip like that.
Good video as usual Garry
Hey Gary, do you know how Publishers like Culture trip and TimeOut get featured? If I want my Brand to become a featured publisher for guides, what or how do I go about doing that?
You'd have to contact Apple and ask them. I have no idea.
Fantastic video ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Thank you
As much as I would like to stay within apple ecosystem, Apple Maps doesn’t allow one to set multiple stops or waypoints. There is a way to add one pit stop, but limited to categories like gas, dinner. Google maps allows one to add multiple stops. Hopefully this capability is on apple’s to do list.
You can’t even do something as simple as creating and labeling a spot so as to be able to orient yourself and not get lost. Super confusing.
can you have directions in the guide to all the locations? trying to plan Christmas light tour.
was trying to find the the way to save location to 'Guide' on my Catalina macOS. Would be good to let the viewer knows in the vid or description that it only works on IOS 14 or MacOS BigSur onwards
hello. Could you please say how we unpin? to deleted the pin? thanks 😊
Click the pin. The info window will appear next to it. Scroll down to the bottom of that window and there is a Remove button.
How many guides can you create and how many optimizations for route distance can you do. I want to replace Road Warrior with Apple Maps and drive a route of locations that has the most optimal distance please 🙏🏻 reply back to this so I see the response
I don't know a limit on guides. There's not too much you can do on optimization except try things. That's what you should do -- try it and see.
I love the guide function but even in iOS 17 I can't make a route from my guide - I have to find each location all over again to make a route.
Yeah, it’s trash. Basically worthless and confusing as fuck.
Is there a way I can give someone edit access to my guide or would they be able to copy it somehow
You can Control+click on a guide on a Mac and Share it to someone else. But you can't collaborate.
is there a delivery route planner or a way to do simmilar things?😊 awesome content as always🔥❤️🔥
Delivery route planner? I've only ever seen that in pro apps for delivery drivers and such.
Gary, thanks for sharing. Apple Maps or Google maps? When I was at Curacao Apple Maps did not show routes so I used the offline feature of Google maps.
This is for Apple Maps.
I know, just wanted to know which is the best.
very good! thank you g!
My guides with hundreds of destinations deleted , is there any way I can recover it ?
I don't know of any, sorry.
How do I follow a guide while driving?
You would use directions for driving, not guides. Guides is for planning.
Can I remove them completely?
Guides? Sure. Control+click on the guide and select Delete.
I am on MacOS Catalina and I don't see any Guides in my version of Apple Maps. I am only a $2 Patreon subscriber, but I would appreciate more info on my "missing" Guides?
This is new in Big Sur.
I'm actually kind of bummed. Not by the video, as always you explain things superbly, but by the lack of functionality with Guides. On Google Maps, I have created lengthy driving routes (almost coast to coast), some push pin maps for various things (like archaeology sites), and maps where you can add colored lines and other shapes (which I use to highlight various traffic corridors based on how busy they are). And each one of these can be exported as .kml files.
Unfortunately Google Maps is lightyears ahead of Apple Maps. So I'll use Apple Maps when I can, but adding data in Guides is a shadow of that functionality (even though it's designed for something else, but it's the only thing that comes close), so I'll have to use that app on my iPhone when needed.
This is a major downfall. Why do I need to add each place all over again to create a route with multiple stops? Why can't I use my guide to do that.
Hello , how can I recover all my guide because I lost all please help me
If you deleted them, not sure you can recover them.
just tried with my ipad.. no guides.. it's an ipad air 1
You need iOS/iPadOS 14, which won't run on the original iPad Air. Check out this link for a list of compatible devices with iOS/iPadOS 14: support.apple.com/en-us/HT211348
how to use apple maps on computer?
What do you mean exactly? What are you trying to do?
I find Apple Maps difficult to plan cross country drives. Driving a 22 foot rental truck is very different from a regular size vehicle. Factors like bridge height clearance & steep grades of mountainous areas are big factors. While most people will assume this is a commercial business, it is not. Pick-up trucks & cars pulling trailers ( RV’s) are affected by this. Apple Maps seems to be designed for vacation planning & on-line sharing. There are plenty of reasons for people to plan a road trip. I feel Apple Maps doesn’t address these factors.
Does Google Maps do this? How do you end up doing it?
how do you delete a guide
Control+click and select Delete.
I am addicted to you now. IG @josytarut
I needed you in my life, hahaha.
Thank you so much
Apple Maps remains one of Apples clunkiest user unfriendly apps. There is simply no way to divorce myself from Google Maps and so there is no reason to do double work putting things in Apple Maps. Come on Apple.
Maps is infuriating and counter-intuitive. It’s almost as if Apple has done this intentionally and anger everyone. There’s really no other explanation.
