The thee-ending gimmick doomed the movie at the theatre, and it was forgotten pretty quickly. People ended up finding it through VHS rentals, and it developed a cult following. It’s one of those movies kids can enjoy as slapstick and farce and again as adults for its irony and double entendres.
There wasn't an "original ending." When it played in theaters, different nights showed different endings, so you had to go back to see it again to see the other endings. Fun fact.
But here's what really happened: Paramount thought it would be a good marketing idea to release three versions (A, B & C) of Clue in different theaters. In newspaper ads theaters let you know what version you were getting. That way, repeat viewers wouldn't have to take a chance on seeing the same version twice. Four endings were filmed but only three were released theatrically. (Wadsworth, alone, is the killer in the 4th ending.) No ending was any more legitimate then the another ones. The "Here's what could have happened" title cards were added for home video and cable. So there's no "Here's what really happened" -- all endings are considered credible. Paramount's gamble did not pay off and no one went back to see other endings, if they went to see it all. Huge bomb, but lots of kids (Like me --I was eleven when it came out.) connected with its slapstick elements and ended up watching it over and over on cable. We made it the cult favorite it is today. (You're welcome 😁) I loved it so much that first time that I talked my parents into taking me to see a different ending before it left theaters. I'm the only person I know who saw two endings on its theatrical run. There's a paperback novelization of clue. And, as weird as it sounds now, there's was a big glossy children's adaptation of it(!). Both include the fourth ending. The children's book has photos from that ending. Crazy, right?
The singing telegram is played by Jane Wiedlin from the band The Go-Go's aside from this she had a few small roles but is best known for this and playing Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
This is a play on Agatha Christie's "And There Were None." I heard a rumor that there was a fourth ending that was never shown to anyone because it was too dark for audiences. Curry's character is the murderer and he poisons them all and buries them in the basement. Then he leaves, but the last scene is him in the car and over hid shoulder the dogs pop up in the back seat growling at him.
It was used in two books based on the movie. I remember there were some photos used in a kids picture book that I borrowed from a girl in middleschool. It was also used in the full novelization.
Great reactions Jordan glad you liked it. I love this movie, this is the movie I put on whenever I'm sick and despite the numerous times I watched it it still makes me laugh.
fun facts 1.carrie fisher was casted as miss scarlet but went into rehab 2.mr bean was considered for tim curry's role 3.the house burnt down and is now being rebuilt
Thank you lol, yeah it seems i ended the movie too early didnt realize that it would have continued into a couple of other endings ... that is my apology. might make another video
The actor playing Mr. Boddy is Lee Ving (what a boss name!). I only remember him from the film "Dudes," but I'm certain there have been several others I don't remember.
This Movie has such a great cast, everyone is on point, and plays their parts so well. My favourites are: Mrs Peacock (she was the cat lady in Jeepers Creepers), The Maid (she was also in Police Academy), and of course Tim Curry, he is always Awesome, even in his brief parts in Home Alone 2 - Lost In New York. Seen this Movie so many times, never gets old. 😃
This movie is just brilliant silly fun! Tim Curry steals the show, as always, but the ensemble cast are fantastic as well. Mr. Green falling through that table gets me EVERY single time LMAO! And Mrs. White is one of my favourite characters in this film "Flames....FLAMES...." :D Really enjoyed your reaction Jordan and how invested you got in the "whodunnit". The house in the movie looks epic as well :)
I'm a player of the game too (and also a Professor Plum stan) so this may have been one of the first non-kids movies I watched. The adult stuff went over my head but I still enjoyed it even then.
And actually, there was a FOURTH ending, which only survived with a few pictures in a kids a book, and told in the novelization of the movie. I don't think they really filmed much of, but I wish they had. I remember when I read it in the kids picture book, I liked it.
I see people reacting to this movie, trying to figure out who the killer is as it goes along but it's really not a movie that wants you to spend your time figuring it out. It's meant to be a fun ride where you watch it, you have a good time and wait for it to explain itself. Still, there's nothing wrong with watching it this way, as long as you are indeed having fun.
Thank you for the comment Laura, yeah I ended the movie a tad early, not realizing that the endings would play back to back. So a part 2 reaction might be coming soon!!.
Fucking love this movie man! Its a cult classic, i must have seen it 100+ times no joke lol i can pretty much quote the entire film, im glad you watched it!
This is the best cast movie of all time. Plus the best directed in that the actors rehearsed like a stage play not a movie and each of the endings make sense given who is seen in which scene.
This ending was the one that made the most sense to me and I've seen the movie about a 100 times. There are 2 other endings though you should check them out.
In keeping with the nature of the board game, the theatrical release included three possible endings, with different theaters receiving one of the three endings. In the film's home video release, all three endings were included.
Thank you for the comment, yes I kinda ended the movie too soon, not realizing that the endings played back to back after the first one ...so that was my fault, maybe i should make a part 2 reaction
All of the endings are pretty fantastic. I saw it on video back in the day so I thought it always had 3 endings. Only found out later how they did it in the theater. They are worth a watch.
I mean I said this was only part 1, indicating that I had a part 2 planned because I just assumed that was the ending of the movie and I had stopped it.
I know !!, seems like I ended the movie a tad too early not thinking they were gonna play one after the other, so perhaps I should make a part 2 reaction
NO no no no. "Original" has nothing on the complete ending. People would grill you if you only did Ending A of [popular Japanese video game here]. Watch the complete one.
The thing with Mr.Green being a homosexual that it looks like you missed, I think you forgot this is taking place in 1954 when homosexuality was illegal in the US and you could be fired for it.
Dude, you fucked up by assuming that was the orignial ending. You didn't "watch the original ending" you stopped watching the movie 20 mintues before it was actually over!
I am sorry I had to cut a lot of it due to copyright claim and the song that was playing towards the end was adding a bit much, unfortunately !. I do apologize for that
@@Pryimevil yes I did, I didnt realize though that they would automatically play after the end of the movie ... so that is my fault. I ended the movie a tad early. Might need to make a part 2 video.
Sorry but that was the worse reaction i have ever seen to this cult COMEDY classic, you drained out the entire soul of this film, i did not see any reaction to the jokes, you made it into a thriller/drama, the jokes that you did put in went right over your head and once again you did not appreciate that it was made in a different era when we who all saw it at the time , loved it and still watching it today love it for what it is
Film is subjective, I apologize that my reaction did not hit home with you !. That is okay Ian, I appreciate your comment regardless. I hope you have a great day today.

