This video didn't really talk much about orchestrating for Viola - more about the articulations. I would love if these videos included orchestration examples showing how the viola supports and enhances different compositions. Examples of when it is in unison with the violins, when it plays a lower octave, when it supports the cellos, when it takes a harmony, etc.
it would be nice but this series in particular doesn't usually discuss orchestration applications but just the capabilities and extended techniques of each instrument. Maybe they will do an orchestration series one day
Chief Autopilot yeah I really hope you they do. I've been watching a lot of videos lately trying to get better at orchestration. I've come to really enjoy writing for the viola and how I can move its role back and forth between supporting the violins or cellos and reinforcing different lines by playing unison or octaves off of the other sections. I also like putting the putting the cello and violins in wide octaves on the melody and having the viola take the harmony or using the viola to double up a spiccatto line with the cellos
I love these videos...wish they were in some kind of logical order. Strings: top to bottom, then brass: same and so on. It's Oboe one week , Viola the next, then Tuba..etc. I love them...but wish for continuity, would be in some order.
"After the midi definition used in our sample instruments" this is really classic :D
The most underrated instrument.

Great informations about technic and dinamic..hope to see more like those videos 🥰
Awesome. I love this series. Thank you!
Hey she didn’t play up to A6! For range demo!
The viola "about an octave lower than violins"?
Jay-Alan Miller Except when it's a fifth lower
@@jacobsmith1877 Tell that to David Newman
Jay-Alan Miller when he said that I did a double take and rewound the video.