I think different theatres played different endings.
Good reaction, but definitely go back and watch the other endings. It's only about 5 more minutes and worth the watch.
Actually the 3rd ending is how it really happened. Sooooo you need to watch the other two endings to find out the real ending ;-)
"This movie's not taking itself seriously at all." Um, no, it's a comedy first, a murder mystery second, and a distant second at that, lol.
Right? It's quite literally a farce
“Maybe he wasn’t dead before”
“We should have made sure”
“How, by cutting his head off?”
" that wasn't called for"
"where is he?"

Clue has always been one of my favorite movies. I used to rewind and rewatch the four collide at the steps as a kid 😆
Same
One of my favorite comedies of all time. So well written and hilarious. All of the actors were known for their roles in comedies and brilliant!
The singing telegram is played by Jane Wiedlin from the band The Go-Go's aside from this she had a few small roles but is best known for this and playing Joan of Arc in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Oh yeah that was her in Bill & Ted!

@@FLQueerLiberal1982 They put the ending where Tim Curry murders everyone and then gets ripped apart by dogs in a kids book?
@@katpiercemusic yeah... I don't remember it reading quite that way. Just him escaping with a police car, then turning around to see the K9 dog.
Highly recommend checking out the other endings though. There’s even more funny jokes in them. What actually happens is that they’re all murderers.
Please don't delay the part 2!!! The 3rd ending is the unofficial official ending!
Don’t wrry I’ll get on it ASAP thank you for the support

I couldn’t find it.

Lee Ving who played Mr. Boddy was the leader of a punk band called Fear and he acted as well.

I totally expected Riff Raff and Magenta to answer that door.

The first ending was the most logical.
Agreed.
Great add. Curry should have won an Oscar for this. But how could you leave out your reaction to "flames flames" 🤣🤣
